Ended up going with TNF's Wawona Bed 20 (20F temp rating). TNF doesn't publish a survivability rating, but I'd guess 20F is it in this case. From what I can tell it's a solid three season bag. With some layers on at night it should be fine down into the 30s. Getting a sub 20F rated bag gets close to double in price and adds the mummy shape, which as a stomach sleeper, is too restrictive.
Experienced or not is not what matters. What matters is that you had a great time and your gear allowed you to enjoy your time outside! Consider the NorthFace Wawona for when it gets colder. It is rated for 20 but it was so warm i used it in the single digits in New Hanpshire during the winter. No matter what Happy Camping!
