I have Kodak Minishot 3. When it works, the photos are of stunning quality. The drawback is that my machine decided to start chewing cartridges like an old boombox that eats tape. It's mechanically more complex than other types of printing. The paper has to go in and out of the printer 4 times (CMY+lamination), the print process takes a good minute, and you can't really do it on the go (you should at least stop walking). Much less on the "fun" aspect, **much** more on the quality/wow factor. All that said, it's really worth it when it works (and it doubles as a mobile photo printer), but I'd at least buy their **next** iteration of the technology, [Kodak Minishot Era](https://kodakphotoprinter.com/collections/all-era-except-0-5-and-1/products/kodak-mini-shot-4-era-4pass-2-in-1-instant-camera-and-photo-printer-4x4-camera-68-sheets-gift-accessories-black). Hopefully, they have ironed out the kinks in the technology.

I'm not sure what your budget is, but I highly recommend the [Liene PixCut](https://www.liene-life.com/products/pixcut-s1-photo-sticker-printer-and-cutter). You can print on photo paper, as well as sticker paper. The print quality is outstanding - much better than my Kodak Mini Retro 3. Also, the printer will cut the stickers for you, so you don't need to mess around with any other cutting tools. The downside is that it's much larger than a mini photo printer, so it's not really something you can carry around with you.

Kodak Mini Shot 2 makes 2x3 inch prints Kodak Mini Shot 3 makes 3x3 inch prints Kodak Mini Shot 4 makes 4x4 inch prints -this one is pricy All have the ability to also print photos from your phone using a free Kodak proprietary companion app. There are p200r and p300r printer-only units for the 2x3 and 3x3 formats. They’re a little less expensive than the corresponding cameras, apparently the camera module doesn’t cost very much.

I have a Kodak 4Pass and it’s pretty good for a tiny printer. I don’t have sticky back prints, but just use a Tombow sticky tape runner https://tombow.co.uk/products/maxi-power-permanent-glue-tape it’s super convenient for pasting all sorts into the Techo

It doesn’t use zinc as far as I’m aware. The fun thing about the 4Pass (mine is the Mini 3 Retro 4Pass) is it prints in 4 layers, first yellow, then magenta, then cyan and lastly a lamination layer (very thin layer to protect), the photo comes most of way out, then gets pulled back in for the next layer until all four passes has completed. Refills are both ink and paper, in little cartridges. The software is ok, you can make some tweaks to your image, as well as collage a few (I often do 4 small photos). The paper is thick though, so if you print a lot of photos it will add a lot of bulk. I’ve not had any issues with the glue tape unsticking, it’s very good.

I recently went down the portable printer rabbit hole too... This is what I found: Instax - undeniably charming, film is kinda expensive, but the feel of an instant photo is pretty awesome. Unfortunately adds bulk to my scrapbook though. Kodak Mini 2 Retro - my sister has one, and LOVES it. According to her it's been pretty reliable. Kodak Mini Retro Square - Bought this from Walmart because there was a sale. The paper also seems to be the cheapest out of the sublimation printers BUT quality control sucks. I maybe got one good print, before the cartridge got jammed, and wasting the rest of the paper. It was incredibly disappointing. I returned it, and got another just in case, and same thing happened. IMO not worth it, at least this last batch Polaroid Lab - This is my husband's, this is by far the most expensive film. There is definitely a learning curve too as it still has that "mysterious how will it turn out" vibe. You'll learn eventually, but for my purposes (wanting easy instant nice photos) it was a no go. My husband loves the thing though. The square photos are fun, especially the black and white photos. Canon QX20 - To be fair, this one is one of the pricier options. I was able to catch a sale where it was $20 cheaper. The price though can potentially be justified: 1. it can print both card and square prints (not at the same time, but you can potentially go back and forth. 2. The paper is actually sticker paper, which is perfect for scrapbooking and keeping bulk to a minimum. I've gifted these, and people actually seem delighted that it's a sticker. There is a white strip where they use it to move the paper, but that can easily be cut or not cut. The connectivity has been mostly reliable (every so often it will have a little trouble connecting, but it might be my old phone) The battery life is technically supposed to be able to last 20 prints, with some reports of 30. I haven't really tested this out, I generally top it up after using it. Hope this helps!

yeah sometimes I do wish there was an option for sticker paper. ive only had mine for like one month, but I've gone through like two boxes of film. I'm going back and doing a journal for my summer travels and printing out hella pics. sometimes charging can be annoying, and overheating. it is an inconvenience, but its small compared to how much enjoyment and value im getting from the printer. I found the best deal to be on amazon. you can get it for cheaper during prime deal time but I think that just passed

She’s had it for about 2 months (she took it with her on her trip), but we printed off a bunch before she left and some while over there. Been great so far!

I used to use an HP Sprocket and it was great but then I saw the photo quality of the Kodak Retro and the colors just seemed so much more vibrant! I have made the switch to Kodak Retro! I also priced it out and the Kodak refills are about half the price of the HP Zink paper.

I used to use an HP Sprocket with Zink paper. (pros: fast printing, sticker-back paper. cons: streaks sometimes visible, color leans kinda lavender) Then, I saw a friend using the Kodak Mini Retro and I switched over. (pros: colors are clearer, images sharper. con: needs an adhesive to stick into the journal, printing is slower due to the "4 pass" process) I am using the Kodak Retro for travel journaling now because color and sharpness are important to me. I wish it had the sticker back tho! I bring a tape runner with me, but I have had them run out while I was on a trip!

I have the kodak mini retro which I got in sale and while it does the job for me, the picture quality is inconsistent. I definitely need to print pictures that are brighter and have more contrast to look better once printed. But im not picky and the sticker sheets are often on sale on their website so for my budget, it does the job.

I second the Kodak Retro printers! I use the Kokuyo Dotliner tape glue and never had any trouble with my photos either.

I have the Kodak retro. Besides having issues with the app (which now seem to be resolved), the photo quality is good. The photo paper may be thicker than the sticky back photos.

This is what I use. It gets really bulky over time, so I started peeling the thicker backs off right after it prints for a thinner print.

Kodak 4pass and Instax printers are the play here, imo. Instax has mini and wide, and will look and feel more like retro polaroid prints. Kodak 4pass is a lot more affordable per print and probably the more sane option, but I really love Instax steeze.
