Hisense is the way. I’ve had both the Midea and Hisense, and way prefer Hisense.
This one is the best one: https://www.costco.com/p/-/hisense-8000-btu-dual-hose-portable-tower-air-conditioner/4000346410?langId=-1 Trust me. Ive owned so many portable ACs (including the Midea that folks around here recommend). This Hisense is slightly less powerful on paper, but will easily cool a small-medium room. It’s also quieter than the Midea, doesn’t shake like the Midea does, and the hose system is much less cumbersome than the Midea.
Not getting a dime to say this and am not affiliated with Hisense in any way, just hoping to help someone else who also has the misfortune of only being able to use portable air conditioners. This is it. This is the one. I’ve been through so many, and they are all terrible in their own unique ways. First things first, it’s enormous. It looks like a monolith standing in the room. The picture doesn’t really even do justice to how big it is. Despite that, its actual footprint is small. It’s also silent and strong. I live in a top floor condo with a south facing bedroom, so it BAKES in there on a hot summer day. This thing cools the room quickly and makes less noise than a fan or air purifier. You can barely even tell when the compressor cycles on. It really is that quiet. Also, the hoses and window kit are way better designed and easier to assemble than the Midea Duo. I’m not sure if this is true for everyone, but my Midea thunked loudly when the compressor cycled on/off, and would also randomly make annoying beeps. So glad that I got rid of it for this Hisense tower. Aside from its size, weight, and cost, I can’t think of any negatives with this machine. I bought from Costco and the model number is HIAP0825TWD. It might have a slightly different model number at other retailers, I’m not sure.
This is prob irrelevant to what you’re saying, but I chose this model over the more traditionally shaped Hisense dual hose because it offers a “continuous fan” mode for uninterrupted sleep which was super important to me. I don’t think the other Hisense models have that feature
I feel like a shill I recommend this so much, but take it from me. I also am cursed with horizontal sliding windows, and live in a 4th floor condo, so traditional window ACs are not an option for me. I’ve tried soooo many portables over the years. This is BY FAR the best one: https://www.costco.com/p/-/hisense-8000-btu-dual-hose-portable-tower-air-conditioner/4000346410?langId=-1 It is insanely quiet- just emits a low steady hum, no rattling or shaking or buzzing. It’s a better machine than the Midea Duo that usually gets recommended around here, but newer to the market so it hasn’t caught on as much as that one has.
What’s your budget? I’ve used many portable air conditioners over the past ten years, and this one is by FAR the best https://www.costco.com/hisense-8000-btu-dual-hose-portable-tower-air-conditioner.product.4000346410.html
Got the same model for my sunroom out back, worked really well in the space (small corner area next to a door). Fantastic unit. Keeps an ez breeze sunroom comfortable when spending time out there in the summer, comfortable in the winter.
I used this exact AC for a couple months last year and I didn't have to drain it even once. You only need to drain if the humidity is too high or you use the heat pump functionality.
I had the exact one for a year and returned it. It never really worked properly. Maybe I got a lemon but I exchanged it to the Midea 14000 BTU and no complaints
I'm living in a Chevrolet Express parked in a driveway in Florida right now and I'm using this. I vent the hoses out the drivers side window. I was pretty upset when it arrived because I didn't realize how large and heavy it would be. I almost returned it for something smaller but I needed air conditioning right away so I kept it. It's working well in 90 degree heat and high humidity. My van is insulated with 1 inch XPS foam and I turn it on about once an hour.
just got this two weeks ago and it’s been great and so quiet! great for our room and that’s the only thing that is necessary for us to be cool at night
