I got this [Black+decker](https://x.com/BestToBuyDeals/status/1937561516699496936) portable AC to help cool my toddler’s bedroom during the warmer months. I already had a larger unit from the same brand that I’ve used for years, so I figured I’d stick with what’s worked. This smaller model has done a good job for a small room, it cools the space down fairly quickly and keeps the temperature stable, which is important for a child’s room. It’s not silent, but the noise level is reasonable and hasn’t bothered her sleep. No major complaints so far,it does what I expected and has been a helpful addition during hot days.

Our HVAC is fairly reliable but we have a couple of the home grade free standing portable AC units as a backup in case of emergency. Something like this: [https://www.amazon.com/Black-Decker-Portable-Conditioner-Display/dp/B01DLPUWHQ?th=1](https://www.amazon.com/Black-Decker-Portable-Conditioner-Display/dp/B01DLPUWHQ?th=1) We have several temperature probes throughout the server room that we use to alert us to HVAC issues. We only use the backup AC units during emergencies. Exhausting the heat is usually the main issue. We usually exhaust the heat out through the door to the data center, or in a pinch into the drop ceiling. Neither are ideal but we usually only need to use them for a brief period of time.

Currently using a Black and Decker portable model. I see it [suggested on Reddit fairly often](https://www.reddit.com/r/NewYorkLife/comments/1ee3ia8/the_best_portable_air_conditioner_in_2025_is_the/), so grabbed it a few months back. Works really great so far!

I bought a Black & Decker unit from Facebook Marketplace for $200. It seems to work well but is kind of loud.
