Best is split unit installed by profissional. (~1500€ or more) Second best is dual duct one, e.g. Midea MPPT. (~900€) Third best is any cheap ac unit on the balcony with cold air duckted inside. Last and worst option is any cheap ac unit installed by instructions.
r/Finland • Which air conditioner ? ->Hi there! I have a lightly used, two-year-old Midea 12k BTU-dual hose AC unit that I’m looking to sell. Works great, we just recently moved and don’t need it anymore. Feel free to message me if you’re interested! I can send you the listing.
r/askportland • What portable AC unit brands or models do you recommend? ->No air conditioner is going to be particularly energy efficient but new ones are as good as they can be. If you have vertically-sliding windows then a window unit is definitely the best way to go. The U-shaped ones are best because you don't need to install brackets on the outside of the building. If you have horizontal-sliding windows then you'll need a portable AC unit, preferably a dual-hose model. The two best dual-hose brands are Midea and Toshiba. They're more expensive than window units but absolutely worth it in the middle of August.
r/askportland • Anyone have air conditioner recos? ->YSK about these things: in general they're not the most efficient choice. (I know you may be stuck with this, but here's the tech.) The whole works sits inside the room, including the "hot side" of the mechanism (compressor, heat radiating coils etc.) That heat ends up radiating into the room, so you're recooling the heat the unit creates. (That's why window a/c's put the hot side outdoors.) There's also two kinds, single-hose and double-hose. Single-hose pulls air from the room, cools it, and blows the hot air outdoors, so part of the room air you've just cooled gets dumped outside. Dual-hose pulls air from the outside to cool the compressor and heat coils then dumps it outdoors, and a separate airflow pulls air from the room, cools it and blows back in the room. Finally, almost all of these have to be drained of condensate, although some evaporate the water and blow it outside with the hot air. I did a f/kton of research, and you might consider the Midea dual-hose models. They use a variable speed DC inverter-compressor which only runs as fast as it needs to, also quieter than most. As has been said here, not the cheapest but may be worth it in the longer run.
r/RhodeIsland • Portable AC unit… ->If you can do a window U shape that’s your best option. Next would be a portable but please get a two hose unit. The Midea hose within a hose one is quite popular. These allow for your internal pressures to be normalized as a single hose unit will cause negative pressure in your apt General consensus that I agree with is get a unit for each room, make sure they are sized appropriately for the room. Don’t get a huge unit for a small room as it will just cycle a lot. I have a lot of computer and electronics gear so I go like one size bigger than “needed” and that seems to work well for me so do consider that when sizing your units Get circulator fans, especially if no ceiling fans present. They help move the air around and stop hot spots from forming and give you a more balanced temp. Standing fans or any other fans are also good to have as a breeze across the face just makes you feel better.
r/AirConditioners • New apartment doesn't allow traditional window ACs. Good alternatives? ->Get a dual hose unit for sure. Its higher cost is made up in efficiency. I cant tell you about each models maintenance needs though they all have quirks in their design. I like Mideas hose in a hose design but theyre around $500. I have at least 5 portable ACs in storage, I collect them from thrift stores then maybe use em for awhile, then resell them. Portable ACs in general especially single hose ones, are really inefficient appliances. Almost all of them need extensive disassembly to clean dust buildup out of. If you have access to a good air compressor or powerful leaf blower you can keep on top of it by blowing out much of the dirt as it builds up. Do not overspeed the blower wheel when blowing it out, I like to stick a coat hanger in it to fix it in place. (They can fly apart at high speed) Having a good assortment of cleaning brushes helps a lot too. I do like my ACs to be clean! First thing I did when I recently moved into an apartment was spend a couple hours thoroughly going through the window unit it came with.
r/AirConditioners • Portable AC Unit that's EASY to MAINTAIN ->I bought the biggest stand up portable one from Costco like maybe a month ago for $450. Midea 12000 btu. It has a bunch of features, but it's different in that it has 2 hoses built into 1 that divides the hot air from the cold air. Because of this it cools a decent size room in minutes. I even set it up on a sliding glass door with a lil extra rigging. It's just the giant hose that can be weird looking. It's fairly quiet but if you have the fan on high it can be a lil loud. Highly recommend it. It has the release drain valve for water (condensation), but this one works more like a fridge. I've left it on over 24/hr at 78F and no water drained out. Every time I check no water to drain after about a month. I haven't tried the dry cool mode and that one recommends using a hose for the drain plug.
r/Hawaii • Anyone use a portable AC? The heat is unbearable lately. ->Yeah, those are not ultra efficient but they work, I had it for the last 3 summers including this and works great! Also it was cheap in that time, 312 EUR (Midea, 12000BTU). I used a plastic adapter to cover the window, of course close the cortins and close the other room doors to increase efficiency. My electric bill had no changes I don't turn it in all the days, just when it is 30+ outside (like today). And my cats are now safe! (First summer one of my cats throw up because of the heat)
r/germany • Are there actually any portable a.c units that don't suck? ->I have the same combination and it works, it's not ultra efficient but you don't need to turn it on all days.
r/germany • Are there actually any portable a.c units that don't suck? ->have the same one, bought at Sam's in July. cools my room from 90f to about 80f if the sun is blasting, around 75f if it's cloudy. Can get lower once the sun is down. It's pricier, but definitely can recommend the Midea 12000BTU.
r/Hawaii • Anyone use a portable AC? The heat is unbearable lately. ->It’s a pretty small space. Put a fan blowing into the bedroom with a dual hose 12000 btu portable (Midea duo) and it will do fine. Probably better to put a window unit in if you can though.
r/AirConditioners • Can a portable AC placed at the star cool the bedroom? ->100 off until 6/15, I bought mine from last year, it got me through last summer. You probably want to get it before sale end, summer is already here. costco also have a 8000btu dual hose Hisense for 280? it’s smaller and lighter, not sure about the power consumption. This 12000btu AC pulls 1400w at maximum power I use latex rubber hose for drain. I think I’m going to dock at an EV charger to charge my 20kwh power stations/batteries.
r/urbancarliving • [no build] Costco $350 midea 12000btu portable AC, best bang for your buck ->I just bought one ironically. I have a 3-car garage that faces the afternoon sun. Bought a 12000BTU AC from Costco and it can’t really keep up, but does a good enough job bringing it down to around 82f. The problem is that it’s drawing 14A and I have only one circuit to my garage so bigger is not an option without doing some electrical work
r/orlando • Anyone have a portable AC in their garage? ->Have both of these... The 8k Hisense has a quiet mode that slows down the fan. If your room is borderline too big for 8k it may not be able to keep temp in this mode but it is genuinely quiet. The 12k Midea does not have this mode. In addition, when the inverter kicks on it really is quite the kick. It's also a bit bassy while it's spooling up. If you are a light sleeper it will wake you up.
r/Costco • Comparing the Midea vs Hisense portable AC units? ->I got this same unit for the same price, but mine has this constant rattle sound. Does anyone have any experience with this and have a way to fix it? I'd rather not return it because frankly it was a huge pain in the ass to get home.
r/AirConditioners • Midea portable AC at Costco $350, is it good? ->I have it in my living room right now with vaulted ceilings. Keeps it 72 at 100 degrees outside so far
r/AirConditioners • Midea portable AC at Costco $350, is it good? ->Ive been using it for few days and honestly it is mindblowing... very quite
r/AirConditioners • Midea portable AC at Costco $350, is it good? ->I have this to cool my living room, dining room, and kitchen. There are no doors between these rooms so it works great. Each bedroom has the midea U (except for the 4 year old, she just gets an el cheapo unit that only runs for a couple hours at bedtime)
r/AirConditioners • Midea portable AC at Costco $350, is it good?
->I paid $450 for it. It's been running throughout the day in 90F degree. Able to keep my room (110sqft) steady at 75F. Electricity average around $2/day. Worth it.
r/AirConditioners • Midea portable AC at Costco $350, is it good? ->For 1 room its good. Don't get ambitious tho. That thing don't do shit in a living room.
r/AirConditioners • Midea portable AC at Costco $350, is it good? ->Midea. It’s awesome! Expensive but portable and awesome.
A fürdőben lévő szellőzőn keresztül lehozta a cigiszagot a felsőszomszédtól aki bent bagózott a lakásban.
->I am using a Toshiba and a Midea in the house. Toshiba must be a subsidiary of Midea because the Midea Smart Home app can recognize and control the Toshiba portable unit as well. I use the app to control the units remotely.
r/AirConditioners • Best Smart Portable AC Unit? ->It keeps our small bedroom cool but it got full of mold in 6 months. I tried to remove the casing to clean the mold but it’s just in a really inaccessible spot deep in the cold air vent.
r/AirConditioners • Midea portable AC at Costco $350, is it good?
->I bought one a few months ago and it’s great
r/AirConditioners • Midea portable AC at Costco $350, is it good? ->I have a portable AC from Midea. Bought it for $500 from Sam’s club, cut a hole in the bottom of my garage door and made it clip in there. I live in South Fl so the garage gets super hot, with this running I can get the whole garage down the low 70’s maybe 68,69 with a fan helping blow it around. I don’t use it all the time so I also made a piece of wood as a block off so I can take the exhaust hose off and close up the hole I made. Haven’t insulated the door yet but it’s on my list to do lol.
r/orlando • Anyone have a portable AC in their garage? ->I love my Midea so much better than the onboard one. It only draws about 750 watts when on full blast, and my understanding is that it only fires up its compressor when the outdoor temperature is warm. I like that it gently “rolls” up the fan to higher intensity. The downside is that it has a tough time cooling my 27 foot TT when it gets into the upper 80s or 90s. Then I have to run my on board and the Midea. I get so frustrated with my 1600 watt onboard unit that is super loud and has to run its compressor and fan just to maintain a few degrees below outdoors. Not to mention my inverter gets very hot running close to 2.0k. Another downside is that the Midea is a pain to take out of the window if you move, but I’m parked. Don’t buy those trash hose ones. They’re very inefficient and can’t dump the heat very well. I’ve tried them and I’m lucky if they can drop the camper 10 degrees after hours of operation.
r/RVLiving • Portable Air Conditioners ->We have Mideas! I'm in the suburbs on a fairly quiet street, so I don't know if I can say definitively if the sound is less than a typical a/c, but I'd imagine it's less. It's a great a/c unit regardless, it runs so much quieter than a regular one. If I'm doing a quick audition I'll leave it on (I turn it off for paid gigs), which I could never do with our old a/c units. I would think you could throw some insulation blankets over it if it feels like it's too loud. Good luck -- stay cool!
r/voiceover • Midea air conditioner ->Unfortunately did not install mine until after the Amazon return window ended and I had collapsed the box. I had emails with them back and forth about the smell, assuming that it was covered under the warranty. They were not very helpful. In fact they were very dismissive and told me to get someone to clean it (almost as expensive as the air conditioner) or clean it myself (which I believe would void the warranty) so I used the wick trick to drain water from the a/c and purchased an extended warranty.
r/AirConditioners • Midea portable AC at Costco $350, is it good? ->I do have a Costco membership now. Costco is so much easier to deal with than Amazon. A much better company. I would never spend that much money on anything at Amazon ever again!! I just sent an email for my refund and forwarded my support communication along with it. I doubt I can get my extended warranty refunded.
r/AirConditioners • Midea portable AC at Costco $350, is it good? ->I used to have 2 of these. 1 never cooled right out of the box. The other one had its hose cracked after 2 summers. Would I buy another? No. But it may work out ok for you so ymmv.
r/AirConditioners • Midea portable AC at Costco $350, is it good? ->Yes, I returned it because the hose is just so big and very awkward to get into a window. That’s the only drawback I think. I have four of the Midea U-shape units and overall I prefer those.
r/AirConditioners • Midea portable AC at Costco $350, is it good? ->Bought one 2 days ago. Works good but makes a terrible high frequency sound and I have to run the fan on high to drown it out. So be warned.
r/AirConditioners • Midea portable AC at Costco $350, is it good? ->I just got this same unit, it was keeping our living room a real nice 75 degrees, on some 95 degree outside days...this was about a week long stint...but today it will NOT get COLD, and room temp is going up and up. Pretty bummed because its a nice unit, quiet, powerful when it was working.
r/AirConditioners • Midea portable AC at Costco $350, is it good? ->Looks to be the same model except in white. It's a very good deal. If your only option is a portable AC, this model is the second best model you can get. The only thing better is the same device which comes with a heat pump. The same machine (rebranded as Toshiba) is also sold at Home Depot and can be cheaper sometimes though not as cheap as the current deal.
r/AirConditioners • Midea portable AC at Costco $350, is it good? ->Had great success with their window units. They really pump and are some of the quietest ones available. I have these 2 of these exact portable units and one fills up with condensation and has to be drained every 15 minutes. I ended up having to jury rig a constant drain hose to it and it works fine but I’ve never had to do that with a portable before. Support was crap. Just said “it has to have a drain hose connected when running in dry mode” even though I told them repeatedly it was not in dry mode. It was in “cool mode” which isn’t even mentioned in the generic users manual. Honestly I’d avoid this portable unit and get something else. If a window unit is an option I found both their traditional and u shaped window units to be fantastic.
r/AirConditioners • Midea portable AC at Costco $350, is it good? ->Yes I put this in my rental property and it works wonderfully
r/AirConditioners • Midea portable AC at Costco $350, is it good? ->I have this one! Although I paid 2x (in CAD). It works great for my 450sqft apartment and I've had it for 2 years now.
