Midea DUO unit (or equivalent under another brand) is the best on the market. Black & Decker uses Midea or Gree just like everyone else. Have never seen a Dreo in the US but willing to bet it’s made in China by Midea/Gree. GE/Haier (China) make their own but not fond of anything they make. LG made in Korea but it’s crap. My Black and Decker units have been solid. I think the draining is only if you use them as a dehumidifier. I've had them for years and never had to drain them.
The only maintenance is the cleaning the filter each year.
Swap the window fan so it pushes are out of the window instead of pulling it in. And put it on the top half of your window. It’ll create a vacuum in your bedroom pushing the hot air out from above, pulling the cold air in. Just for a temporary solution because east coast is hot as balls rn.
I have the black and decker portable ac and it’s ok. A bit loud, and my electricity bill takes a hit. But it does a good job. Window units are apparently more energy efficient than the portable ones. Just something to consider when thinking of price.
