Your issue is your not printing weekly a full color print with black I at least once a week print a full color test page in rainbow to prevent clogs with in jet I've let my G7020 sit 3 weeks before though.

I've also noticed my canon g7020 prints better pictures then Epson ECOTANK I also noticed the canon G7020 sits better not printing for 1 week at a time vs the Epson I also noticed my canon has no expiration on the ink. But the Epson is like 2-3 years.

I use a Canon G7020, which is a supertank printer. It does a great job on photos. I use lustre photo paper with it. For editing, I use Corel Paint Shop Pro Ultimate. It's $100, but there's a free 30 Day trial. I've used it in different iterations through the years and it's really user-friendly. I also like that it is a standalone program, no subscription needed.

I had this problem with my old Canon G7020 printer. However it ran for 4 years and around 45,000 pages before it started throwing warnings about the absorber. I replaced it with a GX4020 which has a replaceable waste tank. Note that these will cost around $10 every year or so. I just checked mine and it's showing around 25% remaining life after \~10 months of usage.

My wife is a school teacher and has the same needs as you do. Last summer I got a Canon GX4020 and I've been pretty happy with the performance. I think it ticks all your boxes, but I don't know how well it does photos. It does duplex printing, but NOT duplex scanning if that's important to you. I don't think there's any inktank MFP under $600 that does duplex scanning. Prior to that we had a Canon G7020 that ran well for 4 years and around 45,000 pages. The nozzles never really clogged even during the summers, but it's best to print a page at least every week or so. The Canon ink bottles are pretty economical, but I've been getting generic inks from Amazon which are about 1/2 the price of OEM. Haven't heard any complaints, but again she doesn't do much photo printing. ETA: If you decide to buy this printer through Amazon, be wary of buying from any 3rd party sellers. The first one I got was from Canada and did not have a US warranty.
