"One of the best things about them is, once they cool things down, they ramp down and run really quiet."
"I have that unit and absolutely love it for its cooling power to noise output."
"Die midea hat aber einen Inverter und der ist viel leiser als der herkömmliche Kompressor in Monoblock Geräten. ... während du neben der midea schlafen kannst"

"Get a 2 hose portable or a Midea with it's 2 in 1 hose system. ... 1 hose models are sold in America 'because installing 2 hoses is too hard for that market to figure out'. They are the single dumbest invention in the history of inventions, blowing out the very air you are trying to cool."
"So, portable AC units are pretty much useless UNLESS they are dual hose. ... I reccomend to friends and family to only buy portable units if you can get a dual hose setup. ... They are more expensive but I got one on sale at home hardware for around 600 dollars. ... Traditional window units are still much better than any portable AC unit, but dual hose will get the job done."
"If you can buy Midea Duo PAC which is a dual hose portable ac definitely worth it."

"I have it in my living room right now with vaulted ceilings. Keeps it 72 at 100 degrees outside so far"
"I live in South Fl so the garage gets super hot, with this running I can get the whole garage down the low 70’s maybe 68,69 with a fan helping blow it around."

"Unfortunately did not install mine until after the Amazon return window ended and I had collapsed the box. I had emails with them back and forth about the smell, assuming that it was covered under the warranty. They were not very helpful. In fact they were very dismissive and told me to get someone to clean it (almost as expensive as the air conditioner) or clean it myself (which I believe would void the warranty) so I used the wick trick to drain water from the a/c and purchased an extended warranty. ... I don't understand why they would have created an AC that didn't drain. ... My brother has two of them, one of which is full of mold"

"it got full of mold in 6 months ... I tried to remove the casing to clean the mold but it’s just in a really inaccessible spot deep in the cold air vent."

"I returned it because the hose is just so big and very awkward to get into a window."
"I'd rather not return it because frankly it was a huge pain in the ass to get home."
"it's the second one that I've had to drag up here and put set up."

"I have to run the fan on high to drown it out"
"It does make a bit of a high pitched whine when the fan is running at the lowest settings. ... It seems to just be a side effect of the inverter and so far hasn't driven me nuts, but it is quite obvious to a keen listener."

"Even the Midea dual hose units have this issue, just to a lesser degree. They are NOT sealed all that well and have gaps everywhere. ... There is definitely still some negative pressure, even with the Midea dual hose units. A slightly cracked open door will swing inwards by itself when the AC is turned on. ... I have a Midea unit and I know exactly what you're talking about. There is a small gap from the bottom chamber to the top chamber, and due to the pressure difference, the airflow reverses in that region. I opened up the unit and sealed it with foam to remove this problem. ... These things are not sealed very well and have gaps everywhere. There's also gaps on the bottom of the unit and around the drain hoses. ... The evaporator is also not completely separated from the condenser on the inside, so even if you seal all the exterior leaks, there is still some inefficiency."
"It puts negative pressure into the room"
"So, portable AC units are pretty much useless UNLESS they are dual hose. Single hose units don't suck air from the outside but they exhaust air from your house, meaning that the air has to be replaced somehow. Usually this means air will enter your house through door seals and window seals to replace the air thats been exhausted. For all intents and purposes this means it's sucking in the outside air. This drastically lowers the efficiency of the unit because its always working against itself."
Good afternoon. I have a request for you folks. I live in a place that doesn't allow me to have ductless or window AC units, but my situation is such that I need separate AC for my office as the central air is based around my kitchen thermostat, which cannot be changed. What I was told is that *I am specifically not allowed to modify the exterior of my unit.* As such, what I ended up with was a portable AC unit. I can't remember the model off the top of my head, but I believe it's in the same product line as the Friedrich ZCP08SA. It gets the job done, sure. But it's much, much, much too loud. Even at the lowest fan speed. And my microphone is all-too-happy to pick up the noise of the AC, drowning out my voice. So, what I need is alternate options. A different AC unit. Something with little to no required maintenance (such as emptying a water tank) would be preferred, but I'm fine with installing a separate pump to drain the water out the window. (Relatively) quiet operation is a MUST. This is **priority number one.** Zero (or effectively zero) maintenance is **priority number two**. I don't want to have to drain it. Everything else is secondary. The room is about 128 square feet and will be running a powerful PC. Happy to answer any questions that I can. Thanks in advance **Edit:** Minor change for clarification. **Edit 2:** The model I have now is a Friedrich ZCP10SA.
Not at all. I still have the Friedrich in my bedroom. It works well as a white noise machine. Maybe *too* well. I managed to get it hooked up to an electric pump that drains out my window, so at least I don't have to drain it anymore. But, of course, it's still loud. For my office, I ended up with a Midea MAP12S1TBL. It's much quieter, but like any portable AC, it's still louder than, say, a window unit. I haven't had to drain it since I got it; apparently it uses some kind of evaporation technology or yada yada. Aside from the white noise you'd expect from an AC, it occasionally makes a sound that I can only describe as "a pump without enough water to *completely* fill the tube," which isn't terrible, but still worth noting. And when I turn on a guitar amp, there's (occasionally) a strange whine/whistle that I've traced back to the AC being on. I haven't noticed it affecting my computer's microphone. If you *must* get a portable AC, you could do worse than the Midea. I'm satisfied with mine.
Thank you. I've already ordered on amazon the Midea Duo since this is the best deal i has, price is **312.88** which is hard to beat
You're wrong. They exhaust air from your home and air comes in through the window seals and door seals and any other leaky spots. Mini splits and window air units do not exchange any air with the outside. They only pipe the coolant to the outdoor radiator. There are multiple videos and articles online explaining this. I can find one for you if you need.
So, portable AC units are pretty much useless UNLESS they are dual hose. Single hose units don't suck air from the outside but they exhaust air from your house, meaning that the air has to be replaced somehow. Usually this means air will enter your house through door seals and window seals to replace the air thats been exhausted. For all intents and purposes this means it's sucking in the outside air. This drastically lowers the efficiency of the unit because its always working against itself. A dual hose unit will not bring in outside air because it pulls in outside air and blows it back out when it's done with it. This minimizes any gas exchange between the inside and outside of your house. I reccomend to friends and family to only buy portable units if you can get a dual hose setup. I have a dual hose setup myself. They are more expensive but I got one on sale at home hardware for around 600 dollars. Traditional window units are still much better than any portable AC unit, but dual hose will get the job done. I got this one on sale: https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/midea-duo-real-cool-portable-air-conditioner-ac-dual-hose-10-000-btu-0438821p.html
I really like Midea duo inverter unit. You can read up on inverter AC u its but they’re much more efficient. https://www.midea.com/us/store/cooling-and-heating/portable-air-conditioners/midea-duo-smart-inverter-portable-air-conditioner.MAP12S1TBL.mobile I have that model and think it’s great.
I have three Midea inverter portable units that actually keep a 1400 square foot house cool. The dual hose set up is kind of weird, but it works. They are all incredibly energy efficient. They are also pretty expensive. I got a couple of them used and one much cheaper than everywhere else at Costco. One of the best things about them is, once they cool things down, they ramp down and run really quiet.
I have 3 Midea inverter portables. One is a 10,000btu in a small bedroom of 110 sq ft or so. Even the bigger 14,000btu unit I have in a master, while technically too big works. This is because the inverter units scale to need. Once the room is at temp it will barely run to maintain temp, or just shut down for a while. The only issue is the particular design of the dual hose. It is stiff and the unit does not turn very well or at all. There is also stress on the window filler piece because the hose is so heavy. There are some other brands that have actual two separate hose designs. Hisense makes one in a 8000btu size.
I’ve purchased a couple of Midea 10k smart inverter units and have had no issues so far. Time will tell how long they last though.
I got a Midea 10kBTU it's literally the best my apartment is 1,050sq it makes my whole place cold I love it so much
I purchased a couple portable air conditioners this summer from a brand called ZAFRO and wanted to share my experience and observations with them. I purchased their 16,000BTU and 14,000BTU units, one for the living room and one for the main bedroom and wow am I ever impressed with these. First, these units are dual hose units, they do not create negative pressure zones in the room they're cooling and are thus much more efficient and effective. I think we're starting to see more dual hose units come to market and I am happy to see this trend because the single hose units are really just garbage. Secondly, these units also have a new drain-free function, where essentially you do not need to worry about draining them unless you live in an extremely humid environment. These units also really quiet, like it gets as low as 42dB on its lowest setting. Last year I purchased a Midea Portable AC that was also a "dual hose" unit, but it was essentially one large concentric hose, and it was very unsightly and difficult to maneuver. This Midea unit was also big and heavy. Whereas these ZAFRO units are much smaller and lighter in comparison (around 55lbs) . And they look much more aesthetic too, but that is more subjective. Finally, these are "smart" air conditioners, they have an app that you can use to control them from your phone remotely. It is a very nice feature to have, especially for me since now that I have two of them. Overall, I’m very impressed with some of the new portable ACs on the market today including this ZAFRO one. Highly recommend checking out this portable air conditioner if you're in the market for one, they're sold on Amazon. Not sure if I'm allowed to post links on here but it is easily searchable. Also, I’m not affiliated with this brand. https://preview.redd.it/5lubbg2ekdgf1.jpg?width=2680&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0bf44a1d9c5bfa894ae984011def7f2a5cc845e9 https://preview.redd.it/0cz8vo2ekdgf1.jpg?width=2657&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=608252b15b2d274852c3a7f601211d31f9cb1f4b https://preview.redd.it/ozazmf2ekdgf1.png?width=828&format=png&auto=webp&s=32ef082b43bb33455a46ece2805e609632060039
Just bought the Midea Duo dual hose portable AC, it's so much better than the single hose I originally had. I live in central texas, so it's been hot as balls. Even with the rv ac on and the previous portable unit , I could swear that it was almost as though hot air was coming in from every nook amd cranny.
I bought three of this refurbished Midea Duo for $200 when it was on sale. Sometimes you actually get a brand new sealed unit, and other times you get one that's obviously been used. Only one time did I have to return one that was used so that I could buy again and get a new one. They are very powerful, can blow extremely cold, and the best part is the huge amount of air it can move and circulate. I haven't powered on any fans since buying them. I have an office/bedroom that I built within an uninsulated garage, so the garage usually gets much hotter than outside the house, but the Midea Duo can easily make the room ice cold if I wanted too. I rather have an overkill powerful unit that I can adjust, than have one that struggles to cool past a certain temperature. It has an inverter an a number of smart features and automations, to where it does save energy compared to my old and much weaker 6000BTU window AC. As others have said sometimes you will have to drain the excess water if there is enough humidity and unfortunately attics tend to be the most hot and humid, do just buy yourself a condensate pump while you're at it. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Restored-Midea-12-000-BTU-DUO-Portable-Air-Conditioner-Refurbished/15245460485?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=101203551&adid=2222222222815245460485_101203551_14069003552_202077872&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=m&wl3=42423897272&wl4=aud-430887228898:pla-319455734609&wl5=9031479&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=752240012&wl11=online&wl12=15245460485_101203551&veh=sem&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=202077872&gbraid=0AAAAADmfBIoDxmTVAEVJ-3z0yqTYIRzpB&gclid=CjwKCAjwkbzEBhAVEiwA4V-yqgydXA4R16WUmiTF55fwu8OdSpoRGxBS-fhwMhFNN0V_tbo4gELrshoCD3IQAvD_BwE
Mentioning pets, I do have two cats in my room at all times. What I like about the Midea Duo is that I can control and monitor the AC with the SmartHome app. The included window panel had enough room for me to also drill a hole for the cat litter exhaust vent hose and a tiny hole for the condensate pump water drainage hose.
Like today it was peak 93F outside, 108 in the garage, but the AC kept my room a solid 68F. https://preview.redd.it/s5xch96ofrgf1.jpeg?width=1264&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ff398876af91a5d7216f1942858cb5fb339c2b98
