Well, I bought the Hisense for our sunroom from Lowe’s. I’m in Middle Midwest US. It’s a heat pump/AC combo. The first one @ 1 day old just put out 90* heat and the AC compressor kicked on and off nonstop and never actually cooled the room. Fast forward 4 days and The second one sounds like a dying whale it cools but the room is never below 76-77* and never shuts off. I’m going to take it back to Lowe’s, and I’ll just install a mini split myself.

I have a dual hose hisense that I got from costco. I drain it from time to time but outside that, it doesnt really say any other maintance, there is no removable filter. sometimes it smells when it first turns on, is that something I can clean or fix?
A window unit will be way better than any portable unit on the market. That being said if you can only do a portable make sure it's a DUAL HOSE model!! They're the only portables worth purchasing. If you have a Costco membership they have a Hisense & Midea model and both are solid dual hose options.
I've got a Hisense dual hose that worked pretty well and is decently quiet for a portable. Your biggest thing Is get a dual hose for efficiency, single hose units don't work nearly as well. If you have a Costco membership, they have an inverter driven Hisense that should be even quieter.
Most if not all portable ACs fling the condensate on the hot coil & send it outside as a vapor so drainage shouldn't be a big issue. What you need to look for is a dual hose model, they're more efficient and usually a bit quieter as well. I've got a dual hose hisense from Costco that cools my bedroom well even in the intense AZ heat. I know they usually have the Midea duo and I've heard nothing but good about it. Most of the portable ACs on the market are only made by a handful of companies with Gree & Midea being the big ones with Hisense & LG having a smaller share. Hell my Hisense has a GMCC compressor which is a Midea subsidiary
I bought a hisense dual hose from costco. It may not be as efficient as a window unit but so easy to install and overall does a great job
yeah, in my opinion the single hose ones should be illegal. They literally blow conditioned air out of your window. Fair disclosure, I'm an engineer at a commercial HVAC manufacturer. But in my home I have 3 Hisense dual hose portable ACs I got refurbished on Amazon for $230 or so each. They're worth every penny. I used to have a single hose unit a friend gave me and I just don't use it anymore. Loud and slow and can't keep even a small room cool in the heat where I live.
