I have attached a picture below (taken from one of the videos) and highlighted the opening in red. has anyone used dual hose portable ac that are designed this way? if yes, what are the pros and cons? is it best to find another dual hose portable ac that only uses the outside air to cool the compressor and internal parts of the ac without also using some of the indoor air?... Edit: i'm aware that most window ac units are more efficient than portable ac units. I just have sliding windows at my place and would prefer to get a portable ac. i've also read that portable ac with dual-hose and inverter compressors can have pretty good efficiency. https://preview.redd.it/82a0zmpa9chf1.png?width=1496&format=png&auto=webp&s=c4c81f07f1bfc494daa0b56f6b93990dc171df73
I got one from Gasbye on Amazon. It works ok, but the indoor air temperature sensor is kind of close to where the exhaust hose connects, which makes the compressor not slow down (or turn off) properly when the target temperature has been reached. Putting a small fan a low speed to move air being the ac, and adding a cover on the exhaust hose tube, helps mitigate this issue a bit.
I’ve got Gasbye dual hose 14000BTU on Amazon and I’m very happy with it it’s quiet and powerful and removes humidity better than any one the other units I’ve tried the Midea duo the Hisense tower and those ones were far worse dealing with humidity when I tested 10% lower humidity. It has solid 5 star reviews too.
https://a.co/d/41lYmOW I have one of these in my room put it in inverter mode and it will gently ramp up and down to maintain temperature
We just got the Gasbye dual hose 14,000 BTU portable ac and it's been great. It's pretty quiet and turbo mode keeps a hot rv in direct east and western sun in central texas at 75 degrees. Inverter at night mode cuts the noise and power but still keeps it cool at night. Customer service is quick to respond and offer to replace it immediately if damaged during shipping (plus offers up to 4 years warranty) so far I'm happy. Especially since it's 500 plus dollar purchase
I decided to go with the Gasbye myself, even with the lesser amount of reviews because it’s supposed to be cheaper to run overall. I had my brother in law look into both of them since he’s installed commercial HVAC for the past 20 yrs so figured he knew what to ask and look for. Both are Manufactured in China. Whynter is an American company but their machines are made in China. Gasbye also made in China by TCL-Delonghi (a joint venture by two of China’s biggest companies). The Whynter arc-1230wn has a 11.03 EER, the arc-14s (their older duel hose with two actual separate hoses instead of a giant split hose of the 1230wn). has a 11.2 so both are pretty good. EER of the Gasbye 14000btu is 13.6 so as far as that goes in my opinion the Gasbye won. The Whynter arc-14s came out around 2017, and he couldn’t get the actual year nailed down for the 1230wn. One person told him 2020, two said 2021 and another 2022. The Gasbye was released spring of 2024 and upgraded again this year. The upgrades were to the hose/window kit. I decided to go with the one that would cost me the least per month. It’s for my gecko’s room lol. She can’t have temps below 74F or over 85F during the day (high 60s to 70 at night) so I will basically set it for 74 during the day and off at night. It’s nice since where I live in WA state even if it gets 90-100 during the day in the summer our nights always drop to between the 60s and 70 so it’s perfect.
I went with the Gasbye for the cost of running it. The single hose models are way more expensive to run a way less efficient. The 14000 I bought is way overkill in my roughly 160sq ft gecko room that I keep at 72F during the day. I was able to run it on inverter mode all day today when it was in the mid 80s and it kept it perfectly between 70-72 with very little effort and was super quiet. It’s actually pretty quiet when in auto mode the day as well but I found auto mode was keeping the room too cool.
