Rab - Women's Neutrino 600

From a Swedish perspective: If you only can have one bag, I would go for -10 Comf. Temp. in down (like a Rab Neutrino 600). But honestly, that is going to be too warm in summer and too cold in proper winter - depending on what your temperature limits are where you head out. In the end, it will be better to get two bags, one for winter and one for summer. I have one for minus 18 for winter and minus 2 for summer (lots of nights on the fjäll where, as you know, it can be around zero even during summer). I am considering getting a cheap one that is rated like +5 to +10 for real summer in the forest or archipelago. I have the Rab Neutrino 800, 600 and 400 and I really like them. They are not ultralight but light enough. Can really recommend Rab.

April through October is my 400-time. In the end it really depends on what your personal comfort limits are and at what temperatures you would switch to the winter bag. I imagine the Norwegian coast is a bit warmer during winter than the Swedish coast, due to being more maritime? Washed it once because I didn't use a liner in the beginning, but otherwise used always a liner, always hung it out after a hike and stored it in the cotton bag. If you have the money, go for it! They seem to have added a Neutrino 500 to their range and that would be my choice today, between the 600 and the 400. Otherwise, they also have a 650-cuin product line (cheaper but heavier) which is probably just as good.

I suspect the price might sting but trust me with sleeping bags/quilts, if you want down, then quality filling is just expensive as a commodity. So decent down bags just don’t come cheap. Down is much warmer per gram and compresses smaller than any synthetic filling. If you want light, down saves you a chunk of weight. The trick is to buy the right thing for your long term needs and then look after it. My 3 season sleeping bag is a Rab Neutrino bag I’ve had for over 10 years now. I’ve slept in it over 100 times. I’ve always dried it out if it gets moist, never got it dirty or soaked, always compressed it the bare mininum in my pack (I don’t use a compression bag), dried it and aired out thoroughly at home and stored it in a loose sack in a wardrobe. It’s still as good as the day it was new and I could sell it for something like £150 on ebay. So if the budget is tight, buy a decent quilt in a little used condition if possible 2nd hand on ebay. But I’d urge you to buy a decent quilt that’ll really do the job.
