"We have a large 14000btu whynter portable ac in the garage. Its fully insulated and no windows. Works well to keep the space below 80 and around 50% humidity on most days."
"making it less humid"
"I use both hoses and don't have a problem with humidity."

"My Meaco costs about £1.5 a day (it runs 15 minutes per hour from 7am to 10pm), and considering we have maybe 10 proper heatwave days per month, and only 3 months of summer where these heatwaves can happen, that's totally worth it."
"I run mine 15 minutes per hour from 7am to 10pm. Then outside temperatures tend to drop below inside temperatures. You don't have to have it on literally all day for it to work. I think I've paid maybe £10 so far this summer to not feel the heatwaves at all."

"the kit with outs is like a big Velcro on sock with zips so you can really fit it to the window. ... Our window opens outward but vertically but there’s a massive amount of excess material that I’m fairly certain it could fit all sorts of combos of shape."
"It came with two different window kits, so hopefully one of them will work."

"it works really well ... it got delivred a couple of days prior to that big heatwave where it was 40 deg.C; we al slept really well in the cool"
"it's absolutely transformed my summer sleep quality."
"We can chill the room to a temperature that I need the duvet and jammies to sleep in a heat wave."

"I have a Meaco 8000 portable unit and it's a god send for the bedroom. ... Stick it on for a couple of hours and it brings the temp down in peak summer from about 30 to 18 degrees."

"Essential for the hot summers we have now. ... And essential for me. I work in a 2x3m hand build (and very well insulated) garden office. Once the ambient temperature is high, I'm sweating in there. It's bliss with it on."

"had amazingly cold air blowing out the front for around 30 seconds, then it sounded like the compressor kicked in, and it completely reversed, with hot air coming out the front, and the cold air going out the window. Repeatable every single time."
"Consider upgrading the 'exhaust' pipe to an insulated duct pipe. It's not pretty but the standard plastic pipe gets really hot and acts like a little radiator."
"Once you switch it off your room will likely heat up again pretty quickly."

"They're loud as hell (~65dB) but that's typically preferable to melting. ... it's loud as hell which is normal for these units, but it's ALWAYS loud, it doesn't have a not-loud mode like my old (but now dead) unit had. Even fan-only mode is still really loud for some reason so it just seems like bad fan design, it's not the actual AC part of it that is loud. ... I have this same one. The main issue is the fact that they are LOUD AS FUCK."
"Loud as hell. ... Ditto works really well, but loud as hell."
"Noisy bet pretty effective. ... doubt you could sleep with it on unless you are used to 747 on take off levels of noise."

"We used to have a Meaco one from Costco within that price range, and that broke within a year."

"It creates a negative pressure, which draws in outside air through openings in the apartment/house. ... It still cools of the air inside, but this does lower the effective cooling a bit."
"It didn't really work that well. ... You could only really feel the coolness directly in the breeze"
Nabbed one from them on a Black Friday deal a couple of years ago and it's absolutely transformed my summer sleep quality. Having solar panels on the house also minimises the energy costs beyond a quick burst in the evening to cool the room before going to bed.
r/CasualUK • Why didn’t anyone tell me how compact and effective these portable air conditioners are? Why was I suffering through the last heat wave 💀 ->If that's a meaco you can 3d print an adapter and add a second hose to make it more effective https://vm.tiktok.com/ZNdH85QtD/

r/AskUK • Can someone please help me find a portable air con that works? I have Cancer and the room in my nursing home is unbearably hot. ->I've got a Meaco dehumidifier and now a Meaco AC, my Meaco collection is growing. Is that the stream deck buttons next to your keyboard? Can you provide a link to that digital time thingy you have on your desk.

Essential for the hot summers we have now. And essential for me. I work in a 2x3m hand build (and very well insulated) garden office. Once the ambient temperature is high, I'm sweating in there. It's bliss with it on. Bring it into the back bedroom some nights too. It's a good send. It's noisy though. Sleeping with it on isn't the easiest
r/CasualUK • who here owns a portable air conditioning unit, are they worth the money? ->My Meaco costs about £1.5 a day (it runs 15 minutes per hour from 7am to 10pm), and considering we have maybe 10 proper heatwave days per month, and only 3 months of summer where these heatwaves can happen, that's totally worth it.

r/CasualUK • Why didn’t anyone tell me how compact and effective these portable air conditioners are? Why was I suffering through the last heat wave 💀 ->I bought one of these about 4 years ago. A mecco one. It was really noisy and a pain to get the hose out of the room. It didn't really work that well. You could only really feel the coolness directly in the breeze which was very blowy and had no option to make it gentler. No I have I stalled proper air con with an outside unit and the inside units attached to the wall. But I can't get it in all the rooms in the house. They are 100 times better than the portable one I bought 4 years ago. You can barely hear it and it's freezing cold in the winter and warms up a room really fast in the summer. Have portable ones gotten better and quieter? Id still be interested in buying one to fill the gap in the house i have.

We're getting our loft converted soon and I'm seriously considering getting a split unit installed.
r/AskUK • Do you have air conditioning? Is it worth it? ->So I ordered a 8k btu unit which seems to be a decent one, not sure on room temp as dont have a thermometer currently may get one would help but im gonna estimate when its hot hot it can get up to like 25 Celsius in my room if im gaming and its like high teens outside or 20s? The room door is closed usually as its a shared house so ventilation is only through my window and my current portable fan hence me sweating like im in a oven 😆 I was going to go 9000 but a lot of calculators even with my pc outputting a max of 850 watts which it probably wont around 7 to 8k is what I've been told. Just don't want to obviously be wrong aha
r/AirConditioners • Recommended BTU for my small room with a gaming pc ->This is what i went for if youre curious https://aircareappliances.co.uk/products/meacocool-mc-series-pro-8000-btu-portable-air-conditioner?variant=48238877671767&country=GB¤cy=GBP&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&srsltid=AfmBOorLbO75YAXdnDBWXfbnw5SjUxeqtJlsFewt_IWdoZcBlJ7ruO-I7ME&gQT=2
r/AirConditioners • Recommended BTU for my small room with a gaming pc ->>ProBreeze Check their price right now. This one is Meaco which is usually considered a better brand (I have Probreeze bought for £150 on sale). Maybe less noise as this one is 52 dB.
