HP - Envy 6555e All-in-One Printer

Most inexpensive printers can't do borderless 8.5x11, but many cheaper ones do borderless 4x6 (the cheapest Canons tend to do it, but the cheapest HPs tend not to). Most inexpensive printers will have similar print quality: 3 color dye inks, and 1 pigment black, until you start spending $400+ CAD on dedicated photo printers which have more inks. If you're not stepping up to a dedicated photo printer, then I recommend buying the cheapest printer possible that supports a per-page ink subscription, and using that (I think HP is the only one that offers such a plan in Canada at the moment--Canon's Pixma Print Plan is only available in the US). Printing photos goes through ink extremely quickly, and ink subscriptions alleviate this somewhat as you pay the same per page (approx. $0.10 to $0.25 CAD per page, depending on volume) regardless of whether it's a single dot or a full page color photo. Keep in mind, most per-page ink subscription plans do not allow you to use the ink cartridges that you received through the subscription once you cancel the plan. HP 6555e supports borderless printing and is exactly $150 CAD; the cheaper HP printers don't support borderless. The other option is an ink tank ("supertank") printer, but you'll have to buy used; all options are $200 CAD or more (e.g., Brother MFC-J1205W). Ink tank printers do have the lowest cost per page by a wide margin (under $0.02 CAD per page), if you print a lot. I don't suggest buying an ink cartridge printer that doesn't have a per-page subscription plan, as you will end up paying a lot more per page (\~$0.61 CAD per 4x6 photo). You also have to deal with inks clogging up; for subscriptions this doesn't matter (since you don't pay for inks used during the cleaning cycle) and for supertanks ink is so cheap it doesn't matter.
