**Yes!** I bought a **ProBreeze 9000 BTU** a few years back, and just being able to sleep at night during those few blisteringly hot days in the UK is a dream! As others have mentioned, you may need a longer hose kit to vent it properly through a window. A good tip I used—if you're handy with a Dremel—is to get a **clear perspex sheet**, cut it to the size of your window, attach it at the corners with **strong Velcro**, and cut a hole for the hose to pass through. This way, you can seal off the open window and stop hot air from coming back into the room. **Bonus tip:** If you're in your "forever home," it might even be worth considering a full house air conditioning system installation. Long-term comfort, especially with how summers have been heating up, is definitely worth thinking about!
5 years ago I bought a "Pro Breeze 9000 BTU 4-in-1 Portable Air Conditioner with Window Kit" for £430 including delivery, and it is still going strong. It seems to be out of stock at Pro Breeze's website but you may be able to find it at other stores, or a more recent model. I find it noisy and a bit of a faff to set up (also, it is heavy, bear that in mind if you plan on moving it up and down the stairs), but it does cool a room very efficiently. For those who work from home, it can be a life saver - I used to live in a flat that got hammered by direct sunlight all day. Great during the winter, unbearable in summer. The office would get to 35-37°C, but with this AC it would go down to the low 20s. In the meantime, get a big bucket of water and a towel and set them under your desk. Soaking your feet in cool water makes a BIG difference.
Got myself a ProBreeze a few weeks ago, and it's probably the best thing I've ever bought. I suffer from hyperhidrosis and heatwaves ramp up my symptoms to shit-hundred-and-fuck. Did you also get people saying "Wow that's super expensive! Is it even worth it?"
Not entirely sure what makes that worth £380... I have one made by ProBreeze which is almost identical which cost £200 during a sale on Amazon. For £380 I would expect a more powerful unit. I hate to say it but I think you could do a lot better for £380, or at least I would expect it to cost at least £100 less than it did.
