"I love this AC unit, it’s amazing! ... It’s currently 73 degrees inside the room where we put it, but it’s 84 degrees outside the house. ... It could be even colder in here (the machine is capable of that), but we don’t want to feel too cold, LOL."

"I have it in my living room right now with vaulted ceilings. Keeps it 72 at 100 degrees outside so far"

"I live in South Fl so the garage gets super hot, with this running I can get the whole garage down the low 70’s maybe 68,69 with a fan helping blow it around."

"Get a 2 hose portable or a Midea with it's 2 in 1 hose system. ... 1 hose models are sold in America 'because installing 2 hoses is too hard for that market to figure out'. They are the single dumbest invention in the history of inventions, blowing out the very air you are trying to cool."

"The Midea hose within a hose one is quite popular. ... These allow for your internal pressures to be normalized as a single hose unit will cause negative pressure in your apt"

"Dual hose is much more efficient as it doesn’t create negative pressure and suck warm air in though every unsealed crack."

"I have that unit and absolutely love it for its cooling power to noise output."

"It's a great a/c unit regardless, it runs so much quieter than a regular one. ... If I'm doing a quick audition I'll leave it on (I turn it off for paid gigs), which I could never do with our old a/c units."

"They use a variable speed DC inverter-compressor which only runs as fast as it needs to, also quieter than most."

"I have a hose and bucket and it’s been completely dry. Running almost every night for past 2-3months"

"Never had to yet."

"when the inverter kicks on it really is quite the kick. ... It's also a bit bassy while it's spooling up. ... If you are a light sleeper it will wake you up."

"I have to run the fan on high to drown it out"

"It does make a bit of a high pitched whine when the fan is running at the lowest settings. ... It seems to just be a side effect of the inverter and so far hasn't driven me nuts, but it is quite obvious to a keen listener."

"If you have a small room you aren't going to want 12k anyway. It's not going to remove the humidity effectively... the room will feel cool but clammy and uncomfortable."

"one fills up with condensation and has to be drained every 15 minutes. ... I ended up having to jury rig a constant drain hose to it and it works fine but I’ve never had to do that with a portable before."

"Unfortunately did not install mine until after the Amazon return window ended and I had collapsed the box. I had emails with them back and forth about the smell, assuming that it was covered under the warranty. They were not very helpful. In fact they were very dismissive and told me to get someone to clean it (almost as expensive as the air conditioner) or clean it myself (which I believe would void the warranty) so I used the wick trick to drain water from the a/c and purchased an extended warranty. ... I don't understand why they would have created an AC that didn't drain. ... My brother has two of them, one of which is full of mold"

"one fills up with condensation and has to be drained every 15 minutes. ... I ended up having to jury rig a constant drain hose to it and it works fine but I’ve never had to do that with a portable before."

"it got full of mold in 6 months ... I tried to remove the casing to clean the mold but it’s just in a really inaccessible spot deep in the cold air vent."

"1 never cooled right out of the box."

"That thing don't do shit in a living room."

"Seriously doubt you are getting it to below 68 in the bedroom without it being 63 or below in the living room. A small unit isn’t going to do that hotter than mid to high 70s outside."

"Even the Midea dual hose units have this issue, just to a lesser degree. They are NOT sealed all that well and have gaps everywhere. ... There is definitely still some negative pressure, even with the Midea dual hose units. A slightly cracked open door will swing inwards by itself when the AC is turned on. ... I have a Midea unit and I know exactly what you're talking about. There is a small gap from the bottom chamber to the top chamber, and due to the pressure difference, the airflow reverses in that region. I opened up the unit and sealed it with foam to remove this problem. ... These things are not sealed very well and have gaps everywhere. There's also gaps on the bottom of the unit and around the drain hoses. ... The evaporator is also not completely separated from the condenser on the inside, so even if you seal all the exterior leaks, there is still some inefficiency."

"fait rentrer de la poussière et odeur l’air rentre de partout"

"Because, if you use this and you're exhausting air.... It is basically sucking air out of the van, creating negative pressure. So the van needs air, so the negative pressure pulls air from around the window or wherever air can enter. So warm humid outside air will be pulled in."

Best is split unit installed by profissional. (~1500€ or more) Second best is dual duct one, e.g. Midea MPPT. (~900€) Third best is any cheap ac unit on the balcony with cold air duckted inside. Last and worst option is any cheap ac unit installed by instructions.

r/VanLifeStanding Portable AC Overrated BTUs for the space? PFA
6 months ago

Hey, you should get one that pulls in air from outside, a dual ported unit (both pulls in air from and exhaust air to the outside). Because, if you use this and you're exhausting air.... It is basically sucking air out of the van, creating negative pressure. So the van needs air, so the negative pressure pulls air from around the window or wherever air can enter. So warm humid outside air will be pulled in. Midea makes a dual ducted unit, that will work better. You can do all the math you want on the unit you mention but this is self defeating, the math is worthless on single duct portable AC's.

r/VanLifeHow do portable air conditioning units work in vans and RVs? Are they effective?

You can run a portable like the one you shared but it's not going to work as well as you think. You need an air conditioner that both pulls air from and exhaust air to the outside. That unit you're looking at only expels hot air outside. Which means you're going to be sucking in air through all the crevices in the vehicle, around the doors and windows and wherever else while you're also trying to cool down inside. Midea makes one that is more what you should use if you insist on the portable AC.

r/AirConditionersMidea portable AC at Costco $350, is it good?

Bad news for me is my Midea U-shaped in-window AC is on the recall list. I bought it a year ago at Costco on sale for around $300. I assume even if I might get a full refund, I probably won’t be able to get a new one with the same 12k BTU for $300, which makes me so angry. Anyway, we just bought the exact same portable model as you, but for $499 at Costco in the Seattle area. You got such a good deal. Anyway, I love this AC unit, it’s amazing! It’s currently 73 degrees inside the room where we put it, but it’s 84 degrees outside the house. It could be even colder in here (the machine is capable of that), but we don’t want to feel too cold, LOL. Every summer until now, I have suffered so much (the heat makes my health issue temporarily much worse, until the air cools down). I really hope this one won’t be recalled in the future

r/AirConditionersI have central air but my upstairs/bedroom is always hot. Is it worth the extra energy costs to get a portable unit?

I picked up a Midea 12k BTU dual hose unit from Costco last summer for this exact reason and I love it. Master bedroom is on the top floor and I had to crank the central AC all night to be barely comfortable, while it was like 60 degrees in the lower floors. In the daytime it was 80 in the room. Now I leave the central air off all night and leave it much higher during the day and the portable keeps the room nice a crispy. My utility allows me to see daily energy usage and it went down like 30%

r/urbancarliving[no build] Costco $350 midea 12000btu portable AC, best bang for your buck
8 months ago

100 off until 6/15, I bought mine from last year, it got me through last summer. You probably want to get it before sale end, summer is already here. costco also have a 8000btu dual hose Hisense for 280? it’s smaller and lighter, not sure about the power consumption. This 12000btu AC pulls 1400w at maximum power I use latex rubber hose for drain. I think I’m going to dock at an EV charger to charge my 20kwh power stations/batteries.

Hi there! I have a lightly used, two-year-old Midea 12k BTU-dual hose AC unit that I’m looking to sell. Works great, we just recently moved and don’t need it anymore. Feel free to message me if you’re interested! I can send you the listing.

r/orlandoAnyone have a portable AC in their garage?

I just bought one ironically. I have a 3-car garage that faces the afternoon sun. Bought a 12000BTU AC from Costco and it can’t really keep up, but does a good enough job bringing it down to around 82f. The problem is that it’s drawing 14A and I have only one circuit to my garage so bigger is not an option without doing some electrical work

r/AirConditionersThe State of Portable Air Conditioners in 2025 - A Review of ZAFRO 16,000BTU Portable Air Conditioner, Highly Recommend!

I purchased a couple portable air conditioners this summer from a brand called ZAFRO and wanted to share my experience and observations with them. I purchased their 16,000BTU and 14,000BTU units, one for the living room and one for the main bedroom and wow am I ever impressed with these. First, these units are dual hose units, they do not create negative pressure zones in the room they're cooling and are thus much more efficient and effective. I think we're starting to see more dual hose units come to market and I am happy to see this trend because the single hose units are really just garbage. Secondly, these units also have a new drain-free function, where essentially you do not need to worry about draining them unless you live in an extremely humid environment. These units also really quiet, like it gets as low as 42dB on its lowest setting. Last year I purchased a Midea Portable AC that was also a "dual hose" unit, but it was essentially one large concentric hose, and it was very unsightly and difficult to maneuver. This Midea unit was also big and heavy. Whereas these ZAFRO units are much smaller and lighter in comparison (around 55lbs) . And they look much more aesthetic too, but that is more subjective. Finally, these are "smart" air conditioners, they have an app that you can use to control them from your phone remotely. It is a very nice feature to have, especially for me since now that I have two of them. Overall, I’m very impressed with some of the new portable ACs on the market today including this ZAFRO one. Highly recommend checking out this portable air conditioner if you're in the market for one, they're sold on Amazon. Not sure if I'm allowed to post links on here but it is easily searchable. Also, I’m not affiliated with this brand. https://preview.redd.it/5lubbg2ekdgf1.jpg?width=2680&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0bf44a1d9c5bfa894ae984011def7f2a5cc845e9 https://preview.redd.it/0cz8vo2ekdgf1.jpg?width=2657&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=608252b15b2d274852c3a7f601211d31f9cb1f4b https://preview.redd.it/ozazmf2ekdgf1.png?width=828&format=png&auto=webp&s=32ef082b43bb33455a46ece2805e609632060039

r/AirConditionersCan a portable AC placed at the star cool the bedroom?

It’s a pretty small space. Put a fan blowing into the bedroom with a dual hose 12000 btu portable (Midea duo) and it will do fine. Probably better to put a window unit in if you can though.
