How much people?
I'd say the minimum for a social is the PartyBox 100 (or its current version), on a tripod. If you leave it in the floor then less people will hear it.
If your social is a dozen people, just take a few small JBLs (Flip or Charge), pair them and place them around the area you want to play.
50W will do a small childrens garden party, 100W minimum for an adult garden party, preferably more. I've got a JBL party box 100W, and it's just about loud enough, in my opinion. I'm thinking of getting another so I can split them up and point them in to the garden in stereo for a better sound stage and overall coverage.
JBL partybox encore, but better the partybox 100 or any of the successors like 110. (you could try to get a used partybox 100 series, also an older model) . The 1XX weighs about 20 pounds but it has a lot of volume and is enough to have an outdoor dance party

I’d look into a JBL partybox. I have 2 of the 100s and they are great. We are getting close to the time of year that people liquidate them. ~200-250 a piece cheaper if you can still find a 100 but they are pretty scarce.
