I bought one of these after seeing some of the articles and youtube videos. They're not bullshitting, this thing actually produces sub bass. Its not /exactly/ like having a subwoofer but it is by FAR the closest thing you can get in a portable package. I haven't done proper measurements, but it easily extends to 30hz and sounds like it even will touch the 20-25hz range. I keep having to remind myself to compare it to other portable speakers where it mops the floor vs. a pair of studio monitors or some bookshelf speakers and a sub. The only downsides I have are the price ($600), the charging port isn't USB C, and on startup a voice reads out the bluetooth status and battery level which is annoying. If youre listening to a lot of mixed genre stuff you may have to mess around with the EQ, which means you have to connect to the speaker's wifi which is a bit annoying, but not the end of the world.

I had a subwoofer failure after a few months of use (and bouncing around in the trunk of my car), and Brane immediately dispatched a replacement and a prepaid shipping label for me to return the defective unit.

I ordered 12/30, delivered 1/11. DEFINTELY king of SQ for size AND price. It's not audiophile quality, but it sounds VERY good, especially indoors. It has surprising bass using boundary effect (place 12" from a corner or wall), and the dedicated tweeter produces highs I'm not used to in a small BT speaker. It sounds so good I don't need to EQ like on the Tribit Micro 2 and Brane X which both REQUIRE EQ. After EQ the Brane X sounds AMAZING, bass and overall sound is in a whole other category. I actually planned on using the Brane X as a travel speaker, my wife said out of the question. So I ordered both the Tribit Micro 2 and the Sound Outdoor for different space constraints, but after hearing both, I'll ALWAYS make room for the Sound Outdoor. I don't see myself settling for the Micro 2's sound… I can make 53 cubic inches of space (2-5/8 x 2-5/8 x 7-3/4"), maybe even take it in my computer bag. I ordered another one, the price can't be beat for this level of quality.

Look into Brane X ! Startup based out of Austin. Just got one and I love it. Compact portable speaker with a true subwoofer in it (that’s not a massive soundbox / jbl party speaker.) A bit more than $300 - it’s $450 and they give $50 off I believe. Highly recommend! This thing bumps and is very balanced- going to get another..

I’ve had a Brane for a while now. Had a slight issue when it arrived as I live at 7500 feet of elevation. I emailed Brane and within a day had received a reply from the co-founder who’s also the engineer. He did a bit of troubleshooting with me then dispatched a new one to me with overnight shipping. He also sent me a return label so I could send my original unit back so they could take a look at it. Incredible customer service. Not sure what that other person is talking about with him getting no replies from calls or emails. Find that extremely hard to believe. The unit itself is unbelievable. I don’t understand how something its size produces the bass that it does. It’s able to fill a space much larger than something this size should be able to. It’s pricey and it is annoying that it doesn’t have USB C charging but for sound, it’s hard to match it for something its size.

All I can say is that I've had a bunch of speakers over the years, and this thing just sounds better than any of them, including my sonos move. And my experience with battery life has been pretty good - I mean, I don't play it at top volume most of the time, but the one time I took it out to a family get together, we put it by the pool and just let it go for almost 10 hours. No problems. I haven't heard the Hyperboom in person, but would love to hear the difference between them and Brane X.

This is late, but I got one too, and it definitely goes lower than the 10" sub I use at home in my stereo setup. With proper placement, it's been able to audibly reach 23 hz, but the driver will respond to any frequency you toss at it, which almost concerns me. It will shake the whole speaker at 20 hz, and being a new product I wonder if it will just fall apart doing that lol. I think they should come out with a more powerful version for home theater, as I'd love to have a stereo setup that doesn't need a dedicated sub, or at least a small one

Hmmm, I only got the speaker..no freebies like others spoke of. Seems the free items are different with each package. I’m here because I wanted to see how others battery life was working. I played it for about an hour and it was down to 39%. In this, I’m very disappointed. However, it does have amazing sound. I’m not sure if I should keep it. Perhaps if the battery lasted at least half the time they claim, I wouldn’t mind so much, but just a couple hours defeats the purpose of it being portable. I just hope the battery holds out long enough to get $600 worth of playtime out of it.

If you like true full-range bass and a subwoofer sound from a portable speaker, this thing is incredible. It literally feels like I'm at a show in my living room (although not great for loud, outdoor events -- should probably purchase something bigger and louder). Otherwise I've never been happier with a speaker purchase in my life. Truly awesome technology they created. 10/10

I just received mine and you are spot on. The build quality is nice but not $500 nice. My grill fabric was also not quite lined up perfectly. The handle is really cheap feeling and looking and not comfortable to hold. Wonder how long it will lastThe bass is amazing. This definitely hits lower than the JBL, Harmon, and anything else in its class. And it gets quite loud without distortion. For it's size and form factor it is absolutely incredibleThe mids and highs are subdued in comparison. They sound fine just seems they need more gain or power at lower volumes, even with the highs on eq cranked upThe highs come alive at much higher volumes but the speaker is quite loud at that point and won't work for regular listeningIf Brane can keep mostly the same form factor, make the build quality nicer (like Harmon and JBL) and improve on the mids/highs, and maybe add physical buttons or at least illuminated ones, it would be killerThe woofer technology is insane though. Imagine a tiny home subwoofer with that technology in it. Or a medium sized one. They can revolutionize the industry.

Got it. Got another. They now work as a stereo pair beside my TV in the game room. Wonderful piece of kit, especially if your used to Sonos type sound and want something with more meat to it. The newest update added a lot of customizations and a better parametric eq. Now voices can come front and center like I prefer

I picked up one of these recently, absolutely love it. Zero regrets. Was hesitant to spend this type of money on something so new and sparingly reviewed. However, the sub bass and overall sound is honestly impressive. So much so that I don't really have an interest in looking at anything else this size for portable. "They Will Shade Us With Their Wings" by Max Richter can be heard vibrating my walls from other parts of the house. However, I am hardwired in most of the time w/ a Topping G5 streaming Tidal. If they add Tidal Connect or other wifi streaming it would be great for wireless as well. Just bluetooth 5.1 and some standard res streaming services supported according to the page. Haven't messed with the app yet. I do not have a ton of speakers to compare it to. The soundboks is too big, the iRoar Go too small. Planning to sit down for an A/B against my pair of Rokit 5s at some point just to really pick out the nuances and what is/isn't revealed within certain tracks. I would really love to put it next to a Beosound A5.

I have not. Although I would not place it in the same tier of the Rokit 5s in terms of sound quality it's definitely good. I am hoping someone with a far better microphone does something like this in video format. The speaker is on Amazon these days, so hoping it gains traction in that regard.

I have both and a marshal woburn 3. Of the three, I prefer the marshall as the top of the three at low to 75% volume, so it lives in my office at work. Between the brane X and the authentix 500...really depends on what I'm listening to. The authentix wakes up when the volume is 50% plus, and I prefer it's midrange for rock/acoustic stuff/country etc when at higher levels. It's plently good for edm with some bass left to be desired...same with the woburn III. The JBL lives in my home office. I love the Brane for moving around the house and thumping pop/edm/chill tracks while doing stuff around the house. It's midrange leaves a little to be desired for driving, distorted guitars, but...other than that it is pretty awesome. Honestly tho, I prefer the sonos five over all three for in-house...albiet I do use two linked in stero then paired with a sonos sub, so it's been a while since I listened to one five solo...used to be in my kitchen, now the set is in the bedroom. Also have the first gen. sonos move, and I while I prefer the Brane over it, I've heard the second gen move, and it is worth considering if size and weight are considerations. I demo'd a gen 2 turtlebox (didn't buy one bc I ended up buying a battery portable pa speaker instead), but it is a dandy as well. Is a 2 way, and it's 6x9 helps hard rock crunch. The brane's bass is better overall, but the 2 2.5 inch mid drivers' crossover point seems like it could be tweaked to send a bit more low mid to the 6.5x9. Brane seems to be working on a gen 2...may be worth waiting to see what they come up with. Would love to see in-app stereo pairing and an adjustable crossover vs. revamping the mid drivers. Ofc all that is moot if you hear it and love it as is! With the sale coupon...honestly considering buying another one and trying out the pair wired in stereo...who knows, they may add wireless stereo pairing in firmware later. Chosing between the brane and the jbl...are you parking the speaker in one place, are you a bass-head, what are you listening to, and how critically are you listening? The brane is good. The jbl beats it for clarity, balance - especially in midrange - and overall quality. JBL's bass is there and good...the brane's bass is something else entirely...it's more "fun" than the jbl for edm, and the jbl doesnt have a battery/is pretty bulky to try to move around. But...if you're parking it in one place and want overall quality...jbl.

Since u didn't specify budget, a small speaker that can pump out actual proper bass is only the Brane X and Devialet Mania rn in the market. Mania has a much more flat eq which may sound boring and unimpressive at first, but u will soon appreciate how pleasing a flat frequency response is and notice how u get no listening fatigue at all. Brane x is a warmer speaker that has a pretty bad bass drone that u will find annoying for long periods, as it lacks highs and mids, however it is extremely impressive in pumping out bass, that is properly audible up to around 20+hz, whereas mania gets to 30hz but with significantly better tuning(cons are it's price is stupidly expensive) Brane x is cheaper and produces better bass, with the sacrifice of lacking mids and highs which gives bass fatigue, Mania is more expensive, but has very consistent frequency response, smaller, and still has proper deep bass to 30hz no issues.

ITS ALL SMOKE AND MIRRORS! I stopped in their shop during a vacation . They had a great presentation which seemed to be on the up and up. Me and my wife purchased a speaker. We were told we could return it within 30 days no questions asked. Upon returning home, we unveiled this speaker at our Fourth of July party only to have it fail miserably. The speaker rattled like an old car trunk. I reached out to Brane audio to start the process of returning only to be left high and dry. I’ve sent several emails and called the listed phone number 20 to 30 times now.., no response. Don’t get suckered into this trap like we did. You’ll be better off purchasing Harmon/Kardon or Bang & Olufsen.

If you like the Sonos 5, why not explore other Sonos options? I have a pair of Move 2s (love them), Era 300, Beam Gen. 2 soundbar, Roam 2, and Sub Mini. They're nothing short of awesome-sounding, and since I only stream via Apple TV (AirPlay2), I don't have to deal with Sonos app issues. But, I also have a Bose Smart Speaker (very good sounding), Apple HomePod, and a pair of Bowers-Wilkins Formation Wedges hooked into the same sound system, and the Wedges are superior in sound to any one of the other speakers. BUT...I also have my eyes on the Brane X BT/WiFi speaker, as well as the Naim Mu-So QB 2. I heard the Phantom in person, and was pleased with its sound, but not blown away. I think the Brane X sounded more detailed and had a wider soundstage. Better bass as well. So, you have plenty of options...

Bird's post about the Uboom X and Soundcore Boom 2 are spot on, and for the money are a damned good deal. I had the Uboom X for a minute and ultimately returned it because it was too big, too "boombox-looking," and wasn't WiFi/AirPlay 2. But with Oluv's tuning, it was a bargain if you need a wall of detailed sound that goes LOUD. I have a pair of Sonos Move 2s (and more) hooked up to my AppleTV ecosystem, along with a number of other WiFi speakers. The Move 2s on their own are terrific, and paired, they are dynamite. If you want to go that route, you can't go wrong. I love the portability of my Move 2s, and you can't beat their sound signature (warm, not clinical). The EQ is only "okay" in the Sonos app, but...at least there is an EQ. I listened to the Devialet, and it was very good...but not as good as the Brane X, which costs much less. The Brane X is next on my list of purchases.

Yes. You should get Brane X. It's finally the best Bluetooth Speaker I've owned and I can carry easily everywhere I go. It has everything you could ask for: fully waterproof, compact, HUGE sound, excellent bass (best bass response is indoor), wifi, alexa, UPnP, Airplay, true stereo, true sub, excellent battery, EQ settings, and a notable feature, the ability to bypass sound processing for zero delay (i.e. for using as PA for a mic or guitar, or movie watching using a 3.5mm aux cable. Original MSRP is 599, but saw it go for $450, and now $499. Check it out!

# Unboxing and First Impressions  I ordered the Brane X speaker from their website, and it arrived in a box with a fragile sticker on the outside. The box had a dent on one corner, which made me worry about the condition of the speaker. However, when I opened it, I was relieved to see that the packaging was adequate and protected the speaker from any damage. Besides the speaker, the box also contained a Brane branded hat, a quickstart guide, a sticker, and the (bulky) charger.  The speaker itself looks and feels durable, with a fabric material that wraps around the cylindrical shape. The only minor flaw I noticed was that the fabric was not perfectly leveled to the frame of the speaker, but it’s hardly noticeable.  # Setup and Connectivity  Setting up the speaker was relatively easy, as I just had to follow the instructions on the quickstart guide. I also enabled Alexa integration, which worked well and added more convenience.  One thing that disappointed me was that the speaker could only be paired with one wifi network. When I took the speaker to my parents' house, I could not set it up on their network without unpairing my network. I had to use Bluetooth instead, which works fine but I'd prefer to use wifi as it allows me to do other things on my phone while music plays.   Another minor quirk that I noticed is if you use the speaker’s physical volume button to turn the volume all the way down to mute while having a custom EQ, then turn it back up it seems the EQ changes to one of the built-in presets. Hoping the Brane team sees this and wifi limitation and fixes in future firmware updates.  # Sound Quality and Battery Life  The sound quality of the Brane X speaker is amazing, especially the bass. I was blown away by how loud and low the speaker could go without distorting. It sounds like a much bigger speaker than it actually is. I listened to different genres of music, but I especially enjoyed EDM and hip hop, which showcased the bass capabilities of the speaker. It’s not going to blow your hair back like festival subs, but it has the same satisfying thump and rumble you’d expect from a decent OEM car audio system with subwoofer or 2.1 powered desktop setup. It’s seriously impressive bass that continued to surprise me.    Highs are slightly lacking at lower volume levels but really open up and start to sparkle >60% volume. Not incredible but not bad either.  Playing around with EQ can make lower volume listening a lot better, depending on the space you’re in.  Stereo imaging isn’t the best either but I found myself not really caring. You’ll still pick up on aggressive panning in psychedelic tracks but you might find it harder to hear the more subtle sweeps as the soundstage isn’t that wide.  The battery life was decent, but not exceptional. I played music at varying levels, mostly on the louder side, during a visit to my parents house and the battery went from 100% to 46% in about five and a half hours. That means I would not get the advertised 12 hours of playtime, unless played at low to low-moderate volume. The omission of USB type C for charging is disappointing, as the included charger is very bulky, like an old HP laptop charger. # Conclusion  The Brane X speaker is a great product for anyone who loves bass and wants a powerful sound from a small, portable device. The price is high but you get what you pay for in uncompromising bass in a seemingly impossible form factor. I would recommend this to others, i'm very happy with my purchase.
