I agree I had them, what a disappointment. I sold them back for a JBL Flip 2 Essential. They are amazing and much louder than the Marshall. However, I tried the Marshall Acton III the other day and it sounds amazing but it does not have a battery.
Between these options, go with JBL. Harman Kardon and Marshall are better brands but that will require you to stretch your budget to 2x or 3x.
JBL Charge is a good pick, or the Flip series if you're more concerned about size, although they are both pretty compact. Soundcore Motion Boom is a good choice as well, however it's a bit more awkwardly shaped if you're trying to fit it in a bag.
I used in hikes it was sufficient however if you need extra voluma at outdoors and clarity you should go with flip series of jbl
JBL charge series is always a great buy, With a $150 budget. I have had my JBL charge 3 since 2018, only recently upgraded to the party box series, because I wanted something bigger and with way more bass. For a desk speaker the charge 4-5 is perfect, it has enough bass with EQ added. The flip and the other smaller ones that you can clip on, are going to be slightly quiet compared to the charge series. The charge series is the happy medium between good sound and portability.
Megablast weighs 2.4lbs (About the same weight as my Soundcore Motion plus. I have a .6lb Tribit Micro that does a nice job for its size but it does not have much bass outdoors. (It straps on to handlebars easily). A speaker like the JBLflip weighs about 1lb and has more bass than my little Tribit. The Earfun Uboom L is just a little bit heavier than a Flip but has better sound and costs less. At 1.4lbs it is a whole lb. less than the Megaboom. The small Uboom will sound better than the Tribit Micro or any of the extra small speakers so I would consider that option if you want something significantly smaller than a hyperboom that does not sacrifice your sound .
Have you considered using the JBL Flip series? They're compact, portable, and deliver surprisingly good sound quality for production
Im not really particular with the lows, mids, highs of a speaker but it’s pretty much decent compared to my previous JBLs (Flip and Go)
Go4 is very size specific for like when you want something light to throw on the belt loop and walk around, flip series would be what is being looked for
JBLs are go to for price and quality, flip series is good
