I LOVE my Canon Ivy. I like that I can print them and they are stickers and don't take up all the space and I can print my selfies (that I never print) and some of my nicer photos. The quality is great but obviously photo printing quality at staples or a photo store.

I have the Canon Ivy and highly recommend! Photo quality is better than expected. I also got the small circle sticker paper for when I want to go smaller than 2x3. I got it primarily for my planner (after much hesitation, I was so worried I wouldn’t get enough use out of it) but I’ve found it to be so handy for printing fun photos and labels too. Ex: I went on a girl’s trip and made all of us “hangover cure” bags with custom stickers to remember the weekend.

I came here to vouch for the Canon Ivy! I but the generic Zinc sheets from Amazon, which run $23 for a 50 pack. The photos are 2" x 3" and they are pretty darn good.

I have a Canon Ivy and a Canon Selphy Square and use them both, depending on the shot and the space I have for it.

I’ve had a Canon Ivy for years, and also a Canon Selphy square. I tend to use the Selphy a lot because it is newer and higher quality, but the narrower Ivy photos work well if I have a little less space. I got non-proprietary cases for travel and have loved having them!

I use Canon’s version, the Ivy. But I use HP paper. I read that was the best combo - still not great quality (think old Polaroid level) but allegedly best.

I’ve tried the Canon Ivy, HP sprocket, and Polaroid Hi-Print and can’t recommend the Polaroid Hi-print enough! The photo quality is way better than the others and the sticker paper is way thinner than the others so it doesn’t bulk up your hobonichi as fast! The trade off is that the refills are more pricey however.

I’ve had mine probably around a year? I haven’t noticed any problems with fading but since they’re in a closed book I haven’t been too worried. The app doesn’t have a way to make collage photos like the Canon Ivy does, their app is great but the prints were hideous and depressing because they all have a vintage blue cast. I usually make the ones I want in InShot and export it pretty quickly.

I have the Canon 1500 and the Canon Ivy. They’re both great for their intended uses. I take the Canon Ivy with me just about every time I travel. I’ve owned it 3.5 years at this point and the battery needs charged more often, but it still works great!

So I have the original Canon IVY and I was never a fan of their zink paper so I switched to using Kodak’s zink paper in the device and I love it. You just have the keep the original blue square that comes in the Canon zink paper so the IVY is able to print properly.

they do but i find it to be pretty simple! i dont have much experience with printers and things but you basically just slide the cover off and place the stack of paper/sheets in there. you can buy them in packs of like 20 or 50 i believe! i think they give you a little blue piece of paper thats like a calibrating/test sheet that you just set on top of the other photo papers and run that through first. then you use an app to do the printing and editing!

Polaroïd hi-print and Canon Ivy. I like them both! I have on my profile the difference between the two. The hi-print are bigger so they will take a lot of your free space in your A6 but I still use it. I sometimes do collage on my Canon ivy but print it on my Hi-print and cut them since you can’t do collage with the hi-print. https://www.reddit.com/r/hobonichi/s/8Xkj9lGHnN My opinions changed since I made that post but the pictures are true to life.

I made a tiny review with pictures on my profile. I have both printers. If you "fix" the pictures before sending them to the printer, the Canon Ivy does great but it’s gray tinted and a lot less bright than the high print. The High print is really pretty, thinner and so nice but the paper doesn’t stick as well on the pages. The other negative is that you can’t do multiple pictures in one print. Sorry for my English. I’m not doing well these days.

yeah i keep debating to return my sprocket and get the ivy bc i heard the ivy prints better quality. my sprocket has been printing very saturation photos with a pink/yellowish tone. Been trying to edit the photos to change to saturation on the original photos to see if that helps but i don’t a fan of how they come out

r/Journaling • which photo printer is better? ->

so I got the HP sprocket and wasn’t so happy and the photo quality. the pictures were coming out very saturated and i would have to edit the photo before printing. i was still not a fan bc the editing still didn’t look right (i also don’t know much about editing with light exposure) so i returned it and got the Canon Ivy. I really like it. while some of the photo prints do come out a little saturated, it’s not as bad as the HP sprocket (in my opinion) I also figured out that since this photo printers rely on thermal printing instead of inks, when you are loading the paper to the Canon, it fits i think 10 in the machine at once, so say you only print 2 photos for the day and the three days later you print 2 more photos (i hope this makes sense) ((I don’t print all my photos at once bc i junk journal through the week and get new ideas)) there will be a blue paper with the photos to load in the Canon and it’s supposed to help with making the pictures come out nicer so I’ll keep the blue piece of paper and load it back in for next time so my next photos will come out good. I probably confused you but look at tutorials on how to print and you’ll see there’s a blue piece of paper with the photos that will come out first before you start printing.

I like the Canon Ivy for convenience and i use the HP zink paper. I believe all zink paper will fade but how much depends on how it is stored, I haven't had too much fading when keeping them in journals. If you want something that is guaranteed to not fade for like a 100 years or so then you'll want a dye-sublimation printer like the Canon Selphy Square or CP1500. I haven't tried these but I really want to pick up the Selphy Square for the shape of the prints.

I had the Canon Ivy (1) and then a few months ago I replaced it with the HP Sprocket 2x3. I prefer the Sprocket a little bit more, it prints more warm. Also I would have issues with the Ivy connecting to my phone. As long as you have the blue scan card for your printer, you can use whatever paper you find cheaper.

Hello everyone! Not too long ago I made a post on asking for portable printer recommendations and many of you offered great options! I had previously bought the canon ivy but did not like the picture quality. I decided to go with the Polaroid hi-print! The one on the left is the Polaroid and the one on the right is the canon. The Polaroid definitely beats the canon. It also offers sticky pack prints! Just what I was looking for ☺️ and as you can see it’s slightly bigger. If you’re wondering, the canon ivy does weigh less than the Polaroid. The Polaroid has a little bit more weight to it but it’s nothing to worry about when traveling with it. I’ll be returning the canon ivy and keeping the Polaroid hi-print. Thank you all for your help and recommendations!

It definitely is closer to the original image. But I mainly picked the Polaroid for clarity. The canon looks too blurry to me and the colors look like it won’t last long on the sticky paper. Like the quality of the photo looks faded. I’m not sure how the pictures would look with really dark colors. I have a cat myself but I don’t think this pic will give you a good idea how a void will look like 😆 lololol. https://preview.redd.it/b1da5yclusie1.jpeg?width=1576&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=afd7cfad7e6e5c92f586aa7080e478b7d009a95e

I tested out the Kodak mini retro 2 and canon ivy. Ultimately for my needs and ease of use I picked the ivy. The Kodak photos were too thick for my liking and I liked the sticker paper for the ivy. And when traveling the ivy is much more compact esp with the refills. I also preferred canon’s app, esp for collaging photos if I wanted to print multiple on one sheet. You have way more control in terms of reframing/editing them. For printing,I found that even tho it cuts off the bottom slightly, it was more accurately framed than Kodak which will randomly crop in on the sides or bottom. Though there are blue tint issues with the ivy, I’ve learned how to color correct my photos before printing, so it’s no problem. I also noticed a few times with Kodak because it runs the photo thru the dye sublimation process, it can easily get misaligned and I wasted a few sheets bc of that (might’ve just been my machine tho) I was concerned about the zink longevity and so really wanted to love the Kodak. But all my photos go in a journal that’ll remain closed for the most part. And I guess if I really care then I’ll print with an actual printer

If you do a lot of printing, i’d recommend buying a full size printer and using photo paper and glue tape. I do photo journals so multiple photos per day and when i did the math for my canon ivy, it was going to be like 800$ a year in paper! I bought an epson tank style printer and am very happy with it. The canon ivy was great for when I only did a few photos a week, although the paper is pricey it printed great for about 2 years!

I was gifted a Canon Ivy for my birthday a couple years ago, it's a zink printer that comes with sticky backing photo paper so it makes it very convenient for bujoing. The photo quality comes out pretty clear! Sometimes a little over saturated, but there are a lot of options to edit/collage in the app which is nice. The paper comes out at about $0.40 per 2x3 sheet, which seems like the price for other similar printers.

I got the canon ivy and learned I LOVE adding photos to my daily log/ memory keeping. Looking at the feedback here I might look at the selphy but wanted to see if I even used a mini printer. I will say the ease of the ivy makes it really great, just throw in the paper and done. I only put the photos in to highlight those small moments so quality doesn’t bother me too too much. If I wanted an actual quality print I’d use an ink printer

I use both a canon Ivy and just a regular printer with recycled sticker paper and I go back and forth just depending on my mood. I have a silhouette portrait machine and some printable that I like to use repeatedly (star ratings, stress stickers, freebie printables from someone I follow on Patreon, etc) so obviously those go on sticker paper and through the silhouette but generally speaking, if I can fill at least half of a printer page with whatever I need, I’ll use the printer. If it’s less, I’ll whip it up in canon Ivy

I got the Canon Ivy since I was just starting out and it was discounted for me. The bottom half of the image is cut off for me a bit, so the sizing is a bit off. I also have to colour correct the images a bit because of the blue hue. It is convenient to peel and stick into my Weeks. I don't have experience with the other printers. Every single photo you print can either be a standard photo or you can peel off the back and it’s a sticker. You do not have to buy two separate sets of paper and the photos that come out of it are the standard thickness of photos that you get printed at a lab.

The colorful prints or bright prints look great. I saw a video on the selphy and it’s looks really easy to change the ink not sure how much it costs though. Not needing to change ink and the price for ink was the main reason I went for the Ivy. I got mine for free though so it’s not so bad.

I have a thermal printer by Poooli, and they sell special paper that doesn’t fade. It’s kind of plastic-y rather than straight up paper, and called the photo refill. I don’t think you need to have a Poooli printer to use it, it should fit any thermal printer. I also own a Canon Ivy, but I use the photos for different purposes. The Canon Ivy refills are relatively expensive so I’m mindful of only printing things that I specifically want in color. If it doesn’t matter that it’s black and white, I use the Poooli as it’s a lot cheaper to run, a whole roll of paper will last me around a year. So for me the whole “get a Canon instead” isn’t a good argument as it’s so much more expensive to run.

I like my Canon Ivy. I used to have the Polaroid Hi-Print but it would jam like crazy and I'd lose a whole roll. The only issue I have is that the definition/color quality isn't great. I have to adjust the brightness and saturation every time I print a photo for it to look at least somewhat like the original, and it's not a crisp image. BUT it works great for my creative journaling, which I like to be a little messy/imperfect anyway. :)
