I got this Midea Duo from Walmart refurbished last year for my bedroom and it's great. I live in the SW desert where it can hit 120° F. No problem, no leaks, no emptying (also no humidity to speak of where I live) Easy install (It *is* 75 lbs heavy, but on wheels), Wifi/Alexa compatible. It feels like a real workhorse that should last. The price was right too. just got the Midea duo from Sam's about a week ago. running it in a 1940s house with no AC. it's a tad slow in actually cooling the space but it does eventually. You'll definitely feel it if you're in front of the vent.
I really like my Midea MAP14AHS1TWT. Quiet, solid app control, plenty of power, easy single duct install, came with parts to use on horizontal or vertical windows. Only issue is the water drainage is hard to figure out, but I only run into that in heat mode. This portable unit is not subject to the u-shape AC recall. Also had a good experience with Whynter ARC-14S and their customer service helping me to repair non-warranty damage to the AC, but it's a more basic design, louder, no connectivity, two ducts so I eventually upgraded to the Midea.
I picked up a Midea 12k BTU dual hose unit from Costco last summer for this exact reason and I love it. Master bedroom is on the top floor and I had to crank the central AC all night to be barely comfortable, while it was like 60 degrees in the lower floors. In the daytime it was 80 in the room. Now I leave the central air off all night and leave it much higher during the day and the portable keeps the room nice a crispy. My utility allows me to see daily energy usage and it went down like 30%
I have both. One in my office and one in my master. I would recommend the Midea for OP. It will run super super low, like barely on, and maintain a temp 1-2 degrees below the set point (most of the time...) It has a feature where it goes off a thermostat in the remote. The Hisense only goes off of the thermostat on the unit itself and as a result, it will read way colder than the room, shut off, and then turn back on again 2 minutes later.
I would rate my Midea Duo 4/5 stars. Got it at Costco on sale.
I love my dual hose Midea inverter. It is very quiet and actually works. Here it is on Costco US: https://www.costco.com/midea-12000-btu-duo-portable-air-conditioner-with-mshield.product.4000237574.html
The truth is, they make a lot of them sold under different brands. The inverter part is key. It saves so much power. I have a 1400 square foot house that has, in the past, had three portable single hose units trying to cool it down unsuccessfully. I bought a dual hose Midea unit used and have since bought two more. Now the house is cool and it actually uses less power (not cheaper, electric rates went up). The one I have in my bedroom comes on at a whisper during the night just to maintain the cooling. We have been just keeping them on all the time unless all the doors are open. The only thing I will warn you about: the hose set up is problematic. Twisting the unit side to side more than a little bit is impossible. The units with two separate hoses can be easier to use, but they will have less cooling.
I like that my Midea has an inverter compressor that automatically adjusts to the load, so a 12,000 BTU unit would not be too big. The inverter is very energy efficient. The 3 units we have cost less to operate than the two they replaced and it is actually cool. The fan is also variable. I have gotten up in the middle of the night and had the unit barely running, keeping cool silently. These units are dual hose, this part is a must. Midea makes almost all of these units no matter what brand. The unit I have is currently $530. at Costco. The smaller 8,000 BTU one, branded Hisense, is $310. Both have been on sale in the past but who knows with our current unpleasantness...
Costco has a an 8k BTU hisense inverter dual tube for $270-ish depending on location or online order as well as a 12k (14k actual) BTU midea duo in white for $380. They also have an incredibly lenient return policy compared to Amazon or really most any other retailer. I wouldn't do a refurb unit only because of the short warranty/exchange period.
10k BTU SACC should be more than enough for that room. That is a great price. Ya done good kid. Don't forget to order the door kit and a bunch of foam strip
