I have a Canon Ivy 2, and I love it. The color quality is great, and you can print circle stickers as well as rectangular.

I bought the Canon ivy in 2022 and had issues with it since I got it. Mine won’t grab the paper to print on it. Doesn’t matter if there’s more of the paper than there should be or if it’s less. It’s so frustrating!! I didn’t use it at all last year because it didn’t work

I got the Canon Ivy 2 and the stickers are pretty good. I don't think they're as good as polaroids, but they're quick, easy, and the stickers look nice.

I have the Canon 1500 and the Canon Ivy. They’re both great for their intended uses. I take the Canon Ivy with me just about every time I travel. I’ve owned it 3.5 years at this point and the battery needs charged more often, but it still works great!

I’ve had the Canon Ivy 2 for 2.5 years now. The color is very inconsistent, I assume it has to do with the paper refills you get. I mostly use my Canon SELPHY 1500 and LOVE it. I understand that it isn’t portable, though. Just had to put the shout out for it. It’s great.

Canon ivy 2 is the simplest, but it depends on the look youre going for. Instax also makes just photo printers, kodak, the slephy by canon ect. Take a look at each one and decide what you think looks best. I prefer no boarders so I went with an ivy also the sheets are sticker paper, but I do love the quality of prints form my old instax wide printer:)

I have a thermal printer, if you're okay with them fading over time and you're fine with black and white photos with less detail, it's an affordable option. It's also fun to print out little line drawings and then cut them out to use as stickers. I used to use it for photos but now I mostly just use it for random lists and little drawings, I rarely use it though, it pretty much collects dust. I got the Canon Ivy2 for photos in December though and really love it, I also have the Canon Selphy for 4*6 prints I got before the Ivy and I still use it as well. I find I enjoy the color prints more vs the thermal and I like that I don't have to worry about them fading. I also like that I can print multiple photos on one sheet and can cut them out. If you are on a budget and just want to print photos and don't care about portability you could just use an inkjet printer?

I've used a Kodak Mini 2 Retro and the Canon Ivy 2nd generation. I like the image quality better on the Kodak, but the photos are larger and don't have a sticky back, and it is one of the only brands to use the 4 step printing system so they are the only ones who sell the paper, and it's expensive. I got the Canon Ivy to remedy the high cost of the photo paper. Because a lot of different printers use the ZINK process, it's easier to find paper and the pricing tends to be more competitive. Like I think I got a pack of 50 for the same cost as 10 of the Kodak papers. That said, I have found that the colours come out much less saturated and darker than I was expecting. I've only used it a couple of times so far but I plan on experimenting with adjusting the saturation and brightness to try to counteract that next time.

I just received my new canon ivy 2 yesterday and I’m not so crazy about the quality of the pictures. I went for the canon cause it had sticky back paper and because I wanted the portable printer in white. Are there better recommendations than canon ivy? Preferably with sticky back since I want to use them for journaling. I heard the Kodak retro has really good quality but they don’t offer sticky back paper. Has anyone used double sided sticky tape to place them in their journals? And if so, how well does it stay in place?

It doesn’t use zink right? Cause I think that’s why the quality isn’t all there in the canon. The Kodak retro is one I’m definitely considering as #1 to replace it with the ivy. And your photos stick on well with the techo tape? It hasn’t ever fallen out?

Hello everyone! Not too long ago I made a post on asking for portable printer recommendations and many of you offered great options! I had previously bought the canon ivy but did not like the picture quality. I decided to go with the Polaroid hi-print! The one on the left is the Polaroid and the one on the right is the canon. The Polaroid definitely beats the canon. It also offers sticky pack prints! Just what I was looking for ☺️ and as you can see it’s slightly bigger. If you’re wondering, the canon ivy does weigh less than the Polaroid. The Polaroid has a little bit more weight to it but it’s nothing to worry about when traveling with it. I’ll be returning the canon ivy and keeping the Polaroid hi-print. Thank you all for your help and recommendations!

It definitely is closer to the original image. But I mainly picked the Polaroid for clarity. The canon looks too blurry to me and the colors look like it won’t last long on the sticky paper. Like the quality of the photo looks faded. I’m not sure how the pictures would look with really dark colors. I have a cat myself but I don’t think this pic will give you a good idea how a void will look like 😆 lololol. https://preview.redd.it/b1da5yclusie1.jpeg?width=1576&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=afd7cfad7e6e5c92f586aa7080e478b7d009a95e

I also have the canon ivy 2 for journaling. The quality reminds me of disposable camera picture quality from back in the day, which I don't mind. Makes everything look nostalgic. If I print pictures that aren't in full brightness though, then the shadows can look pretty dark so I apply the soft light filter before printing any darker/night shots.

I have had the HP sprocket and Canon Ivy 2. Both worked fine. I liked the Canon 2 over the sprocket though for color of my photos though neither were perfect. My Canon does occasionally have issues where it tells me I’m out of paper and won’t print. But it has paper and nothing I do fixes it. I leave it alone and just try again later and it prints fine again. I did recently get a Polaroid Hi Print. Print quality I think is better than the Sprocket and Ivy. And I like that the paper isn’t Zink so it is much thinner. It’s still sticker paper so perfect for journaling. Of the 3, Canon has the easies app to use and you don’t need a separate app to do a collage to be print more than 1 photo on one sticker paper.

I have the Canon Ivy 2 and I do like it for a lot of reasons. It is already sticker-backed, it’s very compact, easy to carry refill sheets (no cartridges), and the software is easy to use. But the colors are always a little bit off. And from what I’m told, they fade after years and years. If you want something to have even a little bit of archival quality, you’ll want to avoid zink. I also have the Instax printer which is super fun, but so heckin’ bulky that it doesn’t really work well for regular or travel journaling. I picked up the Liene photo printer that does sublimation printing and the colors are so significantly better. I do have to create the printable image on different software (if, say, I want 2”x3” photos instead) but the colors are really unmatched. I didn’t think it would be noticeable but it really is. The pen you shared is utterly beautiful!

Thank you so much for posting this review!! I now have 3 “mini” printers and the one I want to use the most is the one I’m growing to loathe, the Ivy 2 mini. The color is horrid compared to the real picture and I just don’t have the time, patience, or knowledge to adjust the color for every single print. The Instax Mini Link is somewhat better with color, but I often don’t want the Polaroid look for a photo. My third is the Selphy CP910 that I’ve had for YEARS. It’s a workhorse and truest to life as far as color quality, but it also takes a lot more work to print, since it prints bigger (4x6) and if I want smaller pics, I have to print several others so I’m not wasting paper. 😖 Not to mention it’s not portable - it has to be plugged in and is larger in size. I’ve been contemplating getting a Kodak or Sprocket, but the Sprocket seems comparable to the Ivy when it comes to color, so that’s a hard pass. The Kodak might be the way to go! This is super helpful. Just want to confirm - this is the Mini 2 Retro P210R?

Trying to decide on a good mini printer, and I'm not sure if I should go for the Kodak Mini 2 Retro, Kodak Step, Canon Ivy 2 Mini, or HP Sprocket. I don't mind having to use adhesive, though sticker back paper wouuuld be nice, but most of all I want something easy to use, with the best quality images for small prints. Mostly gonna use it for journaling and scrapbooking.

Thank you so much! I ended up ordering the Canon Ivy 2 just to have little sticker prints I can use in my journal and things like that, but I also have the Kodak Mini 2 saved in my online cart for down the line! It would be nice to be able to do slightly higher quality photo prints too, and it sounds so cool to watch the multi-pass printing process! Thanks for your thoughtful reply 😊

That’s definitely what I’ve been hearing, and it makes sense! I really appreciate the information! For now I went with a Zink printer, the Canon Ivy 2, because my main use for it right now is for journaling and similar small-scale, low-stakes projects, so a sacrifice in photo quality is okay. Though definitely down the line I would be interested in getting a 4 pass printer to have higher quality prints. Appreciate all the insight very much 😊

I haven’t any issue with my canon ivy 2. It’s highly compact, holds a charge for quite a while (is also compatible with my iPhone charger), and the paper refills are convenient/easy to store. I like the different shape sticker paper you can buy, and that the app is not only user friendly but allowes you to resize and create collages with multiple photos which I do quite often to cut out photos for more interesting layouts. https://preview.redd.it/gb29hvoz6kof1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=acfe08d32e4d05d248248cbcc0dbf0125ea038ef Using mine in a leuchtturm1917 currently, but I’m transitioning to a hobonichi a6 for 2016 and am looking forward to their continued use!

I have both the canon and the sprocket and I genuinely can’t decide which is better so you’re safe with both if you lean more towards those brands I’d say I do find them both have occasional issues on printing certain photos depending on the color sometimes & I’ll rarely reprint on the other one if it’s not working for my page spread. Sometimes one prints bluer & the other prints more yellow. I believe it’s the sprocket that prints with a blue hue but that doesn’t happen every print by any means

I have a Canon SELPHY QX20 and a Canon IVY 2. I love the QX20, but I can’t find any paper for it locally like I can for the Ivy. I had to order the paper directly from Canon, so it took about two weeks before I could even use the printer. The Ivy works well, but the print quality definitely isn’t as clear as the QX20.

I have a canon ivy 2, I find the print quality a bit lacking. It’s OK. The images don’t come out the same color as they would with a full size printer (I have an expensive, huge full size printer though. Love it but not portable haha!) Even text made through the app can get fuzzy upon printing. If you are going for that soft look, this will do great for you. If you are looking for crisp, probably not this one. The app is easy to use, but of course they are looking to sell you more things in there. The price per page is ridiculously expensive for the quality. I use it for journaling but I wouldn’t use it for anything else.

I got it primarily for my planner (after much hesitation, I was so worried I wouldn’t get enough use out of it) but I’ve found it to be so handy for printing fun photos and labels too. Ex: I went on a girl’s trip and made all of us “hangover cure” bags with custom stickers to remember the weekend.

I’ve tried the Canon Ivy, HP sprocket, and Polaroid Hi-Print and can’t recommend the Polaroid Hi-print enough! The photo quality is way better than the others and the sticker paper is way thinner than the others so it doesn’t bulk up your hobonichi as fast! The trade off is that the refills are more pricey however.

I’ve had mine probably around a year? I haven’t noticed any problems with fading but since they’re in a closed book I haven’t been too worried. The app doesn’t have a way to make collage photos like the Canon Ivy does, their app is great but the prints were hideous and depressing because they all have a vintage blue cast. I usually make the ones I want in InShot and export it pretty quickly.

they do but i find it to be pretty simple! i dont have much experience with printers and things but you basically just slide the cover off and place the stack of paper/sheets in there. you can buy them in packs of like 20 or 50 i believe! i think they give you a little blue piece of paper thats like a calibrating/test sheet that you just set on top of the other photo papers and run that through first. then you use an app to do the printing and editing!

Polaroïd hi-print and Canon Ivy. I like them both! I have on my profile the difference between the two. The hi-print are bigger so they will take a lot of your free space in your A6 but I still use it. I sometimes do collage on my Canon ivy but print it on my Hi-print and cut them since you can’t do collage with the hi-print. https://www.reddit.com/r/hobonichi/s/8Xkj9lGHnN My opinions changed since I made that post but the pictures are true to life.

I made a tiny review with pictures on my profile. I have both printers. If you "fix" the pictures before sending them to the printer, the Canon Ivy does great but it’s gray tinted and a lot less bright than the high print. The High print is really pretty, thinner and so nice but the paper doesn’t stick as well on the pages. The other negative is that you can’t do multiple pictures in one print. Sorry for my English. I’m not doing well these days.

yeah i keep debating to return my sprocket and get the ivy bc i heard the ivy prints better quality. my sprocket has been printing very saturation photos with a pink/yellowish tone. so I got the HP sprocket and wasn’t so happy and the photo quality. the pictures were coming out very saturated and i would have to edit the photo before printing. i was still not a fan bc the editing still didn’t look right (i also don’t know much about editing with light exposure) so i returned it and got the Canon Ivy. I really like it. while some of the photo prints do come out a little saturated, it’s not as bad as the HP sprocket (in my opinion) I also figured out that since this photo printers rely on thermal printing instead of inks, when you are loading the paper to the Canon, it fits i think 10 in the machine at once, so say you only print 2 photos for the day and the three days later you print 2 more photos (i hope this makes sense) ((I don’t print all my photos at once bc i junk journal through the week and get new ideas)) there will be a blue paper with the photos to load in the Canon and it’s supposed to help with making the pictures come out nicer so I’ll keep the blue piece of paper and load it back in for next time so my next photos will come out good. I probably confused you but look at tutorials on how to print and you’ll see there’s a blue piece of paper with the photos that will come out first before you start printing.

I like the Canon Ivy for convenience and i use the HP zink paper. I believe all zink paper will fade but how much depends on how it is stored, I haven't had too much fading when keeping them in journals. If you want something that is guaranteed to not fade for like a 100 years or so then you'll want a dye-sublimation printer like the Canon Selphy Square or CP1500. I haven't tried these but I really want to pick up the Selphy Square for the shape of the prints.

I had the Canon Ivy (1) and then a few months ago I replaced it with the HP Sprocket 2x3. I prefer the Sprocket a little bit more, it prints more warm. Also I would have issues with the Ivy connecting to my phone. As long as you have the blue scan card for your printer, you can use whatever paper you find cheaper.

I tested out the Kodak mini retro 2 and canon ivy. Ultimately for my needs and ease of use I picked the ivy. The Kodak photos were too thick for my liking and I liked the sticker paper for the ivy. And when traveling the ivy is much more compact esp with the refills. I also preferred canon’s app, esp for collaging photos if I wanted to print multiple on one sheet. You have way more control in terms of reframing/editing them. For printing,I found that even tho it cuts off the bottom slightly, it was more accurately framed than Kodak which will randomly crop in on the sides or bottom. Though there are blue tint issues with the ivy, I’ve learned how to color correct my photos before printing, so it’s no problem. I also noticed a few times with Kodak because it runs the photo thru the dye sublimation process, it can easily get misaligned and I wasted a few sheets bc of that (might’ve just been my machine tho) I was concerned about the zink longevity and so really wanted to love the Kodak. But all my photos go in a journal that’ll remain closed for the most part. And I guess if I really care then I’ll print with an actual printer

Hey !!! I have the Canon Ivy mini photo printer and it uses sticky back paper the size of a credit card and I saw on here someone say they're looking for a mini printer that doesn't add much bulk etc and I just wanted to highly recommend it !!!! Happy planning !!!

If you do a lot of printing, i’d recommend buying a full size printer and using photo paper and glue tape. I do photo journals so multiple photos per day and when i did the math for my canon ivy, it was going to be like 800$ a year in paper! I bought an epson tank style printer and am very happy with it. The canon ivy was great for when I only did a few photos a week, although the paper is pricey it printed great for about 2 years!

My husband bought me a canon ivy mini printer for Christmas a few years ago. I really like it! The pictures are 2x3 and adhesive. The photos still look good but I got it 3 years ago so they're not super old yet. The picture quality is pretty good but not perfect (kind of cloudy looking but I don't mind).

I was gifted a Canon Ivy for my birthday a couple years ago, it's a zink printer that comes with sticky backing photo paper so it makes it very convenient for bujoing. The photo quality comes out pretty clear! Sometimes a little over saturated, but there are a lot of options to edit/collage in the app which is nice. The paper comes out at about $0.40 per 2x3 sheet, which seems like the price for other similar printers.

I got the canon ivy and learned I LOVE adding photos to my daily log/ memory keeping. Looking at the feedback here I might look at the selphy but wanted to see if I even used a mini printer. I will say the ease of the ivy makes it really great, just throw in the paper and done. I only put the photos in to highlight those small moments so quality doesn’t bother me too too much. If I wanted an actual quality print I’d use an ink printer

I just got the canon ivy and have been liking it! I like how in the app, you can print several photos on the same sheet, allowing for different sizes. I’ve found the photos run a little on the cooler side, but it doesn’t really bother me.

I use both a canon Ivy and just a regular printer with recycled sticker paper and I go back and forth just depending on my mood. I have a silhouette portrait machine and some printable that I like to use repeatedly (star ratings, stress stickers, freebie printables from someone I follow on Patreon, etc) so obviously those go on sticker paper and through the silhouette but generally speaking, if I can fill at least half of a printer page with whatever I need, I’ll use the printer. If it’s less, I’ll whip it up in canon Ivy

I have no method of comparison because I only have one, but I really like my Canon Ivy. I actually picked it because I was following somebody on Instagram, who basically does journaling and she prints out all of the book jackets that the books that she read that year. (I hope this makes sense- jet lagging night 1 in Japan)

I have the Canon Ivy and it prints 2" by 3" stickers that seem to have lasted well! (I haven't used a Hobonichi journal before, but have taken photos to stick into other journals with it for years.) The colors aren't super accurate but they're good enough and it's very compact.

I got the Canon Ivy since I was just starting out and it was discounted for me. The bottom half of the image is cut off for me a bit, so the sizing is a bit off. I also have to colour correct the images a bit because of the blue hue. It is convenient to peel and stick into my Weeks. I don't have experience with the other printers. Just throwing in my +1 for the one I do have.

I have the Canon Ivy. The print quality is not great. It prints dark in my opinion. You can make adjustments in the app and it can help but still not great IMO. I do like it for the purpose of what I use it for (adding pictures to my TN entries. I would like to know what people think of Liene photo printer. I bought it but returned it because it was not compatible with my iPhone. I have iPhone 11 Pro Max.

Every single photo you print can either be a standard photo or you can peel off the back and it’s a sticker. You do not have to buy two separate sets of paper and the photos that come out of it are the standard thickness of photos that you get printed at a lab.

For me the Canon Ivy is pretty inconsistent with color and not as vivid as I’d like. I just got the Liene PixCut and have been really pleased so far. Not super portable, but still pretty small.

I have the ivy and regret it. Mainly because I also use it to print pictures of my dogs which are both black and the ivy always prints anything dark with a blue tint. The colorful prints or bright prints look great. I saw a video on the selphy and it’s looks really easy to change the ink not sure how much it costs though. Not needing to change ink and the price for ink was the main reason I went for the Ivy. I got mine for free though so it’s not so bad.

I have one, too, and really like it! The app lets you make collages so you can print more than one photo on a sheet and cut them apart. I like printing two photos on one sheet, and four book covers fit perfectly.

I have a thermal printer by Poooli, and they sell special paper that doesn’t fade. It’s kind of plastic-y rather than straight up paper, and called the photo refill. I don’t think you need to have a Poooli printer to use it, it should fit any thermal printer. I also own a Canon Ivy, but I use the photos for different purposes. The Canon Ivy refills are relatively expensive so I’m mindful of only printing things that I specifically want in color. If it doesn’t matter that it’s black and white, I use the Poooli as it’s a lot cheaper to run, a whole roll of paper will last me around a year. So for me the whole “get a Canon instead” isn’t a good argument as it’s so much more expensive to run.

I’ve used the canon ivy and HP Sprocket. I also buy paper for them off of alibaba that is so much cheaper. Don’t go with a thermal printer- the images won’t last.

Which one did you end up buying? I have both a Kodak mini 2 retro (P210R) and a Canon Ivy. The Kodak prints look nice and I’ve never had a problem with it (I’m at 60 prints so far). The Ivy prints are muddy, magenta tinted, and poor quality.

I like my Canon Ivy. I used to have the Polaroid Hi-Print but it would jam like crazy and I'd lose a whole roll. The only issue I have is that the definition/color quality isn't great. I have to adjust the brightness and saturation every time I print a photo for it to look at least somewhat like the original, and it's not a crisp image. BUT it works great for my creative journaling, which I like to be a little messy/imperfect anyway. :)

I also have the Ivy and I really like it! My 1 qualm is how quickly the battery drains, but I do tend to print about 20 pictures at a time and I don't think it was intended for that. I also travel mine and it has been very reliable within the safety of the case.
