MINIRIG mini 2 is a fair bit larger (3.4”x3.4”x2.1”) but performs incredibly for its size

Minirig Mini. I use it way more than my Minirig 4’s or my JBL Charge 3’s. The sound is clear for podcasts etc, but with good balanced bass for music.. it’s super portable and light, sturdy as hell (all metal), only costs £99.

If I had to keep one, it would be my minirig by a mile. OB-4 sounds nice, but the shape/design of it is at odds with its use case.. exposed speaker with no grill, protruding handle, and delicate knob means I can't throw it in my backpack. Unnecessarily tall and easily topples over, and even when you use the stand/handle thing and put it on its side, it still feels awkward to use the buttons and doesn't feel very sturdy. I'm paranoid about this thing being damaged because it feels like it was designed as a flower to be looked at, not a tool with a job. Minirigs are absolute tanks. Take it to the shower, chuck it in a bag/backpack, very sturdy on a desk. Don't let anyone fool you, the sound quality is at least as good as the OB-4, and it has more I/O than the OB-4 if you want a companion for other portable music gear. The app sucks, that's my only complaint. Coolest part of the OB-4 for me was the radio connecting to my OP-1, but you have to be (literally) 6 inches away from the thing for it to be usable, so I'd rather use a cable.. like I can with a minirig.. and if I have an OP-1 and minirig together, the looper and radio functions don't give me anything I don't already have.

Same. After listening to Oluv’s reviews for a while and after purchasing 2 x original Minirig minis and 2 x subs, I spend my time listening to music instead of listening to reviews of speakers I was never going to purchase. Many thanks for your honest reviews Oluv. I doubt I would have discovered Minirigs without your hard work. FYI I generally use the MR cable to run a single sub and 2 minis wired to an old AirPort Express for “wireless” airplay. It works for me.

There are stereo portable speakers. But you will not get much of a stereo effect if the speaker has drive units closer together than your body width as near field e.g. behind a laptop screen. There are small speakers e.g. Minirig 2 that when paired give a good stereo field. I use a Beosound Level with a laptop but they sound a great deal better as a pair than on their own. It fits into the laptop sleeve of a backpack but even second hand too expensive to carry around.

My MINIRIG 2 is now ten years old and still works just as well as it did on day one. Absolute tanks and sound great.

Roland “mobile cube” is what I use. It’s DIFFERENT to the other cubes. It’s easy to get them all mixed up. It’s smaller. But if you need REALLY small then the only thing that sounds good is a “Minirig Mini 2” and that blows your budget. You’re in a tough spot. Good luck.

Ha! I’ll stick to my Minirig2 then. I usually hang it to the back of my camper and I can walk a good 20 feet before it starts losing the connection to my phone.
