I have the Thermarest Questar 20F, been down lower than its rated -6 with layers and been toasty. It's built in a clever way so you have a lot of room and aren't too swaddled in it and can move around. Totally recommend it.

I threw the 20F version on an Amazon Wishlist because I needed something for my kids and couldn't ask potential givers to go cottage or buy used. It's fine. It's somewhat underfilled and not made of the best materials, but it performs adequately. There are no glaring design flaws. With clothes and perhaps a puffy, I'd expect it to be solid to its comfort rating in a variety of conditions. If I were buying for my own personal use and expected it to become a part of my primary actually ultralight kit, I would be inclined save up a few bucks and buy something with higher fill down, a quilt format, better construction, and so on. I'd consider that money well spent. You'll no doubt get some good recs in the general price range here. So, again, not my first choice, but not a bad piece of gear, and it meets my needs. I'm happy to have it in the family arsenal, and the value at $160 is better than a lot of other available options.

I switched from a sleeping bag to a quilt three years ago and have never looked back. I'm a side sleeper, prefer the flexibility and freedom of movement that a quilt affords me, a sleeping bag does not. I appreciate the lighter weight of my quilt as well. I live in southern Alberta, about 40 minutes from the foothills on the eastern edge of the Rockies, and I camp in the backcountry year-round. I still own a Therm-a-Rest Parsec 20F sleeping bag, but it’s been three years since I last used it. It served me well in winter when paired with my Therm-a-Rest Corus 20F quilt. I run hot—except for my feet, which can be temperamental on cold nights. I now own four quilts: three from Enlightened Equipment and one more from Therm-a-Rest. I generally avoid nights colder than 10°F / -12°C, but I’ve been caught in -4°F / -20°C. Yes, it was cold, no doubt - I layered up with my Patagonia Micro Puff hoody and my [**Outdoor Vitals Loftek Booties**](https://outdoorvitals.com/products/lt-hybrid-booties) kept me through the night. My sleep system: * Nemo Tensor Extreme Conditions pad stacked over a Nemo Switchback foam pad, all on a Tyvek groundsheet. * Along with my sleeping clothes, I keep a merino wool beanie or balaclava, merino gloves, and my Micro Puff hoody within reach. No matter the season, my shelter stays the same — the HMG Ultamid 2. While my setup isn't for everyone, it works great for me. **MY QUILTS** **EE Quilts**; 20F, 10F, 0F * Model: [Revelation](https://enlightenedequipment.com/revelation-sleeping-quilt/) * 950 down fill * Draft Collar on all **Therm-a-Rest Quilts** * [Vesper, 20F, 900 down fill, no draft collar](https://www.frontenacoutfitters.com/products/thermarest-vesper-20f-6c-quilt) * [Corus, 20F, 650 down fill: ](https://www.bobleisure-canada.com/therm-a-rest-corus-20f/-6c--)

I have used also used the MSS and come to same conclusion. To lighten up I have picked up thermarest corus quilt and questar sleeping bag. Sleeping bag have loop where the quilt can hook and recreate the MSS. And it can keep me comortable at 0F/-18C. MSS could not do that. Instead of bivy i have switched to tarp.
