davus_maximus 1.0I got a freestanding Ariston unit and shoved the hot exhaust up the disused fireplace. It works well. They're loud and that's not great for sleeping next to, but they all have a dehumidifier mode that helps dry clothes indoors in winter, keeping mould down. Buy the biggest cooling capacity you can. Mine's 9000btu and uses about 900w. It's JUST enough for our master bedroom, but probably great if you don't have high Victorian ceilings. I'd rather have a fully fitted system but this is great while I save up.
