Be careful with Meaco... We have 2 of their fans, and a small dehumidifier - all of which work great. However the MeacoCool 16000BTU Portable Air conditioner we bought in 2025 is now on its second replacement... its not even been a year since original purchase. The first one leaked... had to stick it in a kids paddling pool whilst running it and waiting for them to sort return/replacement. The second lasted for the summer of 2025, but when I stuck it on in early May 2026 - it stopped conditioning the air. The unit was blowing out the same heat as the exhaust - despite making all the normal noises of the compressor / condenser being on... sent back for repair. They couldn't repair it, so sent us our third unit in under 12 months. Fingers crossed...

Have a meacocool for a fair few years. Has lasted well through several heat waves. It is loud but that is more bearable than the heat. However my wife complains about being "too cold" with it on during heatwaves so I can't bloody win

You can usually hack a single hose into a dual hose: https://www.woolie.co.uk/article/convert-ac-from-single-hose-to-dual-hose/ I have done this with my Meaco Cool and a 3d printed adaptor.

I have a meaco one too. It isn't perfect, but it definitely gets our attic bedroom down to a liveable temperature

I run a food pantry and we use a Meako portable air conditioner to keep the room at about 18C as it has one wall of windows and until 12pm has the sun on it. We are able to vent it through the wall, but only warm air comes out of the vent, cold air goes out into the room and keeps it nicely cool.  The room is 5m x 4m and about 3m high, pretty poorly insulated - the windows are all single glazed. If I put that unit in my bedroom it would be like a fridge in there.

They’re all shit. But they can do the job for chilling a space through the worst weather and cooling the bedroom before sleeping. Portable aircons near-universally have a basic on/off compressor, and you **will** notice it kicking on and off, no matter how quiet they claim to be. The hoses are a pain in the arse to deal with. They’re also why portable aircons are inefficient: some indoor air is being heated and dumped outside, so you’ll suck some outdoor air back in to the space. Instead of having a separate cold and hot side. If you’re going to be using it a lot, look at dedicated mini-split systems. They cost more, but they’re **a lot** more efficient, and you’ll be dealing with far less annoying noise indoors. If you’re going to be using it occasionally, just pick a decent portable from a known brand. There’s not much point in spending on something premium with more features, although bigger units will have more cooling power and will be able to cool a space quicker. I’m happy with my Meaco, but I bought it expecting that the hose would be annoying and that I’d be unable to run it while I’m asleep.
