Certain colors of the Teton Celsius xxl is on sale for $65. I bought a 20° one recently and its great!
Really any bag rated for 15 to 20 degrees lower than what's forecasted. Fahrenheit by the way. If it goes down to 20 don't expect to be comfortable in a bag rated only for 20. For at or below freezing temps you want a bag rated for 15 to 0. Teton has some sales going on right now making some great bags under $90. And some closer to $50. I have the celsius XXL 20 and it did great for 40 degree nights. And it's big enough to roll on my side inside of. Also you will want a mat or something under you otherwise the ground will steal your heat. Harbour freight has cheap moving blankets you can fold up and put under you to help if you're in a pinch.
Do you NEED -35F? If you do I would buy a proper brand sleeping bag, and not mid tier. -35f is nothing to mess around with. And I would get a mummy bag in that case, and I do not like mummy bags. Teton themselves are a decent brand, but like most mid tier brands their advertised rating is not for comfort but survival, and usually a\~10 degree fudge factor. Similar to "on paper vs reality". Square bags also do not keep in heat well compared to a mummy. If you need sub freezing I would do more research. Things like how they insulate the zipper can make of break a decent night of sleep. I have a +20 degree Teton synthetic rectangle, it's the XXL size. And although it's super nice for the price and keeps me warm I noticed around 38-40 degrees if there's any wind it gets into the sleeping bag through the zipper. Not saying this will do the same, just an example.
Second the Teton Celsius XXL! I grabbed one a couple years back for a week-long trip and it was a game changer for both warmth and comfort. I’m a side sleeper too and being able to move around inside the bag made sleeping way easier than those tight mummy bags.
Couple of questions. You're not hiking are you? This is just for camping/car camping. Does the sleeping bag have to be for two people? Regardless, when I am car camping I don't mind bringing big items one of those which I have used the past year and a half is the Teton Sports Celsius XXL bag. It's about 80 to $85 on Amazon. If you get two of them you can zip them together as long as you get right and left zippers on each one. It's a very big sleeping bag extremely warm I have used it down to 10° in the north Georgia Mountains for five consecutive days this past November and I slept in shorts and a t-shirt. Lots of room and it keeps you warm
Okay so it's car camping in just one person correct? If so you will be perfectly fine with the Teton Sports Celsius XXL sleeping bag it goes to 0°.
Your Klymit pad has an R rating of only 1.9 - woefully inadequate. And Klymit is really squirrelly about how they go about rating their pads. **What model Cabela's do you have?** I saw a few with really high R values. You want *at least* a 4.5 rated pad. Your Cabela might be the way to go. So it looks like you have to replace your sleeping bag because of short length. Look on Amazon for *Teton Celcius XL or XXL*. They are 0°F, rectangular, and extra long, and $90. You could also pair that with a *Sea2Summit Reactor Fleece Sleeping Bag Liner*, $90 at Backcountry.com.
Check out the Teton Sports Celsius XXL (-18°C rating) for around $80-90 on Amazon.ca - its huge, you can layer clothes inside, add a fleece liner for another $20, and boom your set for those cold Canadian nights without breaking the bank.
Agreed, they are heavy and bulky but the price to warmth is unbeatable
Ive used their 20 degree bags in mid 30s to high 20s before and it did well enough, I was still able to comfortably sleep even though it started to push that comfort rating. I'd trust the teton brand to be accurate for their temp guidelines, heavy af though.
I have the teton bags. I have the 0f and the 20f. I have used the 0f down to 17f and i was cold all night. I would add 20 degrees to those ratings to be comfortable but they work and do the job. Make sure you plan the temperature accordingly. This will make or break your trip. Dont forget an inflatable pad and a closed cell foam pad too, it adds to the warmth and comfort.
