JBL Clip 5

TL;DR: Ultra-portable clip-on, loud for size, but distorts at high volume.

So, I bought the new GO 5 about a week ago. I've tried the GO 4. And I just bought the CLIP 5. Why? Because the new GO 5 is significantly underwhelming and I'm returning it. The GO 4 has punchier bass compared to the GO 5. You can feel it when powering it on. The signature JBL power on sound just rumbles more in the palm of your hand on a GO 4. The new GO 5 has significantly less bass. You have to play with the EQ to get some punch. The "JBL Signature" EQ setting is pretty thin, so you MUST adjust the EQ. The new lights are pretty cool though. Most people find them tacky. And I can understand. But they are fun. But the new GO 5 just isn't loud enough. It's probably 10% louder than the GO 4, but on its max volume, it just becomes thinny. I recommend one volume down (90% max). I need it to fill a room and still sound good when it's loud(est). So, I just came home with a CLIP 5 after playing with it at the store. It's SIGNIFCANTLY louder and more punchy. This thing can fill a big room and it would be good for outdoors, too. Hell, it can even be too overpowering. I can change between the GO 5 and CLIP 5 on the fly and it's immediately obvious which one is which. Now, the CLIP 5 doesn't win any beauty contest, but the carabiner is very useful. I have a few more bars I can slide up and down in the GO 5 EQ settings. It's more waterproof (IP68). It looks better and smaller. It's got Bluetooth 6 and fun lights. But in the sound department, the CLIP 5 blows it out of the water. Battery life on the GO 5 is 8 + 2 hours, while the CLIP 5 is 12 + 3 hours. Oh, by the way. The GO 5 is faster to power on and off. It's quicker to react when pressing buttons. Especially when powering off, the CLIP 5 is incredibly sluggish, but you really have to do side-by-side comparison.

Klipsch The One in my dining room. Marshall Acton III in my BR. I LOVE these. The sound, the look, everything. Several JBL clip 5s for the yard that I auracast. Love this feature for sound throughout the yard that’s not too loud (unless I want it to be). In my office, I have a super old Pioneer XWSMA4 that used early wireless tech (not Bluetooth). The wireless was always hit or miss with it but the sound is good so I (gasp) wire it to my iPhone when I’m using it. I can’t bear to get rid of it cuz it was such a stretch financially when I first got it. You all get me right? No one else does. I have a JBL flip just in case. I bring this on vacation or I’ll bring a clip or both. I also have two oontz angles that started me on this Bluetooth speaker journey. They still work great too. So I have those for when I want to have music and not worry about my speakers.

Thank you Reddit! This was my earlier post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Bluetooth_Speakers/s/24ZRfUxFJH As recommended - I bought 4 JBL clip speakers and spread them throughout the yard. Made a 12 hour playlist for the party of old timey favorites, crossed my fingers and launched. It worked perfectly! The aura cast is amazing, the clips have a nice crisp sound, and the charge showed no signs of weakness over the 8+ hours they were on. Highly recommend this option for anyone in a similar situation. Thanks again!

I have that same pretty little one from Ikea I used it for a year and it works quite well. But the volume is a little low, yesterday I bought a JBL Clip4 that sounds louder If it's to watch movies in bed or something like that It will be enough But if it's for walking around, it's a bit tight.

Gen 3 B&O is out now but, I'm still rocking the 2nd Gen for potable great sound, and it's good enough for under $140 on Amazon renewed, and I'm using my JBL Partybox Club 120 for my whole home theater setup in my Den connected to my JBL Clip 5, and a JBL Go 4 linked in Auracast and it works well all together!

I recently got the JBL Clip 5, noticeably better then my Klein AEPJS2. Depending on the site, the M12 comes out though. The AEPJS3 and M18 Bluetooth Jobsite Speaker stay at home, I definitely have a speaker collecting problem lol. If the whole gang is cool, the 2 speakers above can be linked with others.

I’ve got a JBL flip 7 and a clip 5. Both are amazing especially with the adjustable equalizer. You can tune them to the type of music playing. Clip 5 is amazing as an outdoor speaker going to the park or fishing off a bridge and clipping it on your pants belt loop is so convenient. The sound and volume from a compact speaker amazes me. For the clip 60$ on sale and 129$ for flip 5 you’ll have the best for both worlds.
