I have an LG portable unit in the living room, connected to the kitchen. It’s a 12K btu and works great for that area. I need it cool and quiet for the bedroom. 3 years ago, I got a Midea U window unit, think its 8K BTU. It is the best, hands done. Very quiet, as it’s a DC operated fan. It has 0-100 % speed control. At 10% and on low cool, you can barely hear it.

I don’t know if this helps, but when my house’s central AC went out during one of those heat waves, I bought a 12,000 BTU portable AC on Facebook Marketplace. I was looking for a reputable brand, so I got an LG. I paid $250, and it worked flawlessly. I expected it would only cool one bedroom, but it was powerful enough to cool the entire floor (we used some floor fans to move air from room to room). The only downside was that it produced so much condensation that I had to wake up at midnight to empty a 2-gallon bucket of water. After two weeks, when my central AC was fixed, I sold it for the same price on Facebook.

We bought [this LG unit](https://www.homedepot.ca/product/lg-electronics-8-000-btu-sacc-12-000-btu-ashrae-portable-air-conditioner/1001899686) for my mother who does not believe in air conditioning. Worked like a charm and cooled a bigger area then they stated. Quiet enough too.
