Hello good people. My Jbl Xtreme finally died and I've been looking for a nice lil BT speaker for a bit and decided on the Jbl Charge 6. Now, don't get me wrong, it's a great speaker for what it is, but... I find it a little lacking. I took a leap of faith on buying a mono speaker and, it's not that it's bad, but I just want a stereo speaker. I also think that the bass, albeit there and not at all bad, is also just lacking a bit. Much better when the speaker is in a corner though! I think the Charge 6 is great for what it is and what it can do, but I'm looking for something a bit *more*. Something between a Jbl Charge 6 and the (modern) Xtreme maybe. I don't have much experience with other BT speaker brands, but I'm absolutely open to other brands. One thing I don't want is cheap(er) brands that try to offer the same as other brands, but at a cheaper price. They always come with caveats. What'd I'd like; * Something in size between the Charge 6 and Xtreme * Something with a bit more bass than the Charge 6. Around 20-30% more would be fine, I think? I listen to a lot of different music, but I'd rather tune down the bass in an EQ when listening to something like metal or rock VS trance/edm, than just not have the bass. * I'd like it to be a stereo speaker. That will mean it's bigger and more expensive, but that is fine by me. If it isn't really bigger than the Xtreme then that's fine. * I love the battery life of the Charge 6. It really does last a long time, probably it's best quality. I take speakers to festivals and events, which means going days or a week+ with no power. I am well aware that a bigger and more powerful speaker will not last the (advertised) 28h that the Charge 6 would, but something that doesn't die after like 8 hours would be great. * Hopefully it's in the "up to 400USD" range. I live in northern Europe though, so availability varies. Please no brands only sold in America. I do not want to import. Sorry for the wall of text, but I hope someone has some good recommendations. Thank you!
I'm absolutely considering the xtreme 4. I've just never used other brands of BT speakers, so I thought I'd at least ask. I would also prefer having 1 speaker, even if it's a bit big, instead of 2 smaller ones for stereo.
I was considering the link max as it was on sale here a couple of weeks ago. After a bit of research online, it seemed like the bass was the weak point of the speaker? Most comments on reddit and other forums, and comments on blog posts, said to look for other speakers/brands for fuller and louder bass. The speaker supposedly sounds great, and knowing bose it probably does, but this wasn't 1 or 2 comments...
Oh, yeah, for sure, but if I want to pack it in a suit case, a hiking backpack (festivals) or regular backpack (events) then it suddenly takes more space than I think I want my speaker to. It also weighs... Quite a bit, and I'm looking to take it with me on planes š
I've seen a lot of people praise this speaker, but I've seen just as many people say that "you get what you pay for". It costs basically the same as the Charge 6. I'm not sure that it could compete with the Xtreme, and the internet seems to think the same. Haven't tried it tho, so who knows!
Oh yeah, I already did that once already haha. It just one day started crackling and stuff, then there was a pop and it was dead. It lasted me more than 10 years. It's time for a new one. Right now I'm leaning towards just getting a new xtreme 4.
I went from a JBL Xtreme 1 to a Tribit Stormbox Blast v1 and couldnāt be happier.
Iāve owned JBL Charge and Xtreme, and the Stormbox Blast blows them away. Bigger, heavier, but the sound is way more impactful and the battery life is immense.
I am trying to recommend a bluetooth speaker to a friend who was insisting on purchasing a refurb charge 6 for $130. I have personally went from owning a JBL Charge 2+, JBL Charge 3, and JBL Xtreme Gen 1 (Xtreme still working fine after 10 years). I am not against recommending a charge but from previous experience with the older gens, they personally don't get as loud as I would like (cannot give an opinion on new versions). Is there a brand and model now in this gen that can get as loud as an Xtreme, still have good sound quality, and be portable under <$150 USD?
My jjbl extreme 3 is going strong for 3 years+
I hated the sound of it and returned mine. Sounds very tame without the spatial audio on. When it's on the speaker has incredible clarity and a super wide sound stage but it's also very artifical and really not pleasing to listen to. Low end sucks too. I tested it alongside an Xtreme 4 and thought the Xtreme was far better
the xtreme 4 seems good but you can get a refurbished boombox 3 and have 1 £ left
