If for a football field id go with a speaker that has a tweeter. The charge 5 is the way to go. And if you want something louder just add a another charge 5 or flip 6 later. But as something i would do is try and get a used xtreme 2. It will smash the charges and it will be as good as a xtreme 3 or 4.

JBL Charge 5. We use it in the workshop (dust) and in the smokehouse (humidity and smoke) ands been going on for 2 years now. Keep in mind, that’s everyday use 6h in extreme environments. The housing comes off easily for cleaning as well! Sound is pretty good for the size. Especially thanks to the side subs.

I have a JBL Charge 5 that's pretty nice. I drive a bay truck for work and the radio went out. So I just threw the speaker on the dash. I kept it maybe halfway to 3/4 volume. Battery life is pretty solid and I think the sound is pretty good. But it's pretty noisy in the truck so I'm honestly not too picky. The little mini woofers in the side do a good enough job filling in most of the low frequencies that music never sounds empty or like it's missing something. Bonus that it's waterproof and can help charge your phone if necessary.

So with durability, most of these should be the same. Lighter = less likely to get damaged tho. Real life battery & weight, according to rtings: Charge 5: 14.5 hrs (vs 20hrs), 0.9kg. B & O explorer: 9 hrs (vs 27 hrs), 0.6kg. B & O A1: 4.5 hrs. Flip 6: 6hrs. 0.5kg. Clip 4: 5.5 hrs. 0.2kg. Bose flex: 7.2 hrs. 0.6kg. Given this data & prices, I think your best options are 1) 2 of JBL clip 4 (still lighter and cheaper than others & easily clipped) for portability. 2) B & O explorer for portability & almost 10 hrs (high price). Should be louder & better sound than clip (*"should be" since I didn't have first hand experience with this one, but most reviews says so). 3) charge 5 for loudness and 10+ hours. Sound is much louder and better than clip. Much heavier tho.

As an owner of all 3 I find myself using the flip 6 more often. It sounds amazing at low volumes. Perfect shower speaker, etc. But I loooove the bass in the Xtreme 3. But it doesn’t sound great at low volumes. But it absolutely slaps if you are bumping. Charge 5 is amazing as well but I seem to only use it when I’m doing party boost. I just wish it had some sort of strap or clip. Anyone else have similar experience?

I have the Max and I’m not impressed. The JBL charge 5 I have is less than half the price and has tighter bass with more pronounced mids. The bass on the max is muddy. I’ve tried EQ’ing it but it doesn’t improve. I also have the Boombox 3 which absolutely spanks the max. Also when you join the max with the flex in party mode there is a noticeable delay between each speaker which you don’t get with the JBL.  I’m very disappointed with this offering from Bose.

I found JBL highs to harsh, bose pretty good but not so open , Klipsch missing any lows, and Soundcore...I liked it but when I listened side by side with Luna...well..I ended up with Luna :)

JBL Charge 5 or Charge 4. I'd say go for a used Charge 4, since it sounds argueably better, since Charge 5 has many peaks with It's tweeter at higher frequencies. Used Charge 4s come on comical prices, such as 50-80€. You save a lot of money, have more features such as the aux port, good battery life, very loud and bassy sound, but also pretty balanced overall.

If that’s the case just get a charge series speaker it weights 2lbs and is going to give you the most sound in that size for factor. It has no clip for it but they also sell $10 silicone cases that let you clip the speaker onto your bag. I hike with a largeish group and I take lead and have the speaker on my backpack facing the rest of the group. This works quite well because when we have to speak to each other I turn around and the music is facing away from us. They can hear it perfectly without turning up the volume and we never sneak up on black bears anymore. I take it water rafting and to the beach all the time. At the beach I put it in my umbrella canopy facing downward at myself and it’s like surround sound. I have every size JBL and I abuse them but after a few uses I wipe them down with armor all and they all look brand new after years of usage.

Play them at the same volume indoors. The xtreme will destroy it. The bass is deeper but not powerful enough to be noticeable outdoors. The charge 5 plays upper bass frequencies which are easily heard in almost any environment even outdoors. Deep bass needs hard surfaces to bounce off or more power to hear it out in the open. It’s really just a logistics issue with size and power and what frequencies it plays because the boombox doesn’t have this issue since it’s more bigger and powerful.

Charge 5 plays 60hz-20khz. 60hz is the upper limit of the sub bass frequency. Do you know how sound works?

JBL • Xtreme3 is not that great?! ->
Reddit Icon
SomeGuy2088 • 3 months ago

For technicality yes that’s what I meant. The higher up the frequency response the easier it is to hear it out door or at low volume. I was using upper as higher frequency. The lower the frequency the more power is needed to hear the sounds with human ears.

Im owner of a charge 5 and Extreme 4, and I love both. The charge 5 is great at medium volume for smaller rooms, and I love the portability of the Extreme 4. Only problem I have is the bottom feet of the Charge 5 and all the other speakers of its generation. They fall off so easily and are a mess to glue back on. I just wonder how it got through quality check. Good thing is that they fixed that issue with the new gen.

Best waterproof with aesthetics and great sound included are generally jbl's. A charge 5 you can maybe find for 100$ sometimes, going bigger would be the xtremes, and while those are not that much more powerful than the charge 5, the bass hits deeper and have a wider soundstage as well as carry strap if you're into that But yeah, for 200$, you can maybe find an xtreme 3, but while the xtreme 3 looks better than the 4(in my oppinion) it's worth it to go for the xtreme 4 for something over 200$ as it has removeable battery Charge 5 is waterproof, relatively cheap with the quality it provides and rugged af so it should satisfy you

If the eq is all you really like better, then just get the charge 5 and a good free eq app on the play store. JBL's app is ridiculously limited for how much they charge for speakers, so I have 3 different eq apps that I rotate trying to find the best sound for the volume and music I'm listening to.

I've been looking for a supplementary to my old Wonderboom 2 with a focus on outside-playing and budget. I also listen to a wide variety of genres including hip hop, metal, ambient and many others. I've played and tested three speakers over a few days: the JBL Charge 5, the Ankar Boom 2, and the EarFun Uboom L. However the latter is realistically in a lower category and so I won't compare it directly. I also won't rehearse all the features and specifications that can be found in other reviews. This is really just a rough summary of my thoughts based around my own needs and likes. **Price** All 3 of these are on deals through Amazon UK. The Charge 5 came in at about £125, the Ankar Boom 2 £95, and the Uboom L £70. I usually see the Ankar Boom 2 compared to the more powerful JBL Xtreme 3 but due to this lower price I think it's fair to compare it to the Charge 5. **Sound** My immediate reaction to the Charge 5 was a tad disappointed. The first song I played happened to be [a slightly rough-mixed emo rap sorta song](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_JIsgkAC0g) with a guitar part that was practically inaudible on the Charge 5. I was also disappointed to see such limited EQ settings on the companion app. I am only able to change frequencies according to 3 broad Bass, Mid or Treble categories across along 5 levels. After much experimentation I have settled back on the default, as the bass doesn't really need boosting, and boosting the mids and highs is too blunt and harsh to really fix any of the issues in those frequencies. The Soundcore doesn't really have these issues from the more limited time I have spent with it. It is also more powerful, louder and has even bigger bass than the Charge 5, making it more ideal for outside listening. Furthermore, the app allows a really in-depth customisation of EQ settings. This is especially good as the soundstage and clarity of the Ankar Boom 2 appear somewhat inferior to the JBL Charge 5, which despite its bizarre frequency response is pretty clear and punchy with nearly all the styles of music I have tested on it at the standard EQ. The Ankar Boom 2 however, clearly needs some varied EQ adjustments to adapt to different styles of music. The default EQ is pretty harsh, and this speaker has a tendency to sound a bit too...boomy, even compared to the Charge 5. I have seen a particularly bass-heavy EQ setting lobbied around, which I used as a base, but I found it far too bass-heavy and absolutely horrendous for metal, with all the mids-scooped out. I am still experimenting on finding a standard general EQ I can use, before perhaps making some variations for different styles. Based on all this, I'd say the Charge 5 still arguably has the better sound, and would be my choice indoors (it's still great outdoors). But for my needs and the outside factor I'm leaning towards the Ankar Boom 2. **Features** I won't dwell on this. I don't intend on using the multi-speaker modes any time soon and I don't really care for bass-boosters. The Charge 5 is ip67 whereas the Boom 2 is ipx7, but if it's waterproof it's pretty much dustproof too. I will say, the Charge 5 is clearly the prettier and more exclusive-looking speaker, but both are meant to be waterproof and shockproof. The app, as I've already mentioned, is a huge benefit of the Boom 2 compared to the Charge 5 for me, but I appreciate many might not care for that. Ignoring the custom EQ options and relying on the default sound, I would definitely lean toward the Charge 5. However, I like that the Boom 2 has a handle, which makes it somewhat more portable despite its larger size. Another cool thing about the Ankar Boom 2 is the light show, though I don't intend on using this excessively. As far as latency goes, I have noticed 0 issues with the Charge 5 but have not tested the Ankar Boom 2 enough. Regardless, it would mainly be a party speaker anyway. Edit: the latency on the Boom 2 seems ok but maybe slightly inferior to the Charge 5. **Uboom L** I pretty quickly discounted this for my needs as it is a lot less powerful than the other 2 and not really suited to the outdoor. However the soundstage and clarity are fantastic and I could easily see this as a direct successor to my Wonderboom 2 if I weren't addicted to the Wonderboom's shape and portability. **Conclusion** All 3 of these are great speakers and they all have something I like more than in the other 2. The Uboom L isn't appropriate for my needs however. The Charge 5 and Ankar Boom 2 both have great sound with specific weaknesses. They both excel at bass-heavy electronic or hip-hop, but not quite so much with rock and metal. The Charge 5 has overall great clarity but treats some frequencies very bizarrely. The Ankar Boom 2 has slightly less clarity overall but seems to me to have a more predictable and customisable sound signature. Despite being in a lower category, the Charge 5 holds up well and doesn't sound too much quieter than the Boom 2 at max volume. But the Boom 2 is clearly better made for those higher volumes. Overall, when considering all these factors, my needs and the price, my inclination is towards the Boom 2. But if it weren't for the EQ being so customisable, there is a good chance I'd swing to the Charge 5. It is also arguably the most versatile as it excels indoors and holds up well outdoors, while being far less bulky and boomy than the Boom 2.

Many people typically own just one or two JBL speakers, but I've had the chance to try nearly all of them, except for the Partybox Ultimate. I do feel that some of their products, particularly the authentic line, can be a bit overpriced. The Partybox series, though, stands out with impressive sound quality that often surpasses competitors like Sony and UE at similar price points. The JBL Charge 5 is a fantastic choice; it's portable, delivers clear sound, and has a nice bass response. I picked it up for $149 AUD, making it a great value. Overall, JBL is a solid brand, but your choice really depends on the type of speaker you need.

I know this post is from a while ago, but I wanted to chime in just in case you're still looking for recommendations. The **Tribit Stormblast** you were leaning toward is definitely a solid choice for bass-heavy genres like dubstep, trap, and drum and bass. It’s got great bass for the price and is waterproof, which makes it perfect for beach trips or tubing. However, if you're still in the market for a new waterproof Bluetooth speaker, these options might catch your interest: 1. **JBL Charge 5** – If you liked the Charge 4, the Charge 5 is even better. It has improved bass and sound quality, plus it's still waterproof (IP67), so it's great for outdoor adventures. 2. **Ultimate Ears Megaboom 3** – It’s been getting a lot of praise for its 360-degree sound and strong bass, making it a great choice for bass-heavy music. Plus, it’s still fully waterproof (IP67) and rugged. 3. **Anker Soundcore Motion+** – This one’s still a strong budget option with impressive bass and waterproofing (IPX7). It gives you great sound for its price range. If you haven't already made a decision, I actually wrote a blog post on the best waterproof Bluetooth speakers that includes various options for different needs, including the bass-heavy sound you're looking for. Feel free to check it out for more info! \[[https://voyedy.com/best-waterproof-bluetooth-speakers/](https://voyedy.com/best-waterproof-bluetooth-speakers/)\] Hope this helps, and happy listening!

Did you end up picking one? I used Rtings.com and was deciding between the Megaboom 3 or 4 and Charge 5. Megaboom has a better outdoor sound stage score, due to the 360* tweeter design. Otherwise the specs are very similar. I went with the Charge 5 because it’s newer tech and can also charge my phone for my upcoming trips. Also currently on sale at Target online for $107.

Sure! There's the Earfun Uboom L if you want some serious listening. It's not exactly neutral as it has a slight high airy treble boost, but it's suuuper well-tuned. Bass can be slightly soft to some people, but I think that's how a clean neutral bass should be anyway. For a more fun sound, hmm I'm not really sure there's quite a few. The Charge 5 has really nice bass for its size, I heard the Soundcore Boom 2 is really good as well (but I haven't heard it in person), the Harman Kardon speakers pretty nice too (Onyx line for the crazy sub-bass and the Go+Plays for a more balanced tuning). I also own a Motion Boom which is really really affordable. However, opposing to wide-spread belief, I find it to have some really annoying mid or upper treble peak idk which I can't seem to get rid of with the in-app EQ. I feel like only if they had given it a fabric grill it would sound awesome. Regardless, it's capable of playing some crazy deep bass though, probably better than the JBL Xtremes (which seems to just be physically bigger and more powerful)!!

Yes, i have owned JBL speakers, more specifically, 2 JBL Partybox Encore Essential and 2 JBL Charge 5's. The partyboxes were one of the best speakers i've ever had and the Charge 5's were some really nice speakers, though for me, the Soundcore motion+ mentioned in my post has better overall sound and soundstage. The only problem i had with JBL is that the Charge 5's had connectivity issues when paired in stereo. The best speaker that i own right now is my Bose soundlink Max. It has amazing soundstage, impressive bass, and unpaired instrument separation, though is a bit overpriced because you can get something bigger and better for the price, but for the size is the best without a doubt. If you're looking to switch brands i think that Soundcore is your best option, because Sony speakers are still mediocre unless you buy the Big ones, and Bose is overpriced and has no variety. Though i have to say that maybe your experience was simply bad luck, because for the majority of people here, JBL is the brand that is leading in terms of portable speakers. It has speakers for every size and use, it is relatively affordable and has great sound on all of their speakers. Still, to make my recommendations, for something cheap and nice, you can look for the Soundcore motion+ and Soundcore motion 300 (i have both). For bigger options, Soundcore boom 2, earfun uboom X, or tribit stormbox blast.

People is saying the opposite but i had the same experience. It loses all of its bass past 70% and the overall detail and clarity is not as good as on the Charge 5, strangely, and it doesn't even sound THAT loud.

I had 2 JBL Charge 5's and tbh i never really liked them that much. For sure the sound quality was on point, but the fact that they were mono speakers was always a bit of a deal breaker for me, because it is very noticeable, not because of the stereo separation (like hearing something on the left and something on the right) but because of the overall soundstage. It also had other problems like not being able to equalize the speakers when they are paired in stereo, that was a problem for me because i'm a basshead and i don't like how bright is the stock signature EQ of the Charge 5's, also, the fact that they didn't even have a small strap made it so that i ended up using more my other speakers instead of the charge 5's even if the charge 5's sounded better, because having to carry it with your entire hand and grabbing the entire body of the speaker wasn't particularly of my liking for carrying it around with music outside, and putting them inside a bag was always a problem because of how "fragile" and easy to tear off the feet of the speakers are, and the logo on the front is extremely easy to scratch, just look at any used JBL speaker, the logo is almost always the thing that reveals that they're used speakers. Right now all of my speakers are stereo and i am very happy with that. Now i have a Bose soundlink Max and even though it is bigger and heavier i ended up using it more than the JBL Charge 5 because it solves all of those problems while also sounding better and louder.

Well, i had a JBL Charge 5 and a JBL Xtreme 3 and the difference in terms of bass was definetly noticeable, on the Xtreme 3 you could feel the bass and it was definetly deeper, though the Max volume difference wasn't THAT Big and actually, for overall sound quality (not focused on bass) i looked more the Charge 5. I see you are mainly looking for bass and some reviewers say that the Xtreme 3 has deeper bass than the Xtreme 4, but the Xtreme 4 has more definition and clarity in the mids and highs.

I recieved my new Ult Field 1 yesterday and i've been doing some tests comparing it to both of my JBL Charge 5's, TL and TT versions. Today i wanted to test the bass so i put my usual bass test video wich goes from 100hz to 20hz with 5hz steps and i discovered that when the Charge 5 goes below 60hz, the volume decreases significantly when in the other hand, my Sony Ult Field 1 kept almost the same good volume on the bass up to 50hz. Below that, on 45hz the bass on the Charge 5 completely dissapears when the Sony still kept reproducing the frequency at a reasonably audible volume. Any thoughts about this? Has anyone tested it? This shocked me because many reviewers and people in general tend to say that the JBL FLIP 6 has a deeper bass than the Sony and even though i don't have the Flip 6, taking in count what the Sony managed to do here, it just cannot be true that the Flip 6 has a better bass response. The Sony basically reached the JBL Xtreme 3 frequency response being a quarter of it's size. On rtings.com page, the Sony ult field 1 reached a low-frequency response of 55.8hz, the Flip 6 reached 75.5hz, the Charge 5 reached 58.2hz, and the Xtreme 3 reached down to 55hz. I saw those charts before recieveng my Ult Field 1 and i thought that they did something wrong in the tests but it just proved me wrong. NOTE: both of my Charge 5's we're equalized with the bass turned all the way up and tested on the same phone and same place so there's no excuses here.

JBL basically aims for everything but it is widely known for it's bass and volume for the size. Even though in this test the Sony won, i still think that JBL is the king of the bass on portable speakers nowadays because this is only one speaker and JBL wins in any other size or model. Sony older portable speakers are just bad and can't compete with current JBL models, this was an exception. Though i think that the possibly upcoming Sony Ult Field 3 and 5 have the potencial to be the best portable speakers.

I literally made my entire post saying that i TESTED it and compared it myself, i heard it myself. It does go deeper. And i know about sony's 20hz claim on their page, i'm not basing my facts on that at all; the page that i mentioned is RTINGS.COM wich is a page that does detailed speaker reviews, they have a whole speaker testing method and even tell you the level of distortion of them.

I actually think that this happens because JBL optimized their Charge 5 to go only up to 60hz because is already a good frequency range and maybe that leaves enough room to give the speaker more volume without distorting the bass or something like that.

I can agree that the Charge 5 is a better overall speaker but there's a size difference wich plays a huge role. I was just commenting that it's still an amazing achievement for a speaker that size to reach 45hz. Thanks for your opinion!

No problem, and yeah though it is technically true that if you use it at 50% volume it could last you 12 hours, a speaker that sounds so good just makes you want to crank up that volume! If you want any opinions/recommendations though, right now my favourite and the one that i'm gonna stay with is the Earfun Uboom L (i've had Soundcore motion 300, JBL flip 6, Sony ULT Field 1, Soundcore Motion+, JBL Charge 5, etc). You might be surprised, but that single 10 band equalizer is what makes it so good, because you can have the clarity and brightness of the Flip 6 while having the strong deep bass of the Ult Field 1. Just to compare, it goes deeper and way louder than the ULT Field 1, and i think that on indoor Mode it has a deeper bass than the Charge 5, while in outdoor mode it gives an amazing party soundstage, and i also think that it goes the same loudness of the Charge 5, at least with high volume equalizers. The battery life is a bit better than the Sony too!

Man, i literally mentioned that the Ult Field 1 mantains a good volume on bass down to 45hz while the Charge 5 died at that same frequency, you didn't even read my post at all, or do i have to explain that 45hz is a deeper frequency response than 60hz? It seems like you don't know what is deep bass. You are extremely biased.

The flip 6 sounds very good, is not as loud as the charge 5 , if you want the best bass, get the charge 5. As of right now, the Xtreme 4 launched, so the Xtreme 3 is sold with discount, in my case I bought the Xtreme 3 instead of the charge 5, the charge 5 was 170€and the Xtreme 3 200€, if you find the Xtreme 3 at about 200€ defently buy it instead of the charge 5, the bass frequencies are much lower , so more bass and fuller sound, and you can use it as a PC/tv speaker because it has an aux input , the charge/flip don't have

I agree. Well the xtreme 3 is kinda useless in that comparison, considering that even the charge 5 is larger than the flex 2 gen. Bose definitely killed it with the 2nd gen. Those who say otheriwise live under a rock. Iv'e been using the charge 5 since it came out, and now the flex gen 2 is my go 2 speaker most of the time for this size, including the harman kardon luna and some more competitors. I use quite a different eq for the bose, i feel like it lacks mids when keeping the eq flat, so i boost mids and a little bit highs. The flex gen 2 is the least noticeable to be mono out of all the mono speakers i have, it spreads the sound so impressively considering the small round driver that is placed on one side of the speaker. The clarity is top notch, absolutely zero static noise or bluetooth interruption sounds, feels like i'm using it with aux which it doesn't have. And the build, structure, shape, size, are all perfect for making it a nice little convenient package.

It really doesn't bro🤣🤣 the charge 5 is physically larger, it has a larger driver. The sony has more bass than the flip 6, not the charge 5. And let me remind you, even the old sony XB models used to claim 20 hz, but when you tested those frequencies you heard fake humming. It never reached that low and it can't. Sony are known for doing that since their XB30 and XB40 speakers

Lol dude, i know your claim and it's far from being accurate. Sony tuned the ult 1 to have warm and upperbass sound signature. Which some people that don't know what deep bass is, will claim that the sony has more bass, but it doesn't. The charge 5 has more deep bass than the sony.. it's a fact The sony has more upper bass because they tuned it to have more upper bass. And it sounds more "phat" to some people. But i ain't buying it

Real 45 cannot be produced by a speaker this small. You never really hear that in actuall music unless it's a frequency test where sony is on purpose uses fake humming that makes it sound like it reaches down to 45 but it never did and never will🤣

I really don't need to man, i hear them how they are And i know how each one is tuned. If you use the ULT button, you drive the woofer way more than you do on the charge 5 at low volumes So to compare both to be fair, add more bass on the eq of the charge 5. Then it will be fair. But even then, both are very different sounding. The charge 5 is brighter, more vshaped than the sony. The sony has more covered smoother highs. But it's not necessarily better. The impact of the bass is stronger on the charge 5. It has more watts and surface area on the driver. It had larger passive radiators to push more air, it's a larger speaker.

Flip 6, Beosound A1 2nd gen, or Sony Ult Field 1 or JBl charge 5 Charge 5 has teh best sound, but is the heaviest and biggest. Next best is a1, but is overly expensive. Flip 6 is also very good size to sound ratio. Ult 1 has similar sound quality as Flip 6, but is slightly larger, but has the more flexible strap for attaching/carrying, has speakphone function included, and can also stand upright, so its the most versatile device.

So I would recommend starting collecting charge 5s. The Flip has much reduced ranged, so i'd go with the charge not the flip. downside: a little expensive Sony has the xe300, which is slightly bigger and sounds a little less good than the charge, but it may be cheaper and those remember the pairing (with jbl you have to go throuh the pairing process again after turning off and on another time). Theres also the smaller xe200, but the sound is not that good. if you consider buying used, the sony xb33 would be a great choice, i have 2 and can recommend them a portable and pairable outdoor speakers. They are also compatible with the newer models. And they have light effects if you want them. with soundcore you could go with the new souncore glow, which also has some lights as extras.

Consider whether you would rather buy her a JBL Charge 5 or 4 or Charge Essential 2 (which is based on the Charge 4 but with a newer Bluetooth version). The Charges are simply JBL's best ultra portable speakers and offer so much more sound and fun for just a little more money. Yes, the JBL Charge is a bit heavier and a bit larger than the JBL Flip, but that's within reason and the added value totally makes up for it. In addition, the look of the JBL Charges is absolutely awesome. If you order directly from JBL, you will always find a 10% discount code somewhere (e.g. on YouTube).👍🏻😊

I really enjoy the Charge 5. It's the first "big" portable speaker I bought for myself, and I started off with one Charge 5 initially and thought it sounded great; clear sound and clean bass for its size. Then I bought another since I wanted to pair them for stereo sound, and was even more impressed with sound quality (even though the EQ is set to flat when in stereo mode and you can't adjust it). I wanted more portability and later bought a Flip 6. The sound is pretty good on the Flip 6 but I prefer the Charge 5 over the Flip 6 for sound. I have since bought a JBL Authentics 200 (not a portable speaker) which is now my go-to when listening to music at home, and only been using the Charge 5 in the shower. I used to bring the Charge 5 with me when going to places but that's been replaced with the Flip 6 since it's a more travel friendly size to me. Like someone else said, I agree the Charge 5 gives you the best bang for the buck for this size speaker, and the battery life is amazing.

Not a bunch but a solid group. JBL Encore Essential - Use that for my office when I want loud so that I can focus work or karaoke with my daughter. JBL PartyBox 110 - That’s for the party and for get togethers. Hangout outside and use it. I do also bring the Encore around but the 110 is a better battery life. This doesn’t get used as much as I can’t blast it all the time and the encore and charge 5 are good enough for me on the daily. JBL Charge 5 - I use this the most in my bedroom hanging out using my iPad or laptop. Bring it everywhere when I want music for myself, podcast or movies on the iPad. Definitely my overall favorite. I use it also to fall asleep to listening to podcast or calm music. JBL Go 4- I bring this for trips to listen to podcast, music. It’s so light and easy to pack or pocket. TRIBIT Micro 2 - Also a travel speaker or just bring around my house with me ifI don’t feel like lugging the charge 5 around. My daughter uses it a lot more now because I use my Go 4 if I want to go around with something lighter. I do like the tribit sound better for sure but the Go 4 is so light and easy to bring around and the sound is decent to me. Bose Micro Soundlink - Strictly used as a bathroom speaker now but it so damn good I’ll take my ti,e while in there lol. Sounds amazing still but it uses micro usb so that’s annoying now. Obviously I’m a JBL fan but I’m open to looking at the W KING D20 for beach days because of the price and it uses usb c to charge.

No you won't get close to the bass on the jbl party box with the charge or flip. It decent for a small room or just to bring around the house with you or travel. You'll want to go with the Tribit Storm Blast to get the most bass at 150 buck mark. It's also waterproof so it can stay in your bathroom. Since you mentioned hiking probably the Flip 6 which has solid bass for its size and is pretty portable. JBL Clip is another option but it doesn't get very loud.

For its size, it's the best in its class. I take mine in the shower all the time and get it soaked, it stays clipped to my back pack as I travel and I clip it to the handlebars when I am on a bicycle or on my belt loop when I am mobile. I dont travel without this thing.. For something a little louder, I would recommend the JBL Charge 5 or sound core motion boom but that is for the hotel room.. not for out and about for the day.. the Tribute will also pair stereo mode and party mode.. its a great speaker and blows any clip speaker out of the water..

I would go Charge 5. Charge 5 is on sale for $139.95. I'm gonna be honest. I'm not sure how much of a step up upgrade or downgrade the Flip 5 to the Flip 6. But, I had the Flip for 5 years. I just got the Charge 5 a few weeks ago and the sound quality between the Flip 5 and Charge 5 is signicant. I feel the bass was more pronounced, punchy, attacky if it makes sense with Flip 5 than the Charge 5. Everything else though. A lot bigger sound.

imo because you got the Partybox and they have significant difference in size so ofc the sound doesn't come to your expectation. C5 produces GREAT bass and power considering its size and the compact. Sure the sound quality is not as good compared to its retail price (except for the bass) but other elements makes up for it and its really a solid speaker imo. U also need sometimes to adjust your hearing to feel the sound of a new speaker when ur already used to the sound of ur old one. And dont turn your volume up over 80% because it kills any speaker over time, they aren't actually designed to be played at max all the time tbh

As described before: We feel you on the bass reduction with high volume, it is too noticable, it irks me too, but given the dimensions, you are NOT getting more anyways. Every single decibel increase, especially in bass region, will get exponentially more expensive. The Charge 5 is/was very fairly priced product for what it is, and very good for its size. Sorry to hear you are unsatisfied.

BTW OP, for reference, the bass 'falloff' or compression is identical to your partybox 110. Both the charge 5 and partybox 110 have a DRC of 3dB, which means when playing at max volume the bass on average is 3dB quieter than the rest of the frequencies played from the speaker at max volume. The difference is the max SPL of the charge 5 is 89dB and your PB110 is 98dB. So hearing 95db of bass is a lot, but hearing 86dB relative to 89dB is going to seem noticeable quiet. Expecting good bass performance at high volumes from such a small speaker is asking to defy physics, theres only so much you can get out of a small driver without having to pump more power into it, which will make it more heavy, bigger and cost more. The reason the charge 5 is so highly praised is because of its output for its size, for the same price you can get the Soundcore Boom 2, which is almost 3x the size and 1.5x the weight, yet its performance is practically identical to the charge 5. similar frequency response, same 'problem' where the bass struggles at high volumes at almost the same proportion. But the JBL will sound a lot better and it's 2/3 of the weight so its super portable. If you really care for that then the boombox 3 is honestly the king of flat responses at max volume. The bass can keep up all the way to 100% which is far better than any other speasker on the market afaik. For reference, the max SPL of the boombox 3 is similar to the charge 5 (91dB vs 89dB) , but it weighs like 7x more, is 12x the size and cost 4x more. But the bass response is completely flat at max volume. Thats the sort of power and size required comparable to the charge 5 to get that perfect bass performacne you want. Theres not much any speaker company can do at the size of the charge 5 to get that level of performacne unfortunately. Sorry for this long ramble lol, I just got curious about the numbers because I also have a charge 5 wifi as well as a boombox and other speakers Source: [https://www.rtings.com/speaker/tools/compare/jbl-charge-5-vs-jbl-boombox-3/21575/31312](https://www.rtings.com/speaker/tools/compare/jbl-charge-5-vs-jbl-boombox-3/21575/31312)

Out of curiosity I looked on rtings and theres practically no difference. Charge 5 has a SPL of 89, Xtreme 3 is 91. Low end extention is practically the same, 58hz vs 55hz. Both have pretty awful dynamic range compression at max volume (xtreme 3 is worse) so its no wonder they sound the same at max volume, neither have any bass, and the charge 5 have better sounding drivers since its newer. Its not a surprise you think the charge 5 sounds better. Others are right when they say the soundstage is far better on the xtreme, its stereo whereas the charge 5 is mono. Highs and mids definitely sound as if a cloth is on it, regardless of the EQ. The Charge 5 is a more "right" sounding speaker. And in this category, I'd put the Bose Flex over both. Sounds good at any volume and holds its bass without muddling the highs. You have to put the Bose on its back though for the EQ change. Having it stand upright, takes it a step down in clarity.

The very highly rated Marshall Acton 3 is the most balanced. I got it at for $179 Target clearance last week. It absolutely destroyed everything I had! (Soundcore x600, Bose Flex, Flip 6, Charge 5, Sony ULT Field 1, W-King 10). The bass is strong, right, deep, and the mids/highs doing get drowned out with volume. It's loud and even balanced across its volume range. This IS a speaker. The rest are toys that peter out with more volume

I had a JBL charge 3 that lasted for about 5 or 6 years with a battery replacement. The speaker drivers blew, and unfortunately JBL does not sell them, and I couldn’t find any direct fit aftermarket anywhere, which was kind of a bummer. I ended up getting a Charge 5 about a year ago which is good. But I guess if you want to find one that is Buy It for Life, look to see if they have replaceable drivers and if they sell them separately.

I just got the Xtreme 3 for Chrismas and the first couple of days I wasn't a big fan. I wondered if my Charge 4 (which i have used for 3 or 4 years now) is better. But those doubts passed once I got used to the bass. I used it at 2 partys and everyone tought it's so much better + it's a lot louderthe only thing that bothers me now is a kind of white noise while the music is playing. I mean the noise is really quiet but when I'm alone in my room and the volume is down I can hear it and I'm not a big fan. Otherwise I find it great for partys or when you're outside, so if you like listening music with your friends it's a good choice, BUT if you're gonna listen only at home when you're by yourself I consider the Charges 4 and 5 a better option moneywise

no, i was not happy with mine at all it sounds terrible because it's a mono speaker and the tweeter just sounds harsh and also way too much bass, so much to the point that it's unusable in a small room or a shower because it just muffles all the other sound and the shockingly poor build quality, the rubber on the bottom started peeling off within the first week of owning it there's no place in this world for a $150 mono speaker, stereo has been the standard for years, it's an obvious cashgrab from JBL and Samsung to get you to buy a 2nd one for stereo sound or upgrade to one that has stereo if you really need a JBL speaker with a power bank then just get a charge 3 or charge essential 1st gen instead of this hunk of JUNK!

Hi, I understand you look for a large (powerful) speaker but still on a very limited budget - right? If yes, you will not find well-known brands. I can tell you that the W-KING D8 is selling these days a lot, also the YIER Bluetooth Speaker which is bigger. If you want more well-known brands in that price range, you will have to compromise on power (they are smaller) and stretch your budget to the $130-150 range - for example the JBL Chrage 5, or Soundcore Boom 2. Have you checked the link I shared above? Worth checking, use the filter inside to understand better your options. I hope this helps.

Find a good spot to place the JBL Charge 5 and the bass becomes boomier. Bass sounds great in my small bedroom especially with my PB Encore. Obviously the bass on the Charge 5 will not fill a larger room. The Charge 5 goes on sale in the US for $89 or $119.

I say this because I have 5 Bose Bluetooth speakers I got through a rewards program at work (2x Soundlink Revolve+, 1 Soundlink Color, and 2x Soundlink Micros), and I routinely have functionality problems with all of them, and have from the get It is a rare occasion that there is Not an error when attempting to use standard features, especially trying to put them in "Party Mode", which often takes 4-5 rounds of "Something went wrong" error messages before sometimes working. Not to mention the frequency I have to hard connect units to my laptop and manually go I to Advance mode and force an update that the speaker erroneously tells me is already complete🙄 A buddy has a Charge 5 and the bass response is much better, and clarity comparable IMHO.

JBL Charge 5 hands down. Loud enough to be heard from a solid distance, but light enough to not cause too much weight. But if you're gonna do music, be courteous. I only play at max volume on loud busy streets with no pedestrians, and I always turn it way down when I'm going slow so that people aren't burdened with my music for longer than a second. I also rarely play anything explicit or edgy when kids are around. Don't worry about the haters in this thread, as nobody really cares about your music as long as you're not annoying with it.
