Efter att ha varit höggravid under en värmebölja med 38 grader i sovrummet på natten så får jag forfarande mer än 10 år senare dödsångest vid tanken... en portabel AC är guld värd bara för vetskapen att man kan köra i gång den om man behöver, att man har kontrollen och möjligheten att komma undan. Man kan köra den när man inte är hemma och veta att man kommer hem till svalka, eller några timmar innan man ska sova så att man iaf startar natten i ett svalt rum, eller så står man ut med bullret hellre än att dö av värmeslag. De är verkligen långt från tysta, och "portabel" bara på samma nivå som möbler är portabla. Man möblerar om och ställer den vid fönstret (den måste ha slang ut genom fönstret, och en hink brevid att samla vatten i ) när det blir för varmt att låta bli, och man möblerar om på hösten igen och gömmer den i hörnet bakom dörren. Man flyttar inte runt den mellan rummen varje kväll som vi trodde innan vi köpte vår.

En Electrolux som nu har rätt många år på nacken, men det säljs säkert nyare versioner av liknande modell. Tillägg, för att ha i ett normalt sovrum duger en svagare och förhoppningsvis billigare maskin. Vi försökte kyla en halv våning genom att sätta ACn i en hall utanför två sovrum med öppna dörrar... det fungerade inte jättebra för luften rörde sig inte som vi hoppades med den planlösningen vi har.

Portable AC's, even one exhaust pipe ones are good enough to chill even a 60m^2 apartment. I finally pulled the trigger on a cheaper one pipe portable AC ~449€ from a Gigantti sale few years ago. Should've bought one a decade ago. It does consume 100kWh of energy on average per WEEK for 3-4 months of the year by running it 24/7. It is quite loud so you couldn't keep it in your bedroom but mine is across the hall facing bedroom door and it does drop bedroom temp from 28-30C to ~23C by having the AC at 20C setting. But yeah, go for it if you aren't super super tight on cash. If you have a place to have a double pipe (intake, exhaust) portable AC, go for one of those. Edit: Edited kwh to per week.

I've bought an **AEG** ChillFlex Pro on Galaxus last year for around 400.-. Best purchase of the year. I have installed it just today and oh my god it's good. You just need to buy separately a kind of curtain to let pass through the tube and not let any heat get in. The one I bought is well enough my "office" room as I work from home. It also helps a lot when gaming. I can maintain 24-25° in the room while I would get up to 29-30° without an AC.

Yes.. I went for an AEG a couple of years ago. I didn’t fancy the zip up window seal, so ended up getting an acrylic window panel from these people : https://plasticsheetsshop.co.uk/applications/window-sealing-air-conditioner/ I sent them the dimensions for my window frame and where I wanted the exhaust hole to go. If I want to use it, I open up the side window, attach the acrylic panel to the frame using heavy duty velcro, and then push the aircon exhaust hose out of the hole. I measured it to be a close fit, to stop hot air coming back in. I also had to superglue some little plastic handles onto the panel so I can actually remove it again - the heavy duty velcro is pretty strong. Just wanted to mention another option.

I bought an AEG unit a couple of years ago and it was the best £300 I spent. Once it gets going it keeps my bedroom at a nice and cool 21C and I can turn it off using Alexa which in the middle of the night is really nice - although be aware most Aircon units do munch electricity. I have wondered when my gas boiler dies if it's more efficient to get a Bidirectional Heat Pump fitted to the house, bearing in mind most heat pump units are (very simplistically) Aircon units running backwards (so to speak) - one that gives me heating in the winter and then AC in the summer?

If you can buy Midea Duo PAC which is a dual hose portable ac definitely worth it. If not you can get an Electrolux(AEG) one and make it simply dual hose with a 3D printed back side. Split ACs are simply unbeatable. They could be also used for heating too. But the installation costs etc are not small in UK I believe. Mitsubishi, Daikin, Midea are great for split ACs. You can also dehumidify your house with ACs. I am not living in UK but I'm a renter so I have a PAC in my bed room but luckily my living room had a split AC. We have very bad humidity in the summer

We used to have a Meaco one from Costco within that price range, and that broke within a year. Since then we tried an AEG one which was terrible, and now have a De’Longhi Pinguino. It looks like Currys have a couple near your price range. We also have a still working De’Longhi dehumidifier which is probably old enough to vote, and so while now I’ve praised them on the internet I’m sure they’ll both break immediately, I have some faith in the brand. Would definitely suggest considering spending a little extra on one of the Pinguinos if you can.
