I believe the brand is Whynter. And it's a fuckin good portable AC.
You’re not doing anything wrong..portable ACs are mold traps by design. Sitting all winter with leftover moisture = fungus party. Run it on fan mode before storage to dry it out. As for brands, try Whynter or Midea dual-hose. They’re slightly easier to clean. Or go mini split and never look back.
Should work fine. You’ll have to figure out something to do with the condensate water. I had a Wynter unit for several years, heating and cooling an area much too large for it in SoCa. Because it was undersized it did’t always do a great job keeping up and it ran constantly, but it kept working. The one time I had an issue the customer support from Wynter was outstanding and I was able to get it going again right away. I don’t see Wynter mentioned these days. I hope they still make them. Mine was solid.
If you’re going portable, go LG or Whynter. Midea’s hit-or-miss like a Tinder date..looks good online, but disappoints in person.
i've been through this exact search for my tiny home! honestly a dual-hose [portable AC unit](https://featherab.com/shopit?market=am&search_keywords=dual+hose+portable+air+conditioner) works way better than single-hose for actual cooling. i got a Whynter one that's been pretty quiet and handles humidity okay. what worked for me was also adding a small [dehumidifier](https://featherab.com/shopit?market=am&search_keywords=small+dehumidifier) for those muggy days - they're more efficient at drying the air than AC alone. look for units with inverter technology if you can, they're pricier but save money on electricity in the long run.
Any dual hose one will be more efficient and possibly more quiet. I have the Whynter Arc. It does a great job. Some people may find it noisy but it doesn’t bother me. But it IS large so not easy to lug between places.
Whynter. They’re also packed very well in the box.
Dual hose air conditioning systems are worth the cost, and here's why: single hose systems pull from the indoor air to exhaust the heat outside, which creates a negative pressure, causing the hot air to be pulled back indoors through gaps & drafts around doors. A dual hose system pulls in outside air for cooling & exhausts the heat to the outside, so you do not have to fight the heat produced from your equipment with negative pressure. They will be much more effective in real-life applications. In addition, if you have a home that is approximately 2,000 sqft then I am going to tell you straight out that no single portable unit will effectively cool your entire home. Portable AC units are designed to cool a room at a time. If you want to effectively cool an entire home you will either need multiple portable units or you will need to look for another solution, like mini-split systems or window units. Brands worth considering: LG, Whynter, Midea are all brands with superior customer review ratings. Avoid brands that are off-brand or on Amazon, the compressor quality is usually of poor quality.
