I have the Bose soundlink max and had the Middleton, the Bose sounds a lot cleaner and I think looks more modern and elegant. Don’t listen to those that say what about X speaker or X speaker sounds better than you find out that X speaker is better because it’s just gigantic (jbl boombox or Union X).

I also have a Marshall Middleton (which appears to be $209 on Amazon). It has pretty good sound. The bass rolls off pretty substantially at a certain point. I would still pick the Move 2 over it though. That being said, if you’re really looking to stay in your lower budget, the Middleton is a good choice.

I'd go with the Sony ULT 7 for a large speaker, and for a smaller speaker that also produces all frequencies, I'd choose the Marshall Middleton, because of the stereo separation which is superb in my opinion.

I have the Middleton by Marshall and that thing is amazing! It's loud has good base. The only thing I hate is the control. But you can control it through your phone.

From the RTINGS data, the major differences are: \- The Bose sounds better at higher volumes(less compression) and has 2x the battery life. \- The Marshall has much better soundstage The Bose also has slightly more accurate frequency response, but it's close. Soundstage and appearance/branding are really the only selling points of the Marshall. If those aren't important to you, you'd probably be better off with almost any other speaker in the price range. You could also get a UE EpicBoom which gives you the best of both worlds. For me, I'm happy to trade some volume and battery life for improved soundstage, so I have a Marshall(found a good deal locally).

Got the Middleton for my buddy who loves his music.....had a little play with it before gifting it to him and was blown away with the sound, tried all kinds of music ranging from metal, hip hop, electronic and the bass was impressive given the size of the speaker! No experience with the Bose but the marshall blew me away. I usually listen to music through big kef floor standing speakers and couldn't believe the clarity and volume from it 🤘

Hi all, so I played with a friend's mixstream pro and loved it, I just needed someone to show me the ropes, did hours of research and pretty sure I'm getting the FLX4. I'm looking at speakers now, there are very few portable speakers with AUX (UGHGGG) # For context playing little house parties, and outdoor events like camping with friends I currently have a UE boom 2 that has an aux but the sound quality is very meh, it's muddy # I'm looking at * Marshall Middleton (seems to have very little latency) * Bose Soundlink Revolve * Audio TEchnica AT-SP65XBT these 2 are in completely different price brackets, they are around the same size, weight though - and that's pretty much the max weight I'm willing to go. 4-5lbs is much heavier than I usually have for my speakers as I go to festivals where we gotta carry a bunch of gear to and from. Wanted to get a JBL to be on my friend's ecosystem to pair but it seems the XTreme would be the only one with AUX but Marshall Middleton may be better then? has bass/treble EQ too I rather something that I can play with at home that sounds good, at small parties too I know there is the Minirig that has zero latency but then you gotta buy a few to make examples a 2.1, I don't want to deal with all that. This is already a few more items I need to have on FLX4 VS a standalone Mixstream Pro (though for parties I'd need an external speaker anyway) so I really want something simple that's pretty darn good and easy to transport and won't cost more. Any advice? I couldn't see anything comparing speakers with that Audio Technica for example thanks!! UPDATE: bought the Marshall Middleon, I'm in love it's truly amazing. Sound is nice, missing a little bit of mids but honestly , very good. Very clear. Well designed, though I'm iffy about the no cover USB-C and aux in the back.

please come back to report! For the Marshall Middleton, it says the latency is like 30ms on bluetooth so I imagine for wired it will be even less [https://www.rtings.com/speaker/tests/connectivity/bluetooth#test\_4604](https://www.rtings.com/speaker/tests/connectivity/bluetooth#test_4604)

Still Middleton. At my sisters she had a big speaker carry on style with an aux jack, from a Costco, I used that when I was over

You can't get the same SPL, but there are much smaller speakers with the same bass extension. I don't like the boomy overemphasis of bass of the boombox2 too much, but i understand it sounds fun for a lot of music. But if Bass is what you are looking for i'd suggest to have a look at the Marshall lineup. They have a preference for bassy sound and have a few models that are considerably smaller than the Boombox2. They have better bass in every segment, but as bass uses more power than mids and treble, most marshall speakers have worse battery life than corresponding JBLs. For example the Middleton has about the same bass extension as the JBL boombox2, but is just a third of the size. Of course you trade in Max SPL for that nice range, as there ain't no free lunch. The problem with smaller drivers is that they are less efficient, so they need more power for the same SPL or just deliver considerably less SPL. Both is the case with the Middleton. So you trade in less SPL and less battery life, but you get a similar sound quality in about one third the size. Plus arguably the Middleton looks nicer and more mature even though both are ofc mostly plastic and rubber. And as with all Marshalls, the stereo soundstage is fantastic, better than any of the JBLs. I also like the even smaller emberton, but once you go smaller the bass extension is a lot lesser with just 68hz instead of the 49hz that the middleton and boombox2 are achieving.

Marshall Middleton first gen. It’s a heavy beast but has the best balance. JBL has the best software but the sound profile is fatiguing. The ULT 3 is boomy compared to the better balanced ULT 1 and excellent ULT 7. Emberton 2 has great vocal clarity but not much bass. Middleton corrects that shortcoming. It’ll work well with what you listen to.

Instead of focusing on lossless, maybe look at speakers that have an aux input, so you can have the benefit of something portable, but bypass connecting over Bluetooth. Imo, just getting something that checks my boxes without being crazy expensive was hard enough. I looked into a few Bluetooth speakers with aux inputs myself last week and narrowed it down to the JBL Boombox 3, Bose SoundLink Max and Marshall Middleton. I went with the cheapest, the Middleton. But I'm happy with it so I can use the aux input to connect it to my steam deck or my portable projector out on my back patio. Of course, you can connect a dap, switch, or whatever source that uses a basic 3.5 mm connector. (Had I not been in a hurry, I may have waited for the new Bose SoundLink but I'm okay with the trade-off).

Marshall middleton is decent, but it reduces a LOT of bass at high volumes. Bose soundlink max has more definition to it's sound, and has more thump.

I like the Marshall Middleton. Speakers on all 4 sides gives it a kind of surround sound, pairs with itself and other Marshall models. Happen to like the thick look. Dam near indestructible. Also, quite a bit bigger but the Jbl boombox 3 is a great choice imo. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=PBZvukWGJk0&pp=ygUiUG9zaXRpdmUgbWFyc2hhbGwgbWlkZGxldG9uIHJldmlldw%3D%3D
