Unless you're really concerned with weight, I'd get something like the snugpak jungle bag for summer use. It's under a kilo, synthentic, water resistant and cheap enough that you don't need to worry about it. It also has a built in mozzie net and unzips into a square blanket. It's good down to about 10 degrees, but be very cautious below that. The one and only time I've had severe hypothermia, it was trying to push it past its limits. Save your money for the winter bag where the performance vs weight ratio is much more important.
Tall order for $200. I can do a budget oriented system that is modular with a down 20 degree quilt and 50 degree over quilt that should get you down to 10 degrees when paired together while also letting you use the 20 degree quilt in shoulder season or the 59 degree quilt in warm weather. It won’t have a bivy bag component however. It should weigh slightly under 3 lbs and would be much more compressible than your system (my assumption is that the system would roughly compress down to 12 liters or so). However, it would cost around $290. - HangTight Heatseeker 20 degree quilt with ground dweller add on - $147 26 ounces - Simply Light Apex 50 degree Summit Blanket - $140, probably around 18-20 ounces. You could reduce the cost by around $85 by buying snugpack jungle blanket ($54, 25 ounces) instead of the Simply Light Summit Blanket but it won’t be as functional without a cinch drawcord at the foot end or at the collar. It also won’t have foot snaps so it wouldn’t be as good of an over quilt or warm weather quilt, but it does get you closer to your $200 goal. It would also still be far lighter and more compressible.
its not ultralight but i like my snugpak jungle bag. it has a built in bug net if you're camping without a tent. if it dips under 50\* you will be cold
I have a snugpack bag. It's a good bag for the price and I believe accurately reflects the temp rating. Plus they come with a sinch pack which is nice.
Yes the sleepingbag we use in the army are very cheap and are pure shit, i'll send Carinthia an email they make bad products.. We use our equipment 24/7 and in all seasons. Its an misconception because people buy the whole "military spec" therm and get some cheep Ali express shit from the internet. The only down side to the military sleepingbags is the weight and the bulk, other then that iff you dont mind it the carinthia bags are brilliant. For me the snugpak sleepingbag are to small in width.
I'm a huge fan of Snugpak bags. I've used them in all 4 seasons in Ontario and Alberta. In the arctic. Mountians and deserts in California, Afghanistan, and Iraq. They're light, small pack size, and warm even when wet. There's probably newer fancier stuff out there now but Snugpak bags are worth looking at.
Snugpak has always been my go-to.
Love Snugpak. Would OP liable for tariffs though?
Snugpak make basically all you want from a sleeping bag. Bit more expensive but great night's sleep.
