Thank you for following me back on IG. And very good advice to not compare myself to others. "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder," right? It's encouraging to see that someone like yourself has started small and doing great now! BTW, I had ordered the printer on Amazon and then got a message that the seller had cancelled the order. Never had that happen before. Anyway, I couldn't find it anywhere else on Amazon, so I just now ordered it from Staples. It was QUITE a bit more - $234.99 plus tax, but it is the one I want, so I'm biting the bullet.

Hello again! I tried to DM you, but it said it didn't recognized your username. Anyway, just to lyk that I got my printer and am trying to get it set up. It's a LOT bigger than I thought, esp. since I live in a tiny house. On my way to get a cable because I can't use the wifi to connect, I'm excited to use it. Also, I orderd a couple of greeting cards from your website (Lunar Bitten 1 & 2). Looking forward to seeing your work (in person)!

You're not going to find a colour laser that can do 11x17 for under $500CAD, or anywhere close to that. There are probably fewer printer models on the market now than ever, but very few that can do 11x17 and are within that price range, so it's really just about taking the handful of options and picking either what you like or what is cheapest or simply what is accessible to order in your area. I say this because that's essentially my same scenario when I last looked. I went with a Canon Pixma IP8720, which was onsale for $250 CAD when I got it in 2023 at Henry's, and coincidentally is on sale at Henry's right now for that same price. Print quality is great, very fast, and being a top fed inkjet means it'll work with various material types. I've been very happy with it, especially since it was replacing a 19-year old Epson Photo Stylus 2200, which was around $800 back in 2004. Although I don't use refillable inks, a google search shows there seem to be some available, along with third-party non-refillables.

Best bang for the buck is pixma ip-8700 series canon. Prints 13x19 that are pretty good. Good enough to sell, even with aftermarket ink.

I just looked at my machine and that’s the actual model. The driver just says 8700 series. I bought the 8720 like 4 years ago maybe more. I have a pro-200s now as well. I still use both. If you put its print side by side with the $550 pro-200s you will see the 8-ink system makes better pictures. That’s just science. But, and I have run this experiment so many times. If you hold each print at random up individually, nobody is better than a coin flip at guessing which is which. Not exactly true. I chum around with artists and a few savants and people do exist that will see the difference. But just as often people will identify the cheaper systems prints as better. What I’ve found is that having a blending version of magenta and cyan and a light gray dye makes a tiny difference compared to simply adding a blending gray to a traditional cmyb ink system. The 8720 can be had for about $200. Canon inks are great but the knockoff stuff is nearly always just as good and stupid cheap. Canon inkjet photo paper is worth the money but other brands are nearly as good. 4x6 prints are great. But my printer paid for itself the first week printing 13x19 calendars. It’s just a really absurdly fun size print, especially when you aren’t paying a photo lab $25 each.

I bought a Canon IP8720 years ago and it hits a budget sweet spot. Prints 13”x19” and quality is good enough to sell.

Also a wedding stationer and while I prefer to outsource my printing to professional printing houses, I do have a Canon IP8720 and can’t complain about it. It does a great job at handling the smaller projects I do and I actually do all my envelope printing in house on that printer with minimal issues. It looks like some of the details on the set you want to do are raised and while I think it should be able to handle it, I would recommend buying at least 25% cardstock than you’ll need to account for practice and mistakes.

I might look at the PIXMA iP8720, seems a good mix of price and a high-density printer. Also not all too slow or all too expensive. Ink prices look okay, and most Canons (at least the higher end dedicated photo printers I'm more familiar with) are less likely to clog than Epson (the other brand I would consider)

I had issues with my iP8720, and switched to the ix6820. All cartridges UV black, using print fab. Transparencies are jet black

I use Canon Pixma ip8720. The quality for the price can’t be beat. While not a professional photo printer I find the quality to be excellent for my personal needs and it prints up to 13 x 19 borderless.
