I used a nemo disco for a while and it was ok. Now I use a zenbivy quilt and won't go back to a bag.
Light Quilt Convertible 25° Down / Large plus core sheet. It feels much more like you are sleeping in a regular bed. I stretch out however I like, I can sleep on my back, side, or stomach without messing with the quilt, I haven't had any warmth issues though I haven't been in any extreme temps. Just all around better sleep experience.
Get a quilt and never go back. I love my zenbivy.
All you need is the quilt. If you want to fasten the quilt down which reduces drafts you need the sheet. You don't need their pad to make the rest work. In general I love my zenbivy and will never go back to a bag.
35 degree down alps mountaineering quilt. 1.5 pounds. Maybe the best piece of equipment that company has ever made. Or a zenbivy 25 down same weight. Depends on how windy, how much other clothes a I want to wear. Get off the ground if you can with a cot- car camping. Way warmer as the ground is 10x denser than air and sucks the warmth into the ground. A cot also offers better ventilation and you will have to practice venting vs cold. At some point it will be too cold for you in a 3 season tent and go with a warmer sleep system- insulated mat with a good r value, wool liner, light wool gloves and balaclava, 0 bag, new tent. Hot water bottle wrapped in your thickest sock stuffed in your bag! Like the folks say here- new dry clothes on a dry body in a dry tent. I've slept in cold on purpose and some really horrible mistakes have been made. 41 is entering the cold zone.
I love my Nemo Tensor and use it year round. As for bag I have a zenbivy light quilt that is great for temperature flexibility. Mine is rated for 25F and works for me late spring through early fall. The new 2025 ones have a 10F option which will extend the usability. In the summer you can just use it as a light blanket and then sinch it up like a bag when the weather cools.
I have a feathered friends flicker 30 degree and lark 10 degree. Those cover all my bases. I do have a zen bivy 25 which is nice but heavier.
I purchased a 25° Zenbivy setup during their last sale. I like how their setup does it a little differently but it’s slightly more of a cost. Their air mattress is highly rated and everyone says great things about how their quilt/sheet setup gives you the closest to an at home sleep. For me the price was worth getting the best night sleep. There’s also enlightened equipment or katabic who make quality quilts. Sleeping/mummy bags are really designed for back sleepers, side/stomach sleepers have a better time in a quilt and you’re saving some weight. Just make sure your pad is insulated appropriately. Not a bad idea to check out the thru hikers survey for Appalachian trail or PCT trail to see what people are using. Browse around /r/ultralight , /r/geartrade , or /r/ultralightgeartrade as well.
Expensive but I got my setup on sale. Love my Zenbivy setup paired with ear plugs. For me I can just move around more in my Zenbivy and it feels like how it would sleeping at home. I wouldn’t pay full price for everything but their bundle sales are a great value.
Whenever you see a picture of a sleeping bag like this and it looks extremely think/plush. They have inflated something inside to make it look that way. Zen bivy do the same. My zenbivy quilt is so fucking thin I can pinch my fingers from both sides and feel NO down in spots.
Look at Zenbivy. Having your feet free is their concept. It is a quilt that connects to you bottom sheet/pad. You can only hook the top and leave feet free or you can hook the sides of the feet but have the bottom open. Or just do one side. It's got lots of options for you to pick what you want. It's also made of down
I started off with the Nemo Disco. I’m a side sleeper and that bag allows me to move around without the mummy bag feeling. My son is camping with me so he got that sleeping bag and I upgraded to a Zenbivy. Game changer. Sleeping quilts are awesome and pack down just as well as traditional sleeping bags. Keep an eye out when they go on sale, got my system for 30% off. I got the 0 degree and yeah, if it’s 50 degrees out I have to open it up. At 30 degrees I’m snug as a bug. Haven’t gotten below 30 yet.
I got a zenbivy sleep system for around £250 in January on sale
Zenbify fits the design you're asking about, but is above your cost by a decent amount. They are super comfortable though, and I love mine. Might keep an eye and pick up on sale/discount or with a coupon code. I'd generally recommend 2 sleeping bags/quilts vs a shared double unless you both tend to sleep at the same temperature. You can also get sleeping bags that zip together if you do want to share space but have the option for solo/separate use. That being said, Kelty makes good stuff so I'd trust their double if it fits your needs.
