I ordered a gold one to replace a Klipsh Nashville I'm returning. Nashville fell short with the mids and clarity. Guitars get masked in the mix with metal. No playback controls and too girthy to grab. The party mode is loud but that's it. At twice the price, Kef better deliver.
It's bittersweet. The build quality and battery life is amazing. I love the shape, it stands easily. The sound is bassy and muddy over wireless (aptx) making it hard to understand speech and hear guitars clearly in a mix. It reminds me of the Technics AZ80 that I hated. So far I've cut out all the bass with system EQ and it's ok. The USB C mode outputs very quietly from a Moto razr, sounds great wired from a Mac. It is not worth the money on sound alone. It has a delay regardless of connection mode. The app is straight booty and could use Parametric EQ and UI wireless pairing. Auracast does not work. I did not try dual pairing, I'm not paying for a second one. I'm waiting on a DAP with PEQ to hopefully have a good portable source for it. If it doesn't fix it, I'll be returning the speaker.
I gave mine another shot last night and I started to enjoy them a lot more. We messed with the EQ settings and found one that we liked, and having the L / R channel paired made a big difference too. I think I'll keep mine.
I've had mine for 5 years and still works great,
My biggest complaint is that it will move around when playing. Not loads of bass here, but the drivers move so much that it likes to crawl around.
Doesn’t matter the surface, it crawls. Still love it though.
I’ve had it for a few years now. No chance at customer support. Just played it yesterday. Not a slick surface it walked out about an inch playing some Megadeth, not even bass heavy stuff. It’s just what it does. The rubber feet just aren’t very grabby. 🤷♂️
Just got it today. I’m a little underwhelmed. I’ll give it a day. So far I still believe JBL does a better job.
It’s actually not bad for a small speaker. Produces good sound and bass at lower volume levels. I still think that for the price, you’re better off with a JBL or other proven name brands. JBL is just louder and produces good bass. Just my opinion. I hope it helps.
Good review! Here in Canada it can be found for $148 or less on sale and for that price it's fantastic! I have one I also have a beosound A1 gen 3 and a brane audio. One of the perks of working at an electronic store! But you definitely nailed the review!
Yeah it will be going straight back if it doesn’t stand up well against my JBL Charge 3.
So it just arrived. Initial thoughts - really not good at all. Sounds very tinny and restricted in comparison to the JBL. I’m hoping it’s just because it’s freezing cold having just arrived out of the couriers van. I’ll leave it playing for several hours and then really test it next to the JBL. But it feels very monotone and unexciting so far. Shame as actually it looks much more beautiful in person than in the pictures - I wasn’t a big fan of the look but it’s easily considerably nicer looking than the JBL.
It’s terrible. Tinny, restricted, feels like most of the base gets caught inside the speaker. I thought perhaps it’s because I focus on electronic music and maybe it would sound better with vocals but nope - my JBL Charge 3 is vastly superior. It’s quite cool with the new Bluetooth as you can connect to multiple speakers at the same time so I could easily play the same song and switch between the two - this made the KEF’s look really embarrassing. I’ll be fascinated to see the video reviews but I think this is going to get really slated. Mine will be heading back to KEF on Monday. As I mentioned in another post, it’s a shame as actually the device itself is beautiful and looks way better in person than in the images on the website.
