Look on marketplace or the local hard rubbish pages. I grabbed an Omega Altise for free. It works perfectly, and I’m not spending $600+ for a good portable. The cheaper ones barely work, and eat electricity.

They are loud, but we have had good luck with Omega (alitse) ones, as long as you work with their limitations. i.e. They really don't seem to have the power to cool an open plan space. Ours can get the bed room temp down by up to 7 degrees (compared to other rooms) in the heat of summer. With a ceiling fan on at the same time the room is bliss on those >27 degree nights. The one we have is reverse cycle and is almost a better heat pump heater than it is at cooling... also has dry mode which sucks out the humidity well... as long as you don't forget to empty the water tank before it overflows.
