I only have the GP3 in HK speakers and it sounds great. I heard the Onyx sound great at lower levels decent bass if it’s at lower volume especially the 9. I only have the Ult Field 1 and its bass is decent for its size I’ve heard it has a deeper bass than the JBL charge 5.
Did any of those compare to the GP3? I'm not familiar with the EarFun UBOOMX. I am replacing my 10+ year old Bose Soundlink 2. I started with smaller more portable models but they were all insufficient base wise. I don't need loud thumping bass but all of them really disappointed me. I was not impressed with current Bose lineup either, nor Sonos. I'd like to get something better than mass market. I was surprised the HK Onyx 9 didn't do well a mid volume. I have an older plug in model that has great sound. The next speakers I'm testing are the Soundcore x600 and the Brane X. Ideally, I'd like something semi portable with good sound. I didn't want a large boombox style but they simply don't make anything decent IMO that's portable. The market has condensed the speaker size and sacrificed bass. My old Bose Soundlink 2 did not thump but you could tell it had a nice balanced sound for a small portable speaker.
Yes the HK onyx 9 was disappointing IMO. Especially compared to the go play 3. I haven’t tried your other options so I can’t speak on them. If you can I would highly recommend buying them all and testing them with your music in your environment. That’s what I’m in the process of doing. Just make sure you can return them.
I got the HK Onyx 9 for half price and that speaker blows my mind. I’ll try bringing it to the beach with me in the summer.
It goes 30hz. Even the tiny 4.5inch woofer on hk onyx 9 has a bass peak at 34hz
hands down onyx 9. proper deep rumble at 30hz. it as a big bass peak at 52ish hz and a secondary peak at 34hz. I had onyx 6 for years and recently got onyx 9. both of these are like a subwoofer when you place the right. they even have proper deep bass even at 10% volume.
onyx 8 vs 9? I have heard people complaining about the onyx 9 crossover and how onyx 8 is louder and more boomy at low volumes
Any of the Harman kardon onyx studios, you can normally find the 8's and 9's on ebay for 100-150 and they put most other portable speakers I've listened to to shame
The 5 is an amazing speaker. I have the 5 and the 9. I've used the 5 a lot more than the 9. Generally speaking, for portable Bluetooth speakers, Harman is in a category of their own achieving such great sound at low wattage.
