Kelty is a good brand and you are in the right price bracket. I personally have a Teton Mammoth Double Sleeping Bag and me and my partner love it for car camping in MA. The synthetic shell on the Kelty will probably do better if there is any risk of water infiotration. My experience with double bags is that they are drafty so they run cold. They're _big_ and so they are hard to clean. Fortunately you can fix both by getting a sleeping bag liner, which I'd highly recommend. I hope you guys have a good time!
I just got back from camping. I use a queen size Teton Sports Mammoth sleeping bag... just for myself. I will never go back!
We have the 0 degree mammoth bag for fall and spring. It's beyond cozy!
As long as you're not hiking and your car camping I would suggest Teton Sports zero degree XXL sleeping bag.
Honestly, an XL Teton from Amazon will be more than fine, but choose one that is rated for temps as low as 0 degree F at least. (I wouldn't use these at 0F, but they'll be warm with 40 degree nights in Oregon) I prefer the ones with softer poly-flannel lining inside.
i honestly dont know how much warm it provides but i like my s2s reactor bag liner. much better feel than my nylon quilt. but matched with my paria 15deg quilt, ive found it a good winter camp combo. that's with a nemo tensor extreme and ccf pad. also have a zero deg teton bag i use at hunting camp. thing is budget friendly ($100) bulky and wicked cozy. if space isnt concern, and budget is, its a good option. can look into bedrolls too. can throw certain setups in a snowbank and sleep cozy. have no product experience tho
I have the teton bags. I have the 0f and the 20f. I have used the 0f down to 17f and i was cold all night. I would add 20 degrees to those ratings to be comfortable but they work and do the job. Make sure you plan the temperature accordingly. This will make or break your trip. Dont forget an inflatable pad and a closed cell foam pad too, it adds to the warmth and comfort.
I also have a Teton 0F bag and it’s great. Used it earlier this month when it got down into the 40s at night. Wool socks and a hat make a huge difference too. I love that sleeping bag.
Teton 0 degree bag, it's big and heavy but it's very comfy and like 80$
Lot of good replies here already. If you're car camping, Id recommend a exped megamat duo and two Teton sleeping bags. They make a very good low temp bag, and they're big. Buy a left and right for you and her and they will zip together too! Much better than a mummy or sleeping bag. Warming water bottles by the fire is a game changer too. Stay warm while you sleep. Probably the only thing that really matters when camping in low temps. If you can't warm you'll be miserable. As an aside, blankets under your pad don't do a whole lot because the insulation comes from the air in the blanket. When you lie on top of it you compress the insulation. It's better than nothing, but it's a pretty compromised experience.
