I have the Kodak Retro Mini 4 Pass and a Canon Selphy CP1500. I *HATE* the Kodak, I wouldn't wish this machine on my worst enemy. Sometimes it works perfectly, but other times for some reason the 4 pass doesn't align properly so you can see each colour layer and it's all slightly off, so it looks you're looking at a 3D image without the 3D glasses. I've cried real tears of frustration as entire cartridges have gone to waste because not a single image would align, and it's so random you never know when it'll start happening. I returned the original printer and Kodak sent a new one and the exact same thing still happens. Because so many cartridges waste, it makes it so incredibly expensive to try and use! And to be clear I've only ever used official branded cartridges, and I don't take the printer anywhere so it hasn't been damaged in any way and it always just sits in my desk. I was anxious getting the Selphy as it uses the 4 Pass technology I was worried I'd run into the same issues, but it's perfect. I've never ever had a single misaligned image. Please don't ever buy a Kodak, just get the Selphy.
It was the Kodak P300R Mini 3, it prints using 4Pass and that was why it was so bad. Each color didn't always align properly, so images were blurry at best and completely incomprehensible at worst. Whole cartridges would be wasted trying to make it work normally. I returned the first printer and the second one did it too, so it's not a singular issue with one faulty machine.
Do it! I also have a little portable Kodak P300R which is good fun, though it would be nice if it could connect to my camera directly.
I've not worked out the actual cost per print yet. I'd guess that for one off prints it works out cheaper on a per print basis due to not paying shipping, for larger quantities that difference will diminish and go the other way. So far the process of doing my own prints has been enjoyable too. I think cost per print isn't the right metric for judging how much something like a CP1500 is worth to you. I also have a small portable printer (Kodak P300R), the cost per print is terrible but it will fit in a small bag or a large pocket, and can produce a pretty nice small print in the moment.

I'm not sure what your budget is, but I highly recommend the [Liene PixCut](https://www.liene-life.com/products/pixcut-s1-photo-sticker-printer-and-cutter). You can print on photo paper, as well as sticker paper. The print quality is outstanding - much better than my Kodak Mini Retro 3. Also, the printer will cut the stickers for you, so you don't need to mess around with any other cutting tools. The downside is that it's much larger than a mini photo printer, so it's not really something you can carry around with you.
I don't have the specific printers you mentioned, but I do have a Kodak Mini 3 Retro and Liene Pixcut. Between the two the Liene produces much better photos and the software is significantly less buggy. If I had to choose between Kodak and Liene, I'd choose Liene every time.

I also had the Kodak Mini 3 Retro for almost three years now and have the exactly same problem!!
I have this as well, and im a huge fan. I like that the film is pretty cheap. you have to use an app on your phone to do the printing. no ragrats here!
yeah sometimes I do wish there was an option for sticker paper. ive only had mine for like one month, but I've gone through like two boxes of film. I'm going back and doing a journal for my summer travels and printing out hella pics. sometimes charging can be annoying, and overheating. it is an inconvenience, but its small compared to how much enjoyment and value im getting from the printer. I found the best deal to be on amazon. you can get it for cheaper during prime deal time but I think that just passed
Can confirm, it’s fantastic! Working in a collage with a bunch of these in one frame to surprise my fiancée
She’s had it for about 2 months (she took it with her on her trip), but we printed off a bunch before she left and some while over there. Been great so far!
I used to use an HP Sprocket and it was great but then I saw the photo quality of the Kodak Retro and the colors just seemed so much more vibrant! I have made the switch to Kodak Retro! I also priced it out and the Kodak refills are about half the price of the HP Zink paper.
I used to use an HP Sprocket with Zink paper. (pros: fast printing, sticker-back paper. cons: streaks sometimes visible, color leans kinda lavender) Then, I saw a friend using the Kodak Mini Retro and I switched over. (pros: colors are clearer, images sharper. con: needs an adhesive to stick into the journal, printing is slower due to the "4 pass" process) I am using the Kodak Retro for travel journaling now because color and sharpness are important to me. I wish it had the sticker back tho! I bring a tape runner with me, but I have had them run out while I was on a trip!
Kodak mini retro for me because I wanted to have pictures that last and it’s a 4 pass printer. Need a glue tape mouse as well because it’s not a sticker though. Refills are affordable tho. I also have a thermal Phomemo inter for when being archival isn’t an issue (tick boxes etc).
I like my Kodak retro mini (so much I bought the bigger one) but it never gets mentioned on Reddit. It does good quality prints that last so I don’t know why people prefer zink. I got a thermal printer for disposable stuff too
