r/Bluetooth_SpeakersThere’s so many options for “rugged outdoor speakers”, but which are actually worth it?

[ExoXGear EcoEdge Pro](https://ecoxgear.com/products/ecoedge-pro): I know it's not what you're asking about, but its build quality may reflect on Defender. Sound quality is not the EcoEdge's strong point. It's my sailing speaker, and going strong after two years and at least three dozen dunkings and a lot of knocking about. Bulletproof with metal speaker grill; integrated beer/bottle opener a nice touch; the lanyard (which I've replaced twice after it failed), is attached via a metal bolt. Among the best $15 I've ever spent (on FB Marketplace). Earfun Uboom X: Had this for just under a month before I reluctantly returned it. I wanted to keep it, but just couldn't justify it for my use case, which was indoor audio at low to moderate volumes. Still, it's very impressive kit--excellent value--with Oluv's presets a big improvement over the stock EQ settings. Loud, clear and boomy, slightly hollow with weaker upper bass/lower mids; sounds better cranked outdoors than in small rooms at subdued levels. There seems to be a notion here that Uboom X's build quality is mediocre. I think this forum mistakes its mundane design for cheap construction. Sure, it has a utilitarian, functional aesthetic, but it's robustly constructed in plastic, with metal strap loops, and also a steel speaker grill (magnet sticks)--definitely, a plus. The strap is strong as well: it resembles a lightweight seat-belt secured with steel--not plastic--clips. The two passive end-radiators are exposed, like virtually all other boomboxes, so they're points of vulnerability. The UBoom X is rated at IP67; ostensibly, it can survive a dunking or a dust storm; I didn't put it through tests there, but I'm optimistic it can, given the solid construction throughout. The seal over the ports in back is certainly heavy duty.
