Audio is wholly subjective so it's whatever you prefer; I know people who are fully team JBL; I'm team Bose. Back in the day I purchased the first generation JBL Flip based on positive reviews, I disliked it so much I sold (flipped) it immediately. But they may have improved somewhat since then?
Me too. There's the Klipsch KMC series (the Groove Series are the same thing just newer). the Sony X5 and X7 and Jawbone Big Jambox and Jambox and Jambox Mini. Soundfreaq Soundkick and can't forget the JBL Flip 1 and Charge 1 and Pulse 1. The Pulse 1 is cool as it doesn't even need to change the colors (there is one) and when it's laid on its side it changes the lights to a Landscape position. Mainly all of them sound great. And guess what it's easy to replace the rechargeable batteries except the Pulse 1 (but even then it's not hard just have to disassemble them more.
Megablast weighs 2.4lbs (About the same weight as my Soundcore Motion plus. I have a .6lb Tribit Micro that does a nice job for its size but it does not have much bass outdoors. (It straps on to handlebars easily). A speaker like the JBLflip weighs about 1lb and has more bass than my little Tribit. The Earfun Uboom L is just a little bit heavier than a Flip but has better sound and costs less. At 1.4lbs it is a whole lb. less than the Megaboom. The small Uboom will sound better than the Tribit Micro or any of the extra small speakers so I would consider that option if you want something significantly smaller than a hyperboom that does not sacrifice your sound .
Tribit Micro is a great pocket speaker. Earfun Uboom X is a high value bass blaster. Bose soundlink flex is a nice middle ground speaker and the JBL flip & Charge have good bass for the size.
Tribit Stormbox Micro 2 decent for the size and weight. I use one on the bike sometimes. .6lbs. Earfun uboom L and the JBL Flip are good soda can size speakers. Both are under 2lbs. Of the speakers you have in mind I would go for the 2.1lb JB charge 6 over the heavy suckers. The Soundcore Moton Boom 2 Is a good & relatively lightweight camping speaker if you want bass. Not too fancy or expensive. 3.6lbs. That is the heaviest speaker I would want to hike with.
JBL Flip and Charge are solid speakers and not bad values "when you get them on sale". Xiaomi Outdoor is going for about $50 which puts it into Earfun UboomL territory. About the same weight as the Flip and UboomL too.
My 20 year old Tivoli PAL speaker did that. Just got sticky one day and looks like ass. (Still works). Some hand and suntan lotions have stuff in it that will break down the rubberized surface, try to keep that off your speakers and your bike grips. The JBL flips are fairly durable and I have not seen the rubber degrade. Extremely popular speaker so I bet they will hold up for five years which is about all you shojuld expect from a lithium battery. The cheaper BT speakers are the only ones that are all plastic. Most buttons are rubberized nowadays. For sound quality and value the Earfun Uboom X is hard to beat. I think you can get it for $120 from the Earfun Website with the 25% off coupon.
\# 1 choice would be noise canceling headphones. Those just murder the background noise and let you listen to music at a lower volume. I you want deep bass the Earfun Uboom x is still available on the "global" website and is compact powerhouse that many people think sounds better than any other sub 10lb boombox on the market. I can't think of a speaker under $200 that beats it in any category but "looks". (It is a boring plastic boombox, the Ford Taurus of speakers). If that is too big a JBL Flip or Earfun Uboom L will destroy that little sony.
Flips are nice but I would go for the Charge 6 if you do not have a mid sized portable. I have seen them go on sale for around $100, good bass indoors and not too big for transporting about. VIPOUTLET has Charge 5 for $71 on ebay. The Boombox is fairly big and heavy and expensive but what you need for dance and tailgate parties.
JBL Flip is great. Get one of the older models with the aux 1/8” input.
This is what I use as well and my boat has a stereo system. JBL Flip sounds great and doesn’t drain my batteries.
It seems that 10 out of 40,000,000 have had an issue. Watch out. :D buy a lotto ticket or a flip, or a plane ticket, same chances
Yeah, realistically that isn't going to happen, replacing 10 speakers with 1-3 is tough as it is, much less when those 10 speakers were designed for the space they are in and those 1-3 are jammed into an enclosure with the amp and battery in a single unit... I mean the closest you will get is a one of the big JBL Party Boxes which honestly isn't very portable at like 75 pounds and 45 inches tall, not to mention they run a grand or so. If you just want decent sound quality -AND- portability the JBL Flip, Charge, or even the Extreme series are pretty decent, but for high end quality you are going to be going well over the $500 mark... KEF, Bowers & Wilkens, Sonos, etc. And Bose... Yeah, I am not a huge fan... I would take the Infinity system in my Hyundai over it in a heartbeat for sound quality.
