MarvinG1984 1.0Most of my speakers, and I have plenty of them, the sweetspot sits somewhere around 70 - 75% volume. With the Charge 5 at 75%, it sounded like a kitchen radio. Luckily I got it during Black Friday for "only" $103 USD. IMO still too expensive for what it is. Forget about the retail price at $179, you must be insane or don't care about money to drop that kind of dough on this speaker.

If it does sound indeed better, than the regular Charge 5, $140 is fair. But yeah, I will never recommend the Charge 5 to anyone, after my experience. Matter of fact, I will sh\*t on it continuously if I see it recommended here.
Just be aware, the Charge 5 rolls off bass after 50%. Anything above this, and the bass will not increase. At least that was my experience.
Well most, if not all of my speakers have a sweet spot around 75%. With the Charge 5 at 75% volume, all I heard was mids and highs and a tiny amount of bass. For a retail price of $180 dollars, the Charge 5 is useless for me outdoors.
Way overpriced. The Charge 5 cuts out bass after 50% volume. My Soundcore Motion Boom, which I got for $80, goes louder with deeper bass.
dr-phils-taint 0.7JBL charge series is always a great buy, With a $150 budget. I have had my JBL charge 3 since 2018, only recently upgraded to the party box series, because I wanted something bigger and with way more bass. For a desk speaker the charge 4-5 is perfect, it has enough bass with EQ added. The flip and the other smaller ones that you can clip on, are going to be slightly quiet compared to the charge series. The charge series is the happy medium between good sound and portability.

Additional-Train419 0.5Jbl charge 5. Ive abused two of them extremely hardly for two years and they still work. The cosmetics like the mettal logo will scratch and even fly out after big abuse but i can safely say the speaker holds 3 story drops fine and even works after burning in a fire pit for a minute. Also you can submerge it for 24h+ and it will still work fine. The battery will be the thing the gives out first but thats after 4 years or so.
105db? Thats complete bullshit, i got a jbl charge 6 louder and that clocks at 101,3db(A) and for the 250$ price tag it has worse specs/performance then a charge 6/5. It has worse SPL, worse clarity, worse battery, and worse bass response although durability is mostly equal as far as i have abused both (ranger and charge 6).

If you like your music slightly laid back maybe get the charge 5 over the 6
6 is brighter, more aggressive. 5 is warmer, more gentle listening.

anne_hcy 0.5my jbl charge 5 has been around for 3 years but a few months ago, the battery has degraded and it wouldnt play properly if its not connected to a power source. as a heavy bluetooth speaker user, i’d say it was pretty worth it bc i got it for only a hundred bucks back in 2022 and it lasted me quite a while. my charge 5 still works (plugged in) but i still got myself a charge 6 two weeks ago 😁
