I have the rab ascent 700. I have comfortably taken it down to -5 in the cairngorms however that was march and a very still night wind chill can make -5 feel like -15. If you are planning on doing a lot of winter camping I would get the 900 if you are mostly doing fringe/summer I would stick with the 700. I do also have a sleeping bag liner which adds quite a bit of warmth and use a hot water bottle (sigg/nalgene bottle with hot water before bed). Other factors like tent size/inner material and pad and personal preferences will also factor in warmth. So just because I have used the bag at -5 doesn’t mean it will be warm enough for you. I would try to choose somewhere you can easily get back to car/somewhere warm in case things go wrong on your first trip and first time testing your gear. I often do this with new gear. You can camp around Loch Lomond at this time of year the restrictions only apply February -October and the restrictions are only certain sections (double check on the Loch Lomond and trossach national park page as I may be out of date)

If you want one bag for all year use the 900 isn’t it. Way too warm for anything but winter. Especially as you sleep warm already. So the 700 makes more sense, even if you pair it with a very light quilt or extra warm clothes in mid winter to be sure you’re warm enough. Only personal testing will really tell you how it feels so it makes sense to carry an extra layer on your first trip with it.

A little above your budget, I've been fine in my Rab Ascent 900 everywhere in Northern England and Sctoland, I've had some pretty low temperatures, -10 I think was the lowest. You need a good sleeping mat to keep warm though.

I saw these and think they are the replacement for the existing ascent range. A few disappointing things though which I found from the Rab website when comparing the previous models to these: 1. The previous Ascent range were made in the UK, these are now made in China 2. The overall percentage of recycled material used in these newer ones is less than the older models https://preview.redd.it/g5gdlmtjppkg1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=373502feb34b23a4049c739f27097a2f2fc7c61e

I'm 6'3" and 115kg. Have a look at RAB sleeping bags in long/wide. I have an Ascent in long/wide and its super roomy and plenty long.

Weight is always a priority for me because I camp with relatively “heavy” tents 🫠 I’m actually surprised I don’t see the Helium bags around more often, because they offer a lot more warmth to weight ratio than, say, the Rab Ascent series that’s very popular. The Helium 600 is comparable to the Ascent 700 but weighs over 300g less, which is significant. Maybe ME isn’t considered as “cool” a brand as Rab? 🤔
