"No difference plugged/unplugged on the GP3, or none that I’ve noticed, the amplifier power delivery has been revamped in this new series versus the older ones. Sound quality is consistent regardless of power source, at least for me."
"Not plug-in but can be left plugged in with the flexibility of portability if needed"
"It has Aux and mains that apparently can bypass its battery."

"you can raise. the Bass 3 steps OR Treble 3 steps. ... It really rocks when you do it! ... An amazing speaker!"
"I'm astonished at how well the HK plays music...after futzing around with the EQ (I went with treble boost). ... The other two speakers simply can't compete with the HK for volume, clarity, and detail...not to mention superb bass."
"the bass is pretty remarkable given the size of the drivers."

"For me, it sounds mostly flat but good clarity, separation, vocals are a bit more forward, and a hint of VERY PLEASANT WARMTH that makes long hours of listening very enjoyable."

"However, with its short battery life and lack of weather protection, the Go & Play 3 is only suitable for the garden and other outdoor uses to a limited extent."

"The Go Play 3 attracts major dust. I am constantly dusting mine 3-4 times a day. If you let the dust pile up on the fabric material its not going to be easy to clean since the speaker isnt waterproof."

"The bass resposiveness in the go play 3 begins to shine when at 80% of volume, while in my onyx 4 you can feel it with as little as 20%"
"So that's why mine sounds so flat! ... even my onyx 4 has better bass than my go play 3."
"it just feels odd, its like the bass is spread/diffused through the room. ... This woofer feels more for a movie experience"

Harman kardon go + play 3 Its similar to the boombox but more for indoor use, HK and JBL are sister companies too.
Go play 3 is the only answer but get the max for beach and travel
The Harman Kardon Go Play 3 is a great option.
If you want to use your Bluetooth speaker frequently outdoors or on the go, the Go + Play 3 is not the best choice. Its unprotected woofer at the bottom is vulnerable, it lacks a high IP rating, and its battery life is poor. However, if you only intend to use the speaker at home and portability is not a concern, there are also better options available. Just my two cents.
What do you plan to use the speaker for?
Sure, definitely opt for a stereo setup and use a wired connection. Ideally, connect your TV via HDMI ACR or at least Toslink (optical). Maybe you'll find a nice pair of active speakers. Or maybe you're feeling brave and want to look for a stereo system or a small surround sound system on the second-hand market. Or just a pair of speakers, but then you'll have to buy a small streamer amp in addition. What I would strongly advise against is a soundbar. The HK Go + Pay 3 would really not have been the optimal solution for this purpose. Good thing you asked. Maybe you could ask again at r/BudgetAudiophile.
I decided on the EarFun UBOOM X, which sounds superb for a Bluetooth speaker. It is powerful yet moderate in size and weight. It has an IP67 rating and very good battery life. Since I use it regularly outdoors – I have a high-quality stereo system at home – a portable design, good battery life, and dust and water protection are important to me. Some say that the Go + Play 3 is a stylish, great-sounding speaker intended for indoor use. However, when it comes to competing with a classic stereo system, it doesn't stand a chance. Anyone who considers the Harman Kardon Go + Play 3 to be an exceptionally good-sounding home speaker clearly doesn't have much experience when it comes to hi-fi sound.
The Harmon kardon go play 3 will go on sale every now and then for around 150-160. Definitely worth it if you can get it. It is a bigger speaker and battery life isn’t the best but the sound quality and bass for the price are great.
Harmon kardon go play 3 when it’s on sale
True, it is not very portable
I just ordered mine! They have a few left in stock!!$129 https://ebay.us/m/eje6am
Where the hell do you see it at that price? Excuse my French! I'm only seeing it for $262
I’ve had mine for a couple days now. I love it. I have used a Studio 8 for like a year now and when I saw these deals I jumped at the chance to try another HK speaker. Zero regrets going with the Go Play 3. Paired it to my TV and set it on my headboard for music and movies. Does exactly what I want and sounds great.
Harman Kardon Go+ Play 3....when it is $160. I grab it more often than my Boombox 2.
You can sometimes find the Harman Kardon Go+Play 3 for 250. I had one till it was stolen. I loved it. Otherwise Brane-X from Brane Audio is my #1 choice.
Jeeeeez that is bonkers! Let me know when that happens if you happen to catch it. That's cheaper than my current Bluetooth speaker which I got at Walmart for 149.99. Soundcore Motion X600. I didn't have the money to get anything more expensive. Soon I'll probably get 2 Go+Play 3's though.
Yes, GO+Play 3 delivers the best sound and power - and no surprise you'll have to haul that 4.5 kg beast around. I’ve got a nice carrying case, subwoofer protection grille to make it more travel-friendly, and planning a battery upgrade for all-day playtime. The only considerable factor against portable use is it's weight (that you trade for the best sound).
Harman lists a brand-refurbished Go+Play for 250$ now. Could be a nice deal, I've ordered a second unit for myself to pair in stereo.
I would advise getting a pair of quality wired bookshelf active speakers and optionally add a used 200W sub for this budget. Use a simple $30 Bluetooth receiver for a start to connect them to your source, and upgrade to a WiiM Pro / Plus streamer later ($150). Totally possible if you don't need it portable. It would sound way better in your living room than any plastic bluetooth option. And cost less. For exact product names, listen to this guy here: https://youtu.be/fsqklNeZLio?si=hI4cfLwYlnsh70uy If you need it moveable though ( like getting it outside) I would suggest a pair of Harman Go+Play 3. You'll get a pair of 160W true stereo system with deep bass, not very good for Rock music, but adjustable with an EQ until 70% volume. AND excellent for electronic /disco out of the box. I use this so far, but I move them between a few locations frequently.
Get 1-2 pieces of HK Go+Play 3, or HK Onyx. As stated earlier, nothing will beat these at combined indoor+terrace/lawn/outdoor use, with reasonable portability and sound quality. Not even close. Further strengthened by the fact that you can get that set below $300 for a pair. I have 2x GP3 and I took the best sound to places never thought possible. Oh, before that I had 2x Go Play Mini, and before that 2x Go+Play powered by D batteries.
2 x Harman Go+Play 3, wired with LDAC receiver. (Almost) full 3-way stereo that I sometimes bring outdoors and into the wild.
I'm with you, and also have two! But really, one should have two of any speaker (given you can pair them in stereo). It's like you should take two beers with you, bit one.
True, confirmed on vibrations. It is powerful enough so you have to be thoughtful on placement. And there's a handy handle to place it in a different place in seconds. Also true for the bass, sometimes there's too much of it when you listen directly on-axis. It is instantly fixed by pressing Bluetooth+Minus simultaneously to switch between three bass presets. And pressing Plus+Handset simultaneously cycles through treble presets (boost, flat, reduce). These fix the EQ for listening placements / music style and makes GP3 sound right when needed.
Thanks, I agree. Most decent $500+ bookshelf speakers or 2.1 system would outperform it easily, and it's clearly a better choice for home. Plus the amp-receiver, or something like WiiM / WiiM Amp all-in-one device. But GP3 works great as a good enough stereo system that you can move around / have with you. So you have both a decent sound at home, and the _best_ available sound outdoors. You just have to be a connoisseur to haul it around. So yes, there are better home stereo systems (a lot of them!) that stay at home, but there are barely any better portable (aka Bluetooth) systems in the same class. Or is there any?
two hk go play 3 in stereo.
Muddy at low volumes, mass distortion at high vol. Better get hk go play 3
