"I had emails with them back and forth about the smell, assuming that it was covered under the warranty. They were not very helpful. In fact they were very dismissive and told me to get someone to clean it (almost as expensive as the air conditioner) or clean it myself (which I believe would void the warranty)"
"Support was crap. ... Just said “it has to have a drain hose connected when running in dry mode” even though I told them repeatedly it was not in dry mode. ... It was in “cool mode” which isn’t even mentioned in the generic users manual."
"Unfortunately did not install mine until after the Amazon return window ended and I had collapsed the box. I had emails with them back and forth about the smell, assuming that it was covered under the warranty. They were not very helpful. In fact they were very dismissive and told me to get someone to clean it (almost as expensive as the air conditioner) or clean it myself (which I believe would void the warranty) so I used the wick trick to drain water from the a/c and purchased an extended warranty. ... I don't understand why they would have created an AC that didn't drain. ... My brother has two of them, one of which is full of mold"

"it got full of mold in 6 months ... I tried to remove the casing to clean the mold but it’s just in a really inaccessible spot deep in the cold air vent."

"I returned it because the hose is just so big and very awkward to get into a window."

"The other one had its hose cracked after 2 summers."
I have three Midea inverter portable units that actually keep a 1400 square foot house cool. The dual hose set up is kind of weird, but it works. They are all incredibly energy efficient. They are also pretty expensive. I got a couple of them used and one much cheaper than everywhere else at Costco. One of the best things about them is, once they cool things down, they ramp down and run really quiet.
I have 3 Midea inverter portables. One is a 10,000btu in a small bedroom of 110 sq ft or so. Even the bigger 14,000btu unit I have in a master, while technically too big works. This is because the inverter units scale to need. Once the room is at temp it will barely run to maintain temp, or just shut down for a while. The only issue is the particular design of the dual hose. It is stiff and the unit does not turn very well or at all. There is also stress on the window filler piece because the hose is so heavy. There are some other brands that have actual two separate hose designs. Hisense makes one in a 8000btu size.
I’ve purchased a couple of Midea 10k smart inverter units and have had no issues so far. Time will tell how long they last though.
I got a Midea 10kBTU it's literally the best my apartment is 1,050sq it makes my whole place cold I love it so much
Dual or concentric hose models are the best bet. Inverter is good for noise. I have a midea inverter, with concentric hose that is great
I just put the Midea back in the window over the weekend, though it's the more expensive one Costco sold in 2023 with the heater. It's a bit loud when the condenser kicks in depending on mode but did the job. Had a second Midea like the one you linked last summer and the Dry function didn't work. Called Midea and they said to take it back to Costco and get my money back, no questions asked. What's your room size? One is 12,000 and the other is only 8,000. You don't want it too big for your room.
I got this same unit for the same price, but mine has this constant rattle sound. Does anyone have any experience with this and have a way to fix it? I'd rather not return it because frankly it was a huge pain in the ass to get home.
Got the same one from costco and makes gaming in my upstairs office cool during the hottest days of summer! And no water drain!!!
350? Shit this unit was like 450 at my Costco. Returned for a swamp cooler, its colorado so swamp cooler works wonders.
