I have a boom 2 SE it sounds decent for what it is but nothing to write home about I’m planning on getting a boom V2 with the tweeters and an actual woofer it will sound better than the SE. I’ll get it when it drops in price again I’ve already heard it at Costco decent buy if I can get it for $70 or $80.
Anker Boom 2 is on sale for $90. If you buy refurbished - excellent you can get two for $150 and pair them up.
Soundcore (Anker) makes some nice speakers. Although I don’t have the exact model, their Boom3i might fit your needs. They even advertise it being strapped on a kayak. It also supports a feature called “PartyCast” which allows connection of something silly like 100 speakers to play in sync. The two models I do have are the Motion 300 and the Boom 2. Connection is solid to both as I can easily be over 50 foot away and there’s no issues.
In my experience, distance and basic obstacles haven't been an issue with either of those speakers. Just to check, I did a quick test inside my house. I turned on the Boom 2 and got some music playing. For reference, I was using an iPhone 16 for my music source. I put down the phone on a tile counter and then moved the speaker to the complete opposite side of the building, maybe about 50 feet away. For the first location, a straight line between the two devices would go through wood cabinets and at least two walls (drywall and wood stud). I then walked around in front of the speaker so that I would be against the speaker and blocking the direct line between the devices. No sound issues. For a second location, I took the speaker and moved it to a corner and put it inside a bathtub (fiberglass, not enameled cast iron, I believe). The direct-line would have been through two double-paned glass windows, tile, and the tub. No sound issues there. For the final location, I went to the other corner of the house and placed it on a wire shelf (inside a wire shelving unit) in the bedroom closet. I then closed the closet door. This gave about three walls and the closet door between the phone and speaker. I did have a small sound issue when placing it on the shelf where the sound stuttered for a second. It didn't interrupt the playback once my hand was away. I didn't try anything crazy like sticking it behind a metal panel since that would be a rare scenario.
Anker boom 2 has good bass, awesome lights and decent portability for under £100
Anker refurbish from their ebay store. Motion boom is $63 and boom 2 is $81. both come with a 2yr warranty. Just stay away from the boom 2se. It's the red headed stepchild.
This is sage advice: two speakers for different use cases. I tried to settle on one speaker that would be practical for their grandkid's purposes, that is, parties *and* hiking, camping and water sports, and couldn't. A boombox for when volume and better fidelity is required; a smaller speaker for outdoor on-the-go activities. OP, as well as Earfun and Tribit, Anker (Soundcore) has enough of a lineup to satisfy different criteria. For instance, [Soundcore Boom or Soundcore Boom 2 ](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=anker+soundcore+boom&i=electronics&crid=9EFL7JVSRBJK&sprefix=anker+soundcore+boom%2Celectronics%2C123&ref=nb_sb_noss_1)are smaller boomboxes; the Soundcore Boom 3i is a tough, outdoor, portable speaker.
