Get a charge 6 trust, more power and db plus bigger drivers they are larger by a few mm in length and width.

I'm a huge jbl fan boy but this is where I disagree the new flip 7 I belive has 35 or 40 watts and the charge 6 has 45 most bookshelf speakers are 20 to 50 watts per enclosure even with the bookshelves being at the minmum it still can be pushed to its max without compressing unlike the jbls after 70% the jbls dsp kicks in and compresses low to low mid frequencies to help reduce distortion and keep clarity unlike bookshelves where you can push them and push them with keeping the spl of all frequencies somewhat the same and when distortion happens guess what just dial back the gain a bit , pair that with components that are designed to have a flat frequency response and an amp with lets say a 12 band eq or even a 6 band eq and now you have a fully customizable sound stage and eq, now let's argue yes the new jbl gens do have a 12 band eq but not only does jbls amp have a preset eq and dsp but much like the partyboost I bet you when the auracast is active it will turn off custom eqs to keep the fr the same through both enclosures yes you have system eqs on Android and there are apps that let you controll the signals eq but either way the preset dsp will compress and compress the signal the more you mess with the eq unlike vintage equipment or bookshelf speakers in general they not only have flat response drivers but they have an actual enclosure not just for increased fr but spl aswell. You have to think about it too both enclosures are for a completely different purpose. The cheapest hifi system will blow two flip 6s or charge 6s out of the water no doubt maybe not in db but most definitely in quality of sound and low to subsonic fr. Now let's say op were to get two jbl bb3s now you are talking that's something that will contest with most bookshelf speakers or hifi systems, sure you won't have that flat response but the bb3 is pretty wide (in the fr) and has a a 3 way setup that's an effecient setup especially when put into stereo mode now you have two mids two tweeters and a dedicated sub for the left and right channel now that's gonna blow this setup out the water. Jbl definitely does have hifi components but not on their small to mid sized portable speakers like for example idk if anyone else feels like this but jbls (samsung, harman Kardon) drivers tuning is very high pitched with sub bass and low mids? Even on the mid woofers it lacks detail and the tweeters have to much presence.

105db? Thats complete bullshit, i got a jbl charge 6 louder and that clocks at 101,3db(A) and for the 250$ price tag it has worse specs/performance then a charge 6/5. It has worse SPL, worse clarity, worse battery, and worse bass response although durability is mostly equal as far as i have abused both (ranger and charge 6).

Bose soundlink flex 2 has great bass for on the go. Especially for it's size. If you play with the eq in the bose app and put it in the corner. It sounds way bigger that it's size. Earfun Uboom X is also great. Its larger but almost the same price as the bose. The bass on it is fantastic. Devialet Mania is an wonderful sounding speaker. Big bass, great highs, and a big price haha 😉 Jbl flip 7 or charge 6 are great for outdoor usage.

Yeah that's my issue ; really wanna just get the 6 because of the quality, not the BS but now seeing the Soundcores are louder , idk if I should just get an Encore instead of wait and actually get a nice Bookshelf pair for my player.

Oh absolutely 💯💯💯 That's why I was alluding to that instead of getting the charge 6 like I've been planning too but now that I've seen the soundcore does go louder. I mindswell spend the extra whatever for the encore with the %20 off it's not much more but again at that price point I really need to just get some speakers for my table

Charge 6 is brand new, but Charge 5 is practically the same but should now be ~$130 or so, definitely much better sound quality than Flip series, louder and longer battery too!

I'd recommend the Charge 6 over the Flip 7 if you're looking to go with JBL, or maybe the Bose SoundLink Max, if you've got deep pockets. The Flip 7 isn't that big of an improvement compared to the Flip 6. There's some minor improvements, but the Charge 6 now has a carry handle so its pretty easy to carry around compared to older Charges.

Honestly, if it's just for the bedroom, I'd go for the smaller [JBL Charge 6](https://www.soundguys.com/jbl-charge-6-review-132332/) and use the 7-band EQ in the companion app to adjust the amount of bass to your liking.

DaveCarr_SG • 4 months ago

It really depends on what you need. The JBL Charge 6 is a smaller speaker with great sound and a premium, ultra durable build. The Soundcore Boom 2 doesn't quite match that build quality, but it gets louder, hits harder with more bass, and packs in more features. If raw performance or value is your priority, the Boom 2 wins. But if you don't need 80W of power or care about the LED light show, and just want something more backpack friendly or nicer looking, then the Charge 6 is the way to go.

Thanks for sharing my link! The JBL Charge 6, Flip 7, and the 2024 Beats Pill are the only Bluetooth speakers that I'm aware of that offer lossless audio. But yeah, it's only over a USB-C wired connection. You can't even run a second one for stereo performance in wired mode either, so you're stuck with mono.

Not sure about 5 speakers as I only have 2. I assume it will eventually disconnect with some distance but I'm impressed with how far away my two speakers can be from each other. I have the JBL Charge6 and the JBL Flip7. The Charge6 is my host speaker. I keep it in one room at the corner of my house. The Flip7 maintains a connection no matter where I put it in my house with the farthest distance from the host speaker being about 60' and that's through multiple walls as well. I haven't yet tried it at any greater distance.

When hiking, you probably don't want to lug around a speaker as big as the Soundcore Boom 2 plus or Rockster Cross (the first generation of which, by the way, is available in Germany for around 80 euros). I would rather go for the Charge 6 or, alternatively, the Teufel Rockster Go 2. But if you really want a boombox-class speaker, check out the EarFun UBOOM X. No other speaker currently offers better value for money. And it's superior to the Soundcore Boom 2 Plus in terms of sound quality.

I bought a pair of SL Plus for stereo mode and with stock EQ they do sound rather boomy, but to my surprise the mids and highs didn't sound muffled which was the impression I got from listening to many reviews of the SL Max. I am using mine in a small room with not much soft furnishings so that doesn't help with the low end. I found the EQ pretty good though for taming the bass. The Charge 6 looks a very decent speaker for the price and is probably a better buy for most until Bose drop the price of the SL Plus.

Garbage is a ridiculous thing to say, sure they are not audiophile speakers for serious listening, but they sound great when the EQ is tuned. HEAD Acoustics have an MQDAS score for different aspects of audio quality and the SL Plus score 3.3 (considered high for a bluetooth speaker) vs 2.7 for JBL Charge 6. Honestly I always like to recommend a jbl charge 5/6 (if you have the extra money to spend on the 6, go for that). Or the jbl flip 7/6, there both awesome speakers that can get crazy loud when you need them too, but won’t wake the neighbors up when your trying to just listen to music casually.

I owned the Sony Field 3 for a few years and upgraded to [JBL Charge 6](https://www.reviewni.com/product/B0DN35M7S9) recently. Seriously it blew me away. I’ve cycled through a ton of Bluetooth speakers over the years like Bose, Sony, UE, you name it but this one’s something special. First off, the sound out of the box is super clear with solid, punchy bass (not muddy at all), and it fills up my small apartment no problem. I love that you can fine-tune the EQ in the JBL app, but honestly, I didn’t feel much need to tweak it, it sounds awesome as is. Battery life is fantastic. I’ve taken it on a few long days out and never even got close to draining it. It’s also small enough to tag along anywhere, but still packs a surprising 45W punch. For movies or music, streaming through Spotify, it just crushes it and if you’re really into bass, like I am, max out the EQ and it gets that deep thump (with zero distortion, even cranked up). I test-drove it head-to-head against the Sony Field 3 and, IMO, the JBL comes out on top, especially for bass lovers who don’t want to compromise clarity.

Tribit Stormbox Micro 2 decent for the size and weight. I use one on the bike sometimes. .6lbs. Earfun uboom L and the JBL Flip are good soda can size speakers. Both are under 2lbs. Of the speakers you have in mind I would go for the 2.1lb JB charge 6 over the heavy suckers. The Soundcore Moton Boom 2 Is a good & relatively lightweight camping speaker if you want bass. Not too fancy or expensive. 3.6lbs. That is the heaviest speaker I would want to hike with.

I’d say out of those 3 charge6. The plus which I haven’t heard in person yet, probably needs 2 for stereo. I have a sl max and Bose has a unique sound signature that’s not for everyone. Also depends if it’s indoors, small area, or wide open space. I listened to the charge6 and it sounds great imo. The ult3 didn’t impress me but the c6 did.

I have soundlink mini, 2x soundcore 3i in tws for beach, and soundlink max. For you I’d say hop in a store and try some on! The bose flex or boom 2 seem a good fit, abit of background music and left out in the rain no problem. I Listened to a boom 2 during a bbq this past weekend, and it held up just fine for the event it was even on the grass and did just fine. I have seen Bose flex recommended in pairs, so getting one with the option to get another later isn’t a bad idea. Pairing each time is a little work though. Listened to the charge 6 it really packed good punch, the Bose max also good in smaller areas but those could be too loud for your use. My soundcore 3i I use eq to make bass heavy also might be too much sound for your use. I did not like the ult sounds as much but maybe you would if you go listen to them in person. GL!

I have a pair of soundlink max, refurbs can be like $220 not worth $400 imo. I don’t know about battery life as I don’t play it on max but many speakers will drain fast near max. For Bose I think they sound best indoors or in small outdoor areas with walls. In open spaces the max is just ok, indoors it’s a beast. I also like the sound signature of the charge 6. If I had to use the max outdoors on loud volume I would probably just plug them into portable batteries or something, I keep it a rule that all my speakers charge via usbC. I’m also eyeing a pair of soundcore boom 2 plus but they’re way too big for me to carry around and I have no real use for it. The jbl boombox 3 WiFi also slaps and is at Costco for $300 gl!

Depends on what you mean portable is, if its puting it in a backpack, then the max size is the charge 6, but you can probably find a charge 5 for way cheper, and it's almost just as good. If you mean portable as in cary it or just move it from place to place you can find xtreme 4 or 3 and they are better but you can't just put it in a back pack it will take up alot of space, also depends where you are you can find an xtreme 4 for the price od a charge 5 like at target they have some models in Clarence and they are a steal legit.

Id go Xtreme 4. It has insanely good battery life, and is extremely (pun intended) durable as well. You can find them new for like $220. Charge 6 is good too but considering how close it is in price, id get the xtreme instead for sure. It's battery capacity is like twice as big, which if you intend on ever charging a device off of it, is important.

The soundlink plus is a bit disappointing, and is more expensive than the rest. The charge 6 and ULT 3 are great, i'd give the edge to the jbl. The sony has a larger cabinet with a smaller driver, it doesn't produce as much low bass, and it distorts if you try getting some deep bass out of it.

The charge 6 has AAC btw, And eq can help you with reducing brightness and increase the upperbass and mids. But if you didn't like it it's fine. I don't recommend the soundlink plus at least for the current price. I would get the soundlink max, or the marshall middleton 2 if you can find any of those for around 300$. Both are beasts. If those are still too large for you, i'd get the harman kardon luna, i can't think of something smaller that would fit your needs.

The bose has a remarkably balanced sound profile, so it suits most genres. It also has a built-in mic which is nice if you use voice assistant stuff. That said, the jbl charge 6, though larger, is probably better as it gets a touch deeper and noticeably louder than the bose, and its battery life is almost double. The JBL is more expensive but should still fit in your budget. you could also consider the Megaboom 4. It has a touch of extra...boom...but you can EQ that out if you find it too muddy. personally, i really like the 360-degree design as it sounds similar regardless of your listening angle which is handy in a portable speaker.

price to performance probably charge 6, i have used a flip 6 before and that is quite lacking in terms of power especially outdoors. however the charge 6 is actually useable outdoors and is very good indoors. if you step up to the xtreme 4 you really can’t go wrong with it if you find it at a good price. my experience with the xtreme 4 is overall very good, deeper bass, wayy better instrument and vocal separation thanks to the stereo setup, and nice highs. However the charge 6 does have cleaner highs interestingly. So really it’s up to your budget, whatever you can afford it’s gonna be “worth it”.

Interesting, as my wife and I just did our own sound test with the Charge 6 and the SoundLink Plus and found the results totally opposite of the linked review above: almost every song we played, or instrumental, sounded much better on the Plus than the Charge 6. My wife initially like the 6 better but once we did some serious listening she went for the Plus. Vocals sounded much clearer, more lifelike, on it. Also, at lower listening levels the speaker excelled. We also tested the SoundLink Flex and the JBL Xtreme 4. The Flex sounded quite nice, but the Xtreme offered nothing better than the Charge 6 for the money.

What's the frequency scale like on these two? The flex does great with midbass, but it filters out anything below 60hz it seems. I have been testing the charge 6 recently and it digs pretty deep. Not like the xtreme4, but surprisingly well for its size.

Yeah I thought I was a charge fan, replacing my charge 3 and flip 4 with a charge 6. But after getting a flex 2.. I dont really want to listen to the charge up close.. I find the JBL to sound pretty distorting, even comparing it to the Sony ULT field lineup I originally wanted to switchover to. I just want it for the 50-60hz bass it let's out lol I listen to alot of different music categories, so unfortunately the flex can't handle everything like the charge can, as fatiguing as that speaker is. I thought about skipping it for the xtreme4, but imagine lugging that thing into the shower..

Honestly i'd still go with the JBL. bounce looks decent but JBL just has that solid rep for outdoor speakers.

Having used 2 generations of all of their portable speaker lines except for the BOOMBOX (GO/CLIP/FLIP/CHARGE/XTREME) along with the PARTYBOX120, the CHARGE series is my personal favorite. Soundguys says it's a "goldilocks" speaker size, still portable enough (the C6 with the handle especially) while packing a decent amount of sound/loudness and I agree. For ultraportables I've always liked the GO series, they're super easy to hold in your hand and feel good. In summary, if buying a JBL speaker right now/I could only have one JBL speaker, I'd go for the CHARGE6 or if portability is the primary concern, the GO4.

Would perhaps you care to specify the exact specs of the speakers and the amp? I got the Flip 6 recently which is pretty much identical to the Flip 7 sound wise and I was vastly disappointed with its' outdoors capacity. It is a small room/apartment speaker at most. The Charge 5/6 delivers great performance/portability ratio. The Xtreme 3 was a huge letdown outdoors as well, you just expect more from a speaker of that size. I never owned a Boombox but from what I read it is a huge upgrade on the Xtreme. So if size/portability is secondary to you - don't cheap out and get the Boombox. If portability is important go with the Charge 6.

JBL Charge 5/6 good sound quality. UE MegaBoom 4 good 360 sound. If you need it louder it goes up in size...

Yeah, realistically that isn't going to happen, replacing 10 speakers with 1-3 is tough as it is, much less when those 10 speakers were designed for the space they are in and those 1-3 are jammed into an enclosure with the amp and battery in a single unit... I mean the closest you will get is a one of the big JBL Party Boxes which honestly isn't very portable at like 75 pounds and 45 inches tall, not to mention they run a grand or so. If you just want decent sound quality -AND- portability the JBL Flip, Charge, or even the Extreme series are pretty decent, but for high end quality you are going to be going well over the $500 mark... KEF, Bowers & Wilkens, Sonos, etc. And Bose... Yeah, I am not a huge fan... I would take the Infinity system in my Hyundai over it in a heartbeat for sound quality.

I wouldn't recommend any Earfun speaker to someone who isn't very tech savy. Every Earfun speaker sounds mediocre out of the box and they need EQing. I really like my UBOOM X, but I just can't recommend it to my mom. That's why my mom has a JBL Charge. Also, any of the stock (normal or OLUV's) EQs are way too focused on deep bass, which isn't the best with classical music. And it's not very portable I think, it's rather huge.

Charge has more bass. Flip is lighter more portable. One of my favorite speaker of all time is the JBL Clip 4. But the 5 is better because the power button doesn’t get hit by accident like the 4. Smaller speaker but it sounds great and extremely portable and great battery life.

This is what it's all about. The sweet spot. For me it's the charge, for others it's the flip or the xtreme, depending on what you're ok traveling with.

Not a tip for a specific speaker but check if the people you want to train with, if you're a group that is, already have speakers. In my local group people generally have JBL-speakers and being able to link multiple ones is superb. I have good experiences with both JBL Charge-models and UE Boom-models in general but mostly older models and I know JBL changed their protocol for linking units so be sure to do your research.

You mean a bluetooth speaker? The JBL lineup is relatively cheap, with the most value for your money a charge, second-hand they go for 50-75 euro, I believe they are new around 100 euro. It's weight is about 1kg (2,5lb), so ideal for a stroll in the woods!
