You might raise your eyebrows at this but I really REALLY like my EarFun UBOOM (L?) bluetooth speaker. I got it for like 50 bucks. I use it for my mobile synth stuff and it works great. Not loud enough for a gig but plenty loud for a jam in the park. Generally it sounds good, but if you are able to get it pointing directly at you it sounds fantastic. Especially - or maybe specifically, if you install the custom firmware developed by some guy named Oluv, who I guess is maybe well known in the audiophile community, but IDK. You need to use the low latency mode if you're going to perform, which is a double tap of the bluetooth button (even when using AUX). The battery life is great, the sound is great, it's easy to use, waterproof, not very big, etc. etc.

Make sure you check if the size works for you. Personally the UBoom X was too big for me to carry around outside. That's why I like the Soundcore Boom 2. It's lightweight but still can produce a good outdoor sound. If you want something heavy and massive, the UBoom X is a good option.

Two Uboom L's (TWS). I'm loving mine. Took a little effort to dial the EQ to my liking, but they sound great in stereo and have plenty of volume and solid bass. Can't complain for the $120 I paid. I run mine about 4 feet apart, and the stereo spread is very nice.

One sounds damn good, I bought mine and enjoyed it but after about a week I wanted more volume and bass. But I'm using mine in the back of a warehouse and wanted enough volume to overpower noise. In a quiet setting one would be fine. But two in stereo is pretty amazing. There is a coupon code where you can get them for $49 each. Just search for Uboom L oluv code i believe.

The treble and mids are clean and crisp. This speaker doesn't rely on bass at all, some people think it doesn't have enough bass because it isn't a sub bass thrower. The bass is clear and natural. The UBoom L is more like a studio monitor, audiophiles love it because it's neutral and doesn't hype up certain frequencies. Honestly it's just a really great little speaker and the price makes it even better. A lot of bluetooth speakers have exaggerated bass, which is what some people want, this doesn't have that, but it does have bass that serves the music and sounds good and punchy.

I have the Xiaomi outdoor 30W speaker, and I've previously owned both the motion 300 and the Uboom L. The Xiaomi is awesome for the price, better in bass than both those speakers in my opinion, and if you buy one now and save up you can get another one down the line and pair them in TWS. They sound amazing and so much bigger when pair in TWS. Highly recommend

If the JBL Partybox 110/120 is too expensive, go for 2 or more UBoom X. You can pair them up, but be aware that party or tws mode will drain the battery faster (as is the case with all speakers). The Stormbox is nowhere loud enough. Strombox Blast would also work, but needs a bigger charger.

I compared the Uboom L side by side with the Motion + and I did not hear much noticeable difference in bass depth. The Motion 300 however had noticeable deeper bass when I compared it to the UBL. And I did feel like it gave me a fuller sound than the UBL which I really liked. But I didn’t like that the bass didn’t carry over a distance on the 300. But up close at low volumes, the 300 will be good. I would give that a try. It’s not going to give you Boom 2 levels of bass though, not even close.

Small speakers like the Motion+ and Uboom L cannot physically reproduce sub bass due to their small size. You'll need to go bigger. If you want the Uboom L in a deeper bass package, the best you'll find is the Uboom X running Oluv's EQ in the app.

Keep in mind that a Uboom L gives bass as deep as a 5.25" powered bookshelf speaker so you'll need to go at least 6.5" drivers and preferably larger to reproduce sub bass.

You might consider getting two UBOOM L for that price and I'm only judging by my experience. I have jbl charge 3 and jbl xtreme 2. Xtreme is just way too bassy to be a comfortable listen indoors and I don't really use it outdoors as much as I thought I would. So I barely ever use it. On the other hand two speakers in a stereo mode are incomparably better listening experience than one speaker. My guess is that you would mostly be using the speaker in the apartment so you won't be going crazy with bass and volume because of your neighbours so I feel like even if you got the bigger speaker you wouldn't be using it to its potential. In addition to that a smaller speaker can be easily dropped into a pocket or a small bag with other stuff. Larger one isn't really that convenient to take around. Anyway that was my line of thinking. I just ordered two UBOOM L because my JBLs can't play on battery any longer

Honestly, I'd choose two decent BT speakers on stereo mode over a top BT speaker as it's not a hifi experience anyway. That stereo just makes such a huge difference that I'm doubtful a difference in quality of these two speakers can overshadow. But again, that's just my personal preference The modes sound great though. Seems like earfun has been doing a fantastic job

**Context** I have previously owned the Soundcore Motion+ and Uboom L (Oluv's firmware. The issue with these speakers is that they were too heavy to carry along for short trips (especially air travel without check-in). The side/downgrade from the Motion+ to the Uboom L and eventually the Micro 2 is to find a speaker that will be light and small enough to carry around. Sound-wise, i was pretty satisfied with both the Motion+ and Uboom L. The Motion+ for it's deep bass and the Uboom L for it's clarity. Both were very very impressive, and sounded much bigger than what they were. **Situation** The Tribit Stormbox Micro 2 had rave reviews everywhere, so when my Uboom L's battery went kaput, i went straight to purchase a Micro 2. When i got it, I was very satisfied with the size and the weight. Then I tried to play some music and I was completely underwhelmed. The Micro 2 sounded like a small speaker. The mid-bass kick was impressive for something it's size, but everything else sounded poor. The sub-bass is almost non-existent. The mids are very forward and rough but sounds masked. As if the speaker was put through a filter to make everything sound FM Radio like. I had expected much better from the rave reviews, but this doesn't even come close to either of my previous speakers. Major disappointment **Complication** So now I'm debating to get something better. Within the Micro's size and weight, is there anything that is significantly better? Or size remains king and I have to go with something bigger to get the sound I want? It looks like i can't get anything significantly better at this size since the Micro's already seems top pick. The JBL Flip 7 looks great and seems to have gotten really good reviews as well but as much as possible i want the portability of the Micro 2. **TLDR**: Had Motion+ and Uboom L previously. Bought Micro 2 because of the portability. Foudn out I didnt like the SQ and it sounds like a small speaker. Is size king and I just need a bigger speaker to get that sound?

I wouldn't recommend any Earfun speaker to someone who isn't very tech savy. Every Earfun speaker sounds mediocre out of the box and they need EQing. I really like my UBOOM X, but I just can't recommend it to my mom. That's why my mom has a JBL Charge. Also, any of the stock (normal or OLUV's) EQs are way too focused on deep bass, which isn't the best with classical music. And it's not very portable I think, it's rather huge.

Take a look at the UBOOM X, in terms of performance it is far superior to a JBL Charge 5 or a UE Boom 3, and unlike the JBL PartyBoxes it is IP67 dust and water protected. And for less than $250 you can even buy two and use both in TWS mode depending on your application. This could be a really interesting speaker for your needs.

I feel it. With that budget, I'd go with the UBOOM X. I was one of those people that would talk shit about it because I saw so many people hyping it up, but I gave it a chance and it is well worth the money I paid for ($103). But even on prime you can snag it for around $120 which is still a good deal. If you do go this route, make sure you put UBOOMXXX in the discount code thing in Amazon. It should bring it down to that price. Just helping a fellow Redditor out. I also heard they're discontinuing the UBOOM X. $15 bucks more you can get the Tribit Stormbox Blast which, in my opinion, is an awesome speaker. The choice is yours.

I do own a older sonos one which I use in my kitchen, it's good for what it is. The whole idea of the Move 2 is cool, very durable, you got the wireless charging station etc. I listened to the move 2 compared to the A5 and uboomx and it sounded a little lifeless to me. Sonos is known to be on the warmer side of life which is totally fine, but I'm more into neutral sounding speakers. For my personal preference it's lacks clarity. I'm very jelly of your branex, I can't get my hands on one in germany, read a lot of great things about it, wouuld love to get one.

Heard a lot of good stuff about the go&play, it's pretty linear and offers a lot for the price. I'm aiming more towards the brane x but unfortunately it's not available in my cuntry as of now. I haven't tried the HK, I assume it's warmer and more bass heavy than the A5. I was honestly surprised by the standard sound profile, it's very neutral, I was expecting a warm setup. It doesn't go very loud and the bass is nothing to ride home about, but I feel like the precision and responsiveness is incredible. It really does remind me a little of my Yamaha HS7, I love a neutral dry sound. Which is pretty uncommon, so I wouldn't be surprised if many dislike the sound of the A5.

I found very little on the A5 besides generic magazine tests, so I felt like sharing my experience. I have a uboom x and I can tell you that it really gives the A5 a run for it's money. It's hard to put into perspective but roughly I'd say the uboomx performs on 75-80% sound quality wise compared to the A5. The bass is more intense and voluminous than the A5 but not as precise and responsive, similar experience with the mids, the A5 features 3 midrange drivers if I'm not wrong and they are so dry and responsive it's really incredible for the size, I wouldn't say the mids of the uboomx are sloppy, they also sound really good, but the A5 got the edge. In terms of highs, both speakers are almost on the same level, clarity is great on both, but I feel like the A5 is able to display little details more natural and well.. detailed. In summary the uboomx offers about 10x more value than the A5, pair two uboomx together and it will outperform the A5 and it's still so much cheaper. Even tho I'd call myself a sound enthusiast, I'm not a a hi-fi freak by any means, so take this comparison with a grain of salt.

I have both, the Uboom X is a different class of speaker. Boom 2 wins for portability, weight, casual listening. Uboom X is a party speaker in many ways. It competes with the JBL Xtreme. It weighs 2.5x the boom 2 and is larger in size. They both are great, but for different reasons. I am not sure, but I would guess the Uboom X would outperform two boom 2s. Micro 2, boom 2, uboom x, tribit stormbox blast, xiaomi sound outdoor, motion 300 are the best up to 150$. But the xiaomi is the smallest and the size might be a factor here, then 2x xiaomi sound outdoor in stereo mode, those things are very nicely build and also have a nice sound curve, similar to flip 6 but without this harshness and with deeper bass. I recently tried a UBoom X, Tribit Lava and a Soundcore Boom 2 as an upgrade to my Soundcore Motion+. They all did worse than the Motion+. Then I thought, I might as well splash out on a Bose Soundlink Max. I tried it, compared it to the Soundcore Motion+ and hey, what do you know, the Motion+ had better clarity, seperation and midrange. The Soundlink Max had more deep bass, but that was it. Moral of the story: we all have different tastes. There are a lot of "bAss GoOd" posters here, who just value a big rumble. Just order a bunch from Amazon, try them, and return the ones you don't like. Also the UboomX is getting heavily shilled here. It looks like ass and doesn't sound as great as certain posters make it out to be.

Bird's post about the Uboom X and Soundcore Boom 2 are spot on, and for the money are a damned good deal. I had the Uboom X for a minute and ultimately returned it because it was too big, too "boombox-looking," and wasn't WiFi/AirPlay 2. But with Oluv's tuning, it was a bargain if you need a wall of detailed sound that goes LOUD. I have a pair of Sonos Move 2s (and more) hooked up to my AppleTV ecosystem, along with a number of other WiFi speakers. The Move 2s on their own are terrific, and paired, they are dynamite. If you want to go that route, you can't go wrong. I love the portability of my Move 2s, and you can't beat their sound signature (warm, not clinical). The EQ is only "okay" in the Sonos app, but...at least there is an EQ. I listened to the Devialet, and it was very good...but not as good as the Brane X, which costs much less. The Brane X is next on my list of purchases.

Or you could go big (as in HUGE) with a UBoom X. Many here think it's the best peaker on the planet for 100. Alternatively, you could get a Bose SoundLink Flex 2 for around $100 and enjoy the superb, warm Bose signature sound (I also have a pair of those). That being said, $300 will also put you in the league for many other options, both large and small.

😂 I guess my idea of a backpack might be different? 80 Liters is my go-to. How loud do you need? My Stormbox Lava goes pretty loud, and is definitely “portable.” So is a UBoom X.

Suitcase size, Soundcore motion + (with eq) Bose Soundlink flex Gen 2 (not so muddy as Gen1, wait for a sale again. It was 40€ off couple days ago e.g. where i live) If you want to stand it upwards (good for small spaces like hotels) sony ult field 1 is a consideration e.g., but sound is slightly worse than the mentioned two Then get real wired speakers for your desk, not bluetooth stuff. The is often a delay with bluetooth, annoying when watching movies. You dont want to take a go and play with you, trust me. Too big and heavy. If you're saying you also need that power outdoors its different. But i heard uboom x apparently is very good. You can get two to pair them.

Another vote for the Tribit Stormbox Blast (original, not the 2). Won every time I compared it directly to the UBOOM X, which sounded hollow in comparison. I can see someone thinking the UBoom is slightly better if they like that sound profile better but be wary of reviews that make it sound like the best speaker all the time. Something odd about those reviews. Just buy them both from a retailer which allows easy returns and make your own decision.

My experience: I ordered the Soundcore Boom 2, the UBoom X, and Tribit Blast. I know everyone has their own opinion, but here’s mine. I liked the Blast the best for its musicality, loudness, vocal clarity, and having an Aux In for a better TV sounds (especially baseball games). Next was the Boom 2, which sounds warmer but not quite as room filling, it’s great, smaller size, and for not much more $, the ability to have two linked together (but no Aux In). Also, the Blast seems to charge faster with its direct Ac plug in and longer lasting battery. I found the UBoom to not sound quite as good as the other two. I’d love to get others’ opinions in case I missed something.

Hey Dave, If I remember correctly, we only had brief contact once. I must have made a lasting impression if you mention me explicitly in your post. Don't worry, regardless of the UBOOM X, there is no reason for me to watch your video, as it does not contain any valuable information for me. The UBOOM X clearly outperforms every single speaker on your desk, yet is priced in the mid-range. For an independent reviewer, that would certainly be noteworthy. But it seems that you only give good reviews in exchange for benefits from manufacturers. Shame on you.

How portable does it have to be ? If you’re looking to spend under $200ish I think the uboom x is damn near unbeatable in terms of bass and overall sound quality. From personal experience I can tell you it‘s quite a bit better than the boom 2.

I have 3 of them. Lava, blast 2 and uboom x. If you want power, get blast 2. Lava should be your last option. Doesn’t come close to blast 2 and uboom x. If you want good enough bass with pretty much “hifi” sound indoors. Can’t recommend uboom enough. I can send you proof of those 3 together if you want. I also have boombox 3 wifi too(best of the 3) Also I am from India. Uboom x used to be around 16k. Now it’s 18k. Was out of stock for more than a month.

Get the uboom then. It does good in my 30x20ft room. It has good enough bass and clarity. Don’t expect a powerhouse. If you want pretty good bass which will rumble your room. Get blast 2. Clarity is mediocre. Aren’t you interested in Jbl encore essential?? Bass is almost the same as blast 2 with good enough clarity. But battery is abysmal. 4 to 5 hours backup in 50% volume.

Battery depends on what songs you play too. If it has lots of bass. Expect the speaker to eat more battery. Also using blast 2 inside won’t be a problem but its main use is outdoors. The reason I recommended uboom instead of blast even though blast 2 has harder and louder bass is because, using indoor we tend to listen at 30 % 40% 50% volume. That’s where uboom shine. It has bass and clarity even in low volumes, in blast 2, you have to turn up the volume above 50%. And mid and clarity of blast 2 is not good compared to ubooom. 13k for encore essential, give it a try at nearby Croma or any electronic store. You can save some ₹₹ Also don’t expect uboom x to drop below 15k. It never went below 15k even in big billion days last year.

I did a deep dive on this a while back and settled on an Earfün Uboom, which was recommended for two reasons  1. It has firmware available that was tuned by some famous audiophile guy 2. You can find coupons for it that give you like 20 bucks off so it's like 50-60 bucks. It has aux in as well as BT. Good battery life. You just need to be comfortable with the idea of changing the firmware to the specific recommended version. I use mine all the time. It can get quite loud but it is also absolutely dreamy at low volume. Sometimes I rest it on my forehead and it feels like I am wearing fancy invisible headphones. Also, you should read the user manual. It has two modes, one high latency mode for multi-device bluetooth and a low latency mode for single device bluetooth / aux. You switch by double pressing the BT button.  Oh and it's waterproof I guess but I'm not going to test it. I like mine quite a lot. https://www.reddit.com/r/Bluetooth_Speakers/comments/1fle9of/the_earfun_uboom_l_is_insanely_good/
