Midea - SmartCool 12,000 BTU (MAP12S1CWT)

Y'a toujours eu ce truc où bizarrement les gens en France sont contre la clim jusqu'à ce qu'ils rentrent chez toi en plein été, là les avis changent TRES vite. Au début c'était mes grands parents. "Oh non ça consomme, oh non c'est cher". Il y a 5 ans, j'ai mis 700€ dans une clim portable de 12,000BTU pour climatiser ma chambre quand je vivais chez eux, en prévision de mon futur appart. Bizarrement, tout d'un coup mes vieux qui avaient cette peur de la clim faisaient des allers retours toutes les 25 minutes dans ma chambre pour profiter du frais car les 40°C du 93 sous 75% d'humidité + pollution horrible sont insupportables. La clim consommait genre 2-3€ par jour d'électricité, je leur remboursais car avec 90€ net de salaire par jour, ça me fait un jour de salaire pour 30 jours passés au frais. Le calcul est très simple. 3 semaines après je les entendais en parler, ils ont pété 4,500€ cash pour mettre du monobloc réversible dans 3 pièces de la maison. Verdict : Ils ont lourdement regrettés de pas avoir mis le prix bien plus tôt. Ensuite, c'est ma mère. Elle arrive nerveuse du travail, toute rouge de chaleur et de transpiration, avec du mal à respirer après avoir pris les transports par 38°C pour récupérer un document chez mes vieux. Elle nous voit dans nos chambres respectives, 27°C sans une trace d'humidité. "Putain c'est... Merde on respire, ça te dérange si je m'allonge sur le lit ? Je suis crevée". 48h plus tard, petit Whatsapp de sa part en direct du point relais, elle s'est faite livrer une unité 8,000BTU pour dormir sereine le soir. Là, c'est ma proprio. Dans un 45m² 2 pièces, je propose à ma proprio de faire installer deux monoblocs, total de 2,000€ de ma propre poche, et je lui propose même de lui revendre à 55% du prix d'achat dès que je quitterais l'appart, donc en gros pour 1,100€ elle aurait un truc qui lui ferait gagner énormément de valeur locative. "Ah non, pas de vraie clim", sans élaboration. 2 semaines plus tard, la semaine dernière, elle passe prendre l'apéro pile au moment où il fait 36°C dehors + 60% d'humidité, j'ai mon climatiseur portable en marche. "Ah c'est vrai que c'est agréable hein...", au bout de 45 minutes, on en a re-discuté, j'ai montré la facture EDF pour le résultat et je lui ai expliqué que ça serait encore + efficace sur une vraie clim. La semaine prochaine, j'installe les deux monoblocs qui vont m'être livré d'ici peu. J'ai parlé du 93 donc je vais citer notre poète local qui en 2013 ressortait une citation qui n'a pas perdue de sa saveur : "Les hommes mentent mais pas les chiffres". Les hommes mentent, mais pas le monobloc qui fait descendre les chiffres de 38 à 27 pour 2€ par jour.

Bad news for me is my Midea U-shaped in-window AC is on the recall list. I bought it a year ago at Costco on sale for around $300. I assume even if I might get a full refund, I probably won’t be able to get a new one with the same 12k BTU for $300, which makes me so angry. Anyway, we just bought the exact same portable model as you, but for $499 at Costco in the Seattle area. You got such a good deal. Anyway, I love this AC unit, it’s amazing! It’s currently 73 degrees inside the room where we put it, but it’s 84 degrees outside the house. It could be even colder in here (the machine is capable of that), but we don’t want to feel too cold, LOL. Every summer until now, I have suffered so much (the heat makes my health issue temporarily much worse, until the air cools down). I really hope this one won’t be recalled in the future. 

100 off until 6/15, I bought mine from last year, it got me through last summer. You probably want to get it before sale end, summer is already here. costco also have a 8000btu dual hose Hisense for 280? it’s smaller and lighter, not sure about the power consumption. This 12000btu AC pulls 1400w at maximum power I use latex rubber hose for drain. I think I’m going to dock at an EV charger to charge my 20kwh power stations/batteries.

I just bought one ironically. I have a 3-car garage that faces the afternoon sun. Bought a 12000BTU AC from Costco and it can’t really keep up, but does a good enough job bringing it down to around 82f. The problem is that it’s drawing 14A and I have only one circuit to my garage so bigger is not an option without doing some electrical work

C’est horrible ça, je viens d’installer une clim midea 12k chez moi. Je croyais que ça va résoudre tout mes problèmes. Et mtn j’ai un nouveau soucis, comment fonctionner cette clim dans mon appart Apres avoir investi : clim + kit fenêtres + insulation tuyaux + insulation des fenêtres et portes= 650 700 euros. Et mtn j’ai un système ne baisse pas la température assez, fait rentrer de la poussière et odeur l’air rentre de partout. horrible, je suis tjs dans les 30 jours de retour mais je trouve pas un double tuyau.

Have both of these... The 8k Hisense has a quiet mode that slows down the fan. If your room is borderline too big for 8k it may not be able to keep temp in this mode but it is genuinely quiet. The 12k Midea does not have this mode. In addition, when the inverter kicks on it really is quite the kick. It's also a bit bassy while it's spooling up. If you are a light sleeper it will wake you up.

Check Slickdeals, I recently bought a refurbished 12000BTU Midea for $200. I live in California, currently 95F, and for an uninsulated garage of that size, you'd want at least a 12000BTU Midea if not the 14000BTU. There's currently a 18500BTU mini split on sale for $550 that be optimal.

I have 2 of them for the better part of 7 years. A 12k btu and 9k btu. Midea and Defy. One in my bedroom (4m x 3m) and one as a roaming AC. They work very well. I don't mind the noise. I pretend I'm on a flight somewhere. I won't do wall AC because I'm renting and my landlord is cheap and won't pay. This will suffice. It's better than nothing. I sleep like a baby.

Yeah, those are not ultra efficient but they work, I had it for the last 3 summers including this and works great! Also it was cheap in that time, 312 EUR (Midea, 12000BTU). I used a plastic adapter to cover the window, of course close the cortins and close the other room doors to increase efficiency. My electric bill had no changes I don't turn it in all the days, just when it is 30+ outside (like today). And my cats are now safe! (First summer one of my cats throw up because of the heat)

I have the same combination and it works, it's not ultra efficient but you don't need to turn it on all days.

I got this same unit for the same price, but mine has this constant rattle sound. Does anyone have any experience with this and have a way to fix it? I'd rather not return it because frankly it was a huge pain in the ass to get home.
